  1. As the Orange is voiced to have a "vintagey tubey" sound I'd recommend one of the barefaced "XXX10" cabs. I have the two10 and it sounds great if you're into that old school sound (which I am) and plenty loud.
  2. Doubly out - TE Elf
  3. After I changed the pickup on my sandberg I find the treble control is just too much after about 6/7!, it’s like it’s fizzles out and distorts. Bass control works fine tho.
  4. Is this item still for sale? would you consider shipping to Ireland? totally understand if its too much hassle because of *B*
  5. It was “fine” before but a little bit sterile sounding . Now it’s an aggressive beast ! Loads of mid range attack and not scooped at all (which I’m really happy about) very jean-jacques ! ive a precision bass also and I wouldn’t compare it to that either . It’s like a souped up p bass .
  6. Swapped out the stock ‘big pole’ sandberg pickup for a Lollar PB 90. A good upgrade IMO.
  7. Just ordered a replacement Lollar PBass /90 pickup for my 12yr old Sandy California. Watch this space.
  8. I hear great things about JFet transistors being 'very close' to valves and in use by Orange to make some great solid state guitar amps. Are these in use in the bass world ?
  9. The HB100 is a tidy enough valve head, also check Pure tone amps. https://www.facebook.com/PureToneAmps
  10. I remember genz Benz brought out the focus series of budget conscious bass cabs and they were both great sounding, light and ridiculously cheap. Yes occasionally you can get great bargains.
  11. My one just died one day, piece of garbage
  12. So, no Russian valves anymore 🤔, will this impact the world of tube sound ?
  13. My first bass amp was a torque 50W combo, I think it was terrible as well
  14. and this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PC3KCQbAf70
  15. This is a great tune to practice with IMO
  16. Not a "terrible" amp but the Ampeg Protaflex PF350 was a wimp.
  17. Not gigging much lately and need some songs to practice with. Id describe myself as 'intermediate' level. Any suggestions ?
  18. Another Carlsbro 90 bass amp owner here, I blew the driver on it. it had no balls at all.
  19. 12 years separate these acquisitions. The colour scheme is purely coincidental, they just happened to be available in that colour on offer in 2 separate German outlets 🤷‍♂️
  20. Cool, Its a fliptop version of the little bastard ?
  21. I recently put a set of XL chromes on a fender player P bass. Feel stupid that I haven't done this years ago. Sound gorgeous through my little bastard. I'd still use rounds with my usual band though for the zing.
  22. These always seemed a little but awkward looking to me. I wouldn't like to have a valve head perched on top of it. Apart from having the top speaker closer to your ears I don't see the big advantage of it over say a 4 x 10, 2 x 10 or 1 x 15 in terms of practicality
  23. Instead of starting a new thread on this item Id like to chime in with my own Query. I currently own a Sandberg VS and a Fender Precision Player. The Sandberg has delano pickups with those big pole pieces and a 2 band glockenklang preamp while the fender has the standard fender stock ones with the usual passive set up. I was happy with the Sandberg up to the point where I bought the fender, now I think the sound from the Sandberg seems a but too scooped and clean sounding and the fender seems to have a lot more classic P bass character. I think the problem with the Sandberg might be those pickups. Would anyone have any recommendations for an old school aggressive sounding pickup with plenty of midrange punch
  24. Id love to hear reviews on their passive VS (P bass) and passive TT (Jazz). I've the active VS and I think if I was to go again Id go passive.
