1. Thomastik Jazz Flats are known for their low tension and I can confirm that. Oh, and their tone gets better and better progressively.
2. I would go with unlined with side dots.
3. I emailed Pyramid and they responded early in a Monday morning! However, it seems like their English is worse than mine
4. I got a set of Pyramid tapewood nylons for my jazz fretless and it's really LONG. The thing is that I've been told that cutting nylons may result in unwinding of the strings. Does anyone has experience with this?
5. That's great! I'd love to have access to the whole database.
6. Not exactly what the OP asked but I recently asked a very experienced player how to fill the sonic space when the guitarist soloes in a band without a drummer. He said that I should follow the movement of the guitar player in higher registers. Leaving intervals greater than one and a half octave or so creates a sonic void that makes the overall thing sound thin.
7. So many. Al Green, Peter Gabriel, E Street Band, Donny Hathaway, Steely Dan to name a few. Since it's a fantasy, I take it as I have the ability to support these gigs.
8. Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock as contemporary western musicians
9. Yes, that too. Singer has to be well warmed up for the challenging numbers, but perhaps at the latter stages of the show, their voice may present signs of fatigue.
10. We used to start the show with a fast/catchy song or with a more atmospheric song followed with a fast/catchy one. Things slowed down at the second part of the first set, but we always took care to make it more intense just before the break. For me, the second set has to start with a "party message". But again, variety is the key. A dancing medley in the middle of the second set is a safe bet.
11. This. Art is not supposed to be pretty every single time.
12. Apologies if it has been mentioned before. Is it just me or topic tags deliver no results? They don't even show the initial topic.
13. I quit a few months ago because we were on different pages. The guitarist and I wanted to be a "dual band", a function band band in hotel lounges and bars, and an originals band in local scene bars. The singer had no desire to work in a function band, but wasn't very convincing about willing to prepar original material at home too. The drummer said he would follow what the band decides but his networking skills are zero. Besides he and the guitarist had a personal issue going on. Additionally, drummer and singer weren't doing their homework properly lately. As it was a "democratic" band and I had no right to fire anybody, I decided to quit. The band broke in a couple days. Now, the guitarist and I run a semi -acoustic project. tl; dr People without similar goals or willing to put effort
14. Nothing new to mention +1 for Reaper
15. I have a set of these on my MIJ Jazz. They are human cancelling but also have a low output. edit: "human" cancelling, damn you autocorrection
16. Nice one! I knew that bubinga5 was the OP before I saw it
17.
I played nothing but fretless bass for over 4 months. But when I picked up a fretted bass after all that time if felt horrible and clumsy. So since then I've started swapped back and forth a lot more so both fretted and fretless feel comfortable.
I had the same experience. After several weeks of playing my fretless exclusively (preparing myself for a semi-acoustic project), I just hated it when I picked up my fretted again. But then I decided to study some Latin basslines which are for me impossible to play on the fretless. Now I swap constantly and both feel natural.
18.
I went on a spree of trying all sorts of different cabinets and the one I ended up choosing was something I did not expect in the slightest. I tried out a load of Barefaced, Schroeder, EA, EBS etc.. I ended up going for a TC Electronics of some description that I used regularly from a rehearsal studio I go to all the time. A TC Electronics BC2x12, if I recall correctly. Has anyone else had any surprising buys that turned out absolute trumps for them?
I was planning to save money for a Barefaced to replace my TC E BC212
19. I have no feedback l'm afraid. I would consider booking an extra seat for my bass.
20. I got tempted and order one last week. I was surprised to see that the inner package is a Rotosound promo. Didn't test the strings yet.
21.
Good to see Pete Trewavas on there. Love a bit of Marillion.
we're in this together sir. fantastic pic
22.
I've just got one of these https://www.thomann....0eee90a7eca25ae Excellent quality, and an absolute steal.
Agree. Great gigbag for the money, however I plan to upgrade the back straps somehow
23.
Enjoyed that, never really taken the time to check out Meshell. Any album recommendations of hers?
Peace Beyond Passion.
