Wasn't aware I was being stalked via eBay! Pretty sure I sold one my 4 string streamers for 1250 but not sure what that has to do with this. 4 stringers are more in demand so you can ask more for them. Also I was advertising mine internationally, with the associated risks, so again you can ask for more money.

To be fair it's a charity shop listing it
-
There is nothing wrong with it just over priced. It's a cracking bass but really 1000-1200 is the most I would expect anyone to pay. It probably keeps getting relisted when eBay have their promotional £1 selling fee weekends..

Ok but what about getting yourself a decent 10 string bass...

Carl Thompson With Wal pick ups?
dyerseve replied to alembic1989's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
A couple of years ago is not quite 1980 when this bass was built. Things could have been very different 30+ years ago and besides, Carl Thompson is no ordinary luthier... -
Been on the bay for quite a while so may be that a cheeky offer could secure it...
-
And yet the listing describes it as one of the best examples in the world! God only knows what a bad one would look like...
-
Seems like it's very well built and got some very nice hardware! A Gotoh bridge no less! Be surprised if this fufnt cone out of Japan but I am no expert.

Thanks MATE! 🙄 To be honest I actually prefer the look and feel of the vintage Warwicks (84-90) to the modern ones The current Masterbuilt range have some beautiful touches like the wooden cavity covers and tuners but the cost is a bit rough when you can score a vintage Warwick for about a third of that cost!

What an absolute beauty mate! Some really interesting grain on the body. I now have serious GAS!!!

I don't think Russ has a 10 string bass yet.... @binkybass have you got room on that enormous sofa for one of these??? As you've just sold a bass I'm sure your missus won't notice this one seeking in....

I feel it would have been helpful to yourself if you had watched the video with the sound turned on as Marco does give an excellent commentary on what he is doing and why is going it and the compromises he is making for the sake of making a quick but informative example of his fret polishing method.😉 to be fair I am still not converted by Marco's video to the method he uses. I still prefer the wire wool method. I guess I am just a creature of habit - or just lazy lol.

Thanks Marco. Here is what I use: https://www.cromwell.co.uk/shop/abrasives/hand-finishing-abrasives/03809-soft-back-sponge-115x140x5mm-fine-pack-of-10/p/MMM2016018M

no worries mate, its all good. Did you see my earlier question about the 3M sanding pads you use? Just wanted to know if they are thin or thick as I use some thin ones which are outstanding especially for Warwicks!

I think it might just be the light that is fooling you in to thinking the finish is shiny. I always try to get the bright sunlight light reflecting off the basses when photographing them to highlight the wood grain. Here is the latest one I finished:

What on earth possessed you to sell it??? Would love to see some pics if you can find them. One of my favourite bass players uses a 5 string JD Thumb from the same era but his has the Warwick 3D bridge rather than the Schaller one as pictured on that 4 string. The tone of those early Thumbs is to die for!

Thanks mate. Unfortunately no I have always steered away from the coloured Warwicks as I prefer the natural colour of the wood so I'm unable to help. I'm sure Marco or another member here may be able to help or failing that if you email Warwick or post a thread on the Warwick website I'm sure you will get the details you need.

Thanks. I'm not a pro like yourself so I was really proud of the Thumb re finish but they all were fun to work on in their own way. Btw, that shot of the frets above was just to give you an idea of how good they can look just using the wire wool I mentioned earlier. I'm not sure there is such a thing as a Thumb NT with a broadneck unless it is a custom option. I always wanted one of them myself as I love the broadneck 1990 Streamer Stage 1 that I have. I also refinished the Stage 1 so here's a quick pic

so here some pics of some 'wicks that have passed through my door in the last couple of years and which I have refinished

Glad you liked it. That is a song by one of my fav bands and so I was just interested in watching him do a regular cover of the song but then he just took it to another level and made it his own! Combine his incredible playing and the tone from the DB Thumb and you're in heaven! Mate your Infinity is absolutely stunning just the way it is! You just need to adjust to it fully and then the GAS will slowly subside... That s what I keep telling myself lol

Hello again and thank you for the info. I have used Danish oil myself in a similar process to how you use Teak oil, to refinish a bass before and loved the result - see here: But for Warwicks and because I am all about the detail i make sure i always use the Warwick wax to refinish the body and neck. I had to try a few different methods to make sure it was being applied melted as they do in the factory but now I am happy I am getting the best results and will post a few pics shortly. Your tip on the pickups is very interesting, I have never heard of this before and I will be sure to try it next time thank you! I don't have anywhere inside to work on my guitars other than my kitchen so any sanding has to wait until nicer weather so I can do it in my garden lol. Which 3M sanding blocks to you use? I found some 3M sanding pads(very thin blocks) recently and they are incredible! So much better than sandpaper especially for curvy and contoured bodies like Warwicks!!!
