1. I just found that AI is so different to other heads. It depends how much you like it. I've just learnt to live with it for bass guitar. With an active bass it's pretty good.
2. I think the best two options are AI Clarus and EA doubler. Its likely that you won't like the micro if you didn't like the doubler as they are pretty much the same without DB features. What did you think of its 'flat' sound? I used a mark bass 12" combo provided by a club a lot and really liked it as a doubling amp. I still prefer AI or EA doubler for upright over any other amp. That said I prefer mark bass for electric. ....I'm not much help! :-) Good luck Clarky!
3.
Is that Kai that worked for Turner violins? He was a nice guy!
Yeh he's set up on his own.
4. Christian Mcbride Big Band, Good feeling & his duo recording Conversations with Christian. Can't get enough of his playing at the moment. Outragous.
5. I would take it to Kai Dase http://kaidaseviolins.com/ He's a great luthier and the nearest Double bass expert to you. You won't get an accurate estimate by pictures alone. I agree with Jake that it will be expensive. It needs a lot of work, but the price will depend on how you go about the repairs (do you remove the top etc) I think it will cost a fair amount. Bear in mind that apart from the repair work you will need it set up, new strings, possible new bridge, nut, soundpost etc.... It looks plywood to me. Could be a nice bass. Good luck getting it sorted.
6.
it looks like the scale might be other wood the ebony. i'll say because my 1950 Dbass made in URSS has the same color tone.
Yeh it looks more like a rosewood board, but again hard to tell from pics.
7.
Looks like the tuners have been replaced from the photo
Well spotted Keith. The outline and screw holes are still visible from the old machines brass(?) plate. Also D machine doesn't appear to be a good fit, but it's hard to tell from this angle.
8. Very nice strings. I've never seen them in the UK.
9. Great deal! Good luck with your sale.
10.
Read the dots but trust your ears.
Great advice Bilbo.
11. Nice feel & arrangement. Great work Jake :-)
12.
Compared to a DB playing an EUB is like kissing your sister!
Quote of the month goes to bassace :-)
13. I was working on a cruise ship and the classical pianist did 5 X 45 minute recitals from memory over 3 weeks. it was jaw dropping to watch knowing how much other material he had ready to play. Not background either. Proper recital. Rock hard classical sonatas. No sheet music. 5 x 45 mins! Gulp.
14. Go on! Just try it! Everyone else is! :-)
15.
it just feels right. get one
+1 :-)
16. It's outragous. Condition is amazing!
17. Love it! Where can I get one :-)
18. Wow you don't often see these for sale. I've played Keiths (now Clarky's) and loved it. Great basses, sound really good up close.
19. It's such a personal choice. Either is fine. I prefer 5 as it helps with sight reading, but you can always play those parts up the octave. However five strings always seems strange at first when you are used to four. For me I'm now most comfortable on my bass (5er). Use whatever you feel most able to express yourself. But... I do think that it helps to stick to one and not keep changing. I really value the consistency on a gig as I find new gear distracting. Good luck
20. I agree with bassace and jake. Shame the pictures are not better, but I think it looks like its worth considering.
21. If you do end up with a month off it will be a chance to recharge your bass playing. You will come back really fresh & hungry for it!
22.
he also seems to have a thing about a 2004 Ford Focus!
Yeh I was a amused by that. :-)
23. Great job Alex. Some really nice phrases.
24. Good work. Nice and chilled for this Sunday morning :-)
