1. There are lots of options for powering pedals. What you need to know is the polarity and the voltage. Most pedals have the DC input marked with a symbol that tells you what this is, but some dont so the only way you can be sure is to get their supply. That is usually marked so once you have that, if you have enough pedals to justify it, you can get a power supply to do the lot.
2.
The Ampeg 8x10 design works so well because each pair of 10 inch speakers is in its own sealed space i.e. 4 lots of 2x10's. If you remove the grille you will see these 'compartments'. I've always felt that this had a lot to do with why they sound so good, especially as the speakers themselves are nothing special-for some reason it just works when you get 8 of them in that cabinet! So maybe not quite the same as stacking 2 cabinets with 4x10's in?
Thats why I said it depends on the cabs. Some Ampeg 4x10's are built the same way as the 8x10's. Not all 8x10's are built like Ampegs.
3. Look good. Ampeg did a similar amp with 4 presets a few years ago but nobody bought them. The LED's on the input volume worked as a VU meter when you were playing as well. Did not have all the other bits mind.
4.
Good move on not touching the black Spitfire! Hmm... you have gone for the colour / neck scheme I was talking about with Bernie only two days ago! Did you see the two tone silver bridges that he has got. They look the business and would look fantastic on a white bass... I'm looking forward to seeing that one. Hell, I'm looking forward to seeing them all.
No did not see the 2 tone bridges. I will probably go for the lightweight Hipshot A and thru body stringing. I dont think you need the high mass bridge with string thru. Was thinking black hardware but not so sure now I have thought about it a bit more.
Yeah, the single coils certainly offer a different sound to the humbuckers... I know you aren't a slap guy but they really perform. The lowfi option on the switch is a nice option. Whether I'll stick with it... well, I've got a few gigs to try it out on first so we'll see!
Just thinking of different sound options but as I cant slap wont slap I might be better off sticking with the buckers. Its gonna have a Rumour curcuit, the black one is the old circuit, and having frets its gonna sound different as well. Bernie is going to try and find a very light alder body instead of swamp ash.
5.
My rig used to consist of a 1x15 and 4x10.After reading the threads that lemmywinks mentioned i tried 2 4x10's and the results were very good indeed.I get a lot more clarity at the bottom end and very nice midrange bark using the 2 410's.Just for interests sake would running 2x 410's be the same as 1 8x10 ?? It's just got me thinking is all.
It obviously depends on the cabs but I have always thought of 2 4x10's as an 8x10 in installments Glad someone has benefitted from me banging on about mixing cabs
6. Tee's are on order. Free with bass if you ask I expect. Yes I preferred the original Macassa Ebony board and thats what I am having on the new one.
7. Yes. USA made basses that go for a lot less than equivalent vintage Fender and Gibson unfortunately. There have been a few come up so it might be worth doing a search on "For Sale" to see what they went for.
8. You can probably buy a Beringher one for less than you spent on bits but most A/B/Y boxes are a lot more than that. Some are a lot prettier as well.
9. Spent a while laying out fingerboards and painted bodies (sounds dirty). We both decided the black one played and sounded too good to f*** about fretting it so I am keeping it fretless and have ordered another fretted Spitfire. Its gonna be burnt white (like old english white on old jags) with an ebony FB. It was that or sunburst and lizard wood but I think the other combination looked better. Thinking about single coils though after what Russ has been saying. Had a look at the fingerboard debate and I prefer the original, sorry. And finally, Bernie has some fat bastard tee's on order.
10.
Ditto. I am a Beck vigin, which is a surprise really considering my age and musical influences over the years. I thought he was amazing. Ive never seen so much feel in a player. Not overawed by the bass player. All that great gear didn't sound very clever IMO. I came to the conclusion that the dirty old sod must be shagging her. :brow:
Dirty lucky old sod
11. Somebody posted a page from International Musician dated late seventies with loads of prices for gear. An SM58 actually cost more then than it does now!
12. And whats more, he didn't do Hi Ho Silver Lining. Gutted! Tal still looks about 12, maybe thats cos she looks like the cover of Blind Faith. How does she play with those tiny hands?

14. What he said. Just f*** about and find out what sounds you like and what sounds you dont like, preferably at band practice not at home. You can get a double whammy between 700 and 800 hz
15.
After waiting for this long I am certain that I will never want to send her home to you! How come you get down to Bernie's so much - I have been twice as it is a fair old trip for me. I would like to have gone down recently to sort out the fingerboard stuff but just didn't have the time. BTW attached a pic of the new fingerboard for others to see as I know you have seen it already. Come to think of it you have seen more of my bass then I ever have!
Whats the wood?
16. He should be able to get something nice for that sort of money. Dont assume that a 4x10/1x15 will sound better than 2x4x10 or 2x1x15 though.
17. Seems to be a glut of these for sale at the moment. Still loving mine.

23. Thats the point. Normally web sites dont specify the frequency, nor often the full citation of 1 watt at 1 metre, they just say sensitivity 100dB; Frequency Response 40k to 20k etc.
