    Embarrassingly, I found this in the cupboard and I forgot I'd bought it. This is an as-new condition and is the perfect introduction to shorts scales. The only issue with this is that the G tuner was a little loose, so my DIY fix was to superglue it and then buy a replacement. Well, the superglue works just fine, but I never did find a replacement, so it's a little untidy. This is a cool little thing, and just about small enough to be a stocking filler. £65 cash on collection gets it. This really is my last bass for sale, so it'll be an emotional day (not really) Based in Bristol.     This is a beautiful and very rare Yamaha BX-1 headless bass with original fitted hard case. I love the way this bass looks, plays and sounds but I have no need for it anymore a I'm playing in classic-style bands and can't afford to have stuff I don't use hanging around. The condition is good, although there is some wear on the bridge and at the headstock and a few chips. Frets are in good nick too. The sound is unreal, deep deep bass, mids and (I guess if you really had to) you could get a good slap tone out of it. This is up there with the Roland GR-77B as the ultimate 80s bass. Images below, bass strung with flats, weight it about 3kg. I will not package this up and post it, and I won't budge on price as I love it. £650 grabs it.     Without a maker’s mark you’ll need to take it to a professional and get them to check it out. If you can let us know where you’re based perhaps one of us can recommend someone to take it to or call. It’ll need a full condition assessment in any case to assess value. What wonderful memories from your dad and a lovely item to have in the family. My grandad left me a silver cigarette case which is certainly easier to carry!

    Home performance can never mimic live performance, I guess. My wife is doing vocal lessons and her coach suggested (as you did) to do open mics but have someone film it on a camera phone and then reflect on it after. This enables you to identify what’s good and what needs work. Thought that was a good idea!

    Music isn’t a competition and none of us have the answers. If you enjoy it, then that’s all that matters. Personally, after watching a bit of it I’m sure what it aims to achieve, but possibly I’m not the core audience.

    Why do we care? It’s 4 guys all approaching their 30s playing music. The heaps of meaning are layered on afterwards. Watch the rooftop concert, enjoy the records and save yourself 7 hours…

    There’s a funny story in the 17 Watts book where a composer gave Mo Foster an incredibly complex part to play 8va (as a joke) and it filled him with fear. Practising with a drone really helps with getting intonation I found. Weirdly I also found the Simandl book to be helpful for EB too when I was trying to do fretless. In the end, I found the sound I wanted was a DB so bought one of those instead. I’d also echo the point above that master fretless players add all sorts of tricks and techniques (like blues players) to each note. It really is a wonderful sound in the right hands. Good luck!

    Updated the list after a hilarious/annoying misunderstanding ( I sent someone the wrong book as I'm stressed, old and tired). Happy to listen to offers on these if there's something you're interested in.

    This is the last bass I'm selling and the saddest to go. According to Rob Allen himself, this is a Rob Allen Fretted Mouse #1181 - alder body, walnut top, walnut neck and Indian rosewood fretboard. (I'm not going to arge with him!). the wood is wonderful to look at, and sounds even better. This was owned by the legend that is @Frank Blankwho had the pencil thin mandolin frets swapped for larger ones, giving better fretting and enabling you to use a wider range of strings. The condition is excellent. There are two marks (pictured). The bass comes in the Rob Allen fitted hard case and the little booklet and some wax too. This bass plays incredibly well, is light as a feather and is just beautifully made. So, why am I selling? I can't get on with short-scale basses, I need the money for a new business, and I'm getting back into playing double bass. This is strictly collection only, but I can drive and meet you somewhere if Bristol is a way to get to. I can't and won't send this (I can't insure it and I wont' risk this). Price is £2200. This reflects the quality, rarity and the fact that these are hugely in demand now. Pictures below. Anything else you need, let me know.
