  1. It's not a problem to take the bass apart, and as suggested, any serious buyer would want to see it. I think unscrewing the control plate and picturing under there is a good first start and shouldn't take more than a few minutes (and won't break or disrupt anything!)
  2. My friend who is a coder in financial services has said you can spot the examples of code completed by AI. It lacks the sophistication and care of a professional. I have no knowledge to support the statement, but the principle is the same for writing (which I do know about).
  3. The use of AI is becoming endemic. We called out one of our freelance writers for using it recently (a Cambridge educated PhD) as it was so obvious and egregious. I can understand why someone running a website that’s created to sell advertising space may take a shortcut like using AI but I was upset and a little offended that someone being paid a huge amount of money for creating 100% original content would try and pass something off to us like this. What was even more amazing was that they assumed we wouldn’t notice or even check for AI involvement. World has gone mad.
  4. I’m going to disembark the buying and selling train. It’s not made me play better or sound better and I start the year still playing the same stuff by and large.
  5. And respect someone’s choice if they choose to check out for a bit.
  6. Alas, the bar we were going to play at is closing tomorrow due to staff sickness. That’s a big payday gone, but hope the staff are OK.
  7. I’m not making fun of people who have vintage instruments. I have several, it just made me laugh.
  8. It really does look as new. Still think that value wise she’s out by about a grand.
  9. It will take thousands of hours to wear down the frets. Even then they can be recrowned. The greater damage to frets isn’t caused by playwear, it’s the strings being pushed against the frets with high pressure when effectively leaves a dent in the fret. The rest then need to be shaved to ensure an even action.
  10. Beautiful. We used to use boot polish to get the tolex looking as good as possible. I reckon you’d be best off selling in commission at a vintage dealer, I’ve found this the best way to safely engage a global market and get the best price.
  11. I’d heard that one is good. Will download
  12. This is a bit of a weird one, but the last gig I played my tuner started playing up a bit. Thankfully I had a spare (go me). I wanted to know what the best tuner app you had used was or would recommend to me. Free if possible!
  13. Stunning bass.
  14. He just needs the clicks for cash. Fair play. I won’t waste time on it but his interviews can be excellent so will watch those.
  15. We’re playing a swanky cocktail bar in Bristol. We play there regularly and they’re lovely people. Hoping for a good fun, relaxed and fun evening that’s not full of massively drunk idiots. We shall see. Using the wireless unit recommended by @Happy Jack
  16. Thanks for the timely reminder Tim. This has been on my mind for a while. After a gig at a dodgy pub with some even dodgier sockets I’ve now got a good quality socket tester I bring to gigs with me.
  17. Good advice. I’ve done 8 gigs with mine so far and I really like it. Im going to build a few more in slightly different lengths.
  18. Of course if the people you meet can’t play or they don’t like similar music then that’s different. Why would you waste time then? But no collection of musicians who’ve just met is going to sound like a pro band without a lot of time and commitment. Plus, you need to build trust in each other then you can shape the songs more and more.
  19. I don’t want to be too critical, but unless you join an established band you’ll need to put in a lot of work. The best bands are a cohesive unit. It takes time, investment and a lot of frustration. To provide some context, this year I’ve done 30 gigs with one band and only now are we starting to sound really good. The bands in your list will have spent 30 odd years playing the same songs. No wonder they sound amazing.
  20. Two DB gigs this weekend. First was in a quirky little pub that was totally empty before 10:15 and then as full as an egg after. Lots of singing, dancing and merriment. One guy had to be talked down from a chair. Second gig was swanky cocktail bar from 6-8. Alongside a healthy fee I was given a couple of whisky sours (my favourite). Polite applause but a quiet night apparently.
  21. Will order today.
  22. Cheers Jack. The issue I have with the G75 is that it’s a big unit and if I move it’s a little unstable is kept in place with Velcro and I can’t slip it in place for obvious reasons. I think the bug unit is the way to go. Smoothound looks great but is out of stock. I don’t want to open up a can of worms, but given you and I are similar Jack, can you share the link to the unit you use (or message me). Just finished a gig and I nearly had someone whack a lead out.
