Funny there's nobody yet said they don't pay tax on absolutely everything they earn. Are you telling me if you get £40 in your back pocket you declare that? And if you do, then surely you should have an invoice & receipt to prove that's what you earned. And for the record, I pay tax on all my band earnings as well.
Same with any business

Back when I was handling Gallien Krueger, I was lucky enough to hang out with John when he had his pad (I say pad.... the grounds were mahooosive) in near Chessington. He is a fantastic guy to talk to, very grounded. At that time he was resident bassist at Realworld and Abbey Rd. I first got involved with him when he lost his GK Microbass combo off the back of his Harley rinding into town one day.... had to sort out a replacement for him quickly. Two things I vividly remember about him..... he composed a lot with an Akai MPC500... he really got the best out of it. Also he had this upright bass that had a head of a lion carved into the headstock..... bizarre looking thing. At that time I also introduced Tech Sound Systems (Tecamp nowadays) into the UK.... and John was fond of a little 1 x 12" combo ( he loves 12" speakers) and also a Tech Paracube combo.... I tried to get him to become an endorsee but he was really stuck on the GK Microbass.

Have you tried the Akai unit?

Let me know i what you want for them... I have a pair of these already and need another set. Are the ribbons intact? do you have the cables and transformers? Jay -
see if you can borrow a status. looks aren't to eveyones taste but they really "do" recording those Basses. just eq the desk channel flat and turn all on the guitar to "full" for best results. (sounds a bit Nigel Tuffnall that but...) the engineer will probably comment on its massive output but he'll sort that out for you! all the best with the project by the way.
+1 absolutely ideal for recording.....
I had a feeling that was in the offing, Jay. And there was me thinking of offering to trade Miss.Myrtle for your BB... ONLY JOKING! Do you find the same as I do, that although the Status 5-string necks are about the fastest of their type on the planet, the sheer narrowness of the 4-string neck makes it utterly effortless and faster than you yourself could possibly ever play?
I cannot believe that I was thinking of offloading this..... stupid stupid man...... Your'e absolutely correct about the necks.... things is Rich I really only play 5ers these days and I've just realised that I'm going to have to outlay vast amounts of cash over the next few months to have a 5 string version of the Black Beauty built for me..... Sucks huh
I know a singer who is the quintessential "aging rocker" - long, thinning grey hair, beads, denim etc, zero people skills, terrible singer, yet he is always getting gigs and always puts on a good show. I only realised how bad he was when I heard him without seeing him.
Mick Jaggers been doing it for his whole career!!
Both the drummer and the bass player were lucky to get that gig so good luck to them. I think they survive it and play their part even though it is all Bellamy, IMO. I don't think the type of bass really matters FOH..it is what he feels comfortable playing on stage for the track. I do disagree with gratuitous changes though... and there is more mostly making the sound than the bass in there.
I don't think they 'got the gig' as such seeing as they have been mates and in a band since they were all about 13
