The Feeling
Yep, great bass player... also married to Sophie Ellis Bextor - some people are just too lucky!
Hmmm I wouldn't say that was lucky....
  3.
I don't understand why it'd be difficult to drum to a click? Surely if you can't keep to a constant clicking, you're not much of a drummer?
There are a lot of players who cannot do this easily..... believe me
  4. Hey DV Yep have done myself.... used to run a rack of modules with Digital Performer on a older Macbook with a couple of Motu 828 MKK2's handling the Audio (loops). Was very stable and never really had any issues. Used to run two sets one lasting an hour and one an hour and a half. Used to load the second set during the break. Gone back to having a keys player in the band now who drops samples and loops in real time although he is toying with the set up and we will be re-incorporating the sequencer back in at some point over the next few months so I'm really looking forward to that.... I think the key is not to be too dependant on the sequenced material so that it does not become too rigid or mechanical cheers Jay
  5. I'm 42 this year and am pretty much playing full time now.... I work part time designing installation sound systems for various companies and really am enjoying life.... bald so no grey hair.
  6.
When people talk about Pro tools, its not just the software...thats pretty cheap to buy. Top end studios and media broadcast will be using Pro tools HD. [If they use Pro tools] Not a Mbox or M-Audio interface running the Pro tools sequencer. In project studios any software on Mac or PC will get the job done. Then its down to how creative/musical the operator is. Garry
+1 too many people relying on plug-ins or pre-made loops. Don't get too bogged down in the technology. It's a tool not the basis of your musical creativity.
  7.
Have the people that hate slap bass actually listened to the brilliant exponents of the style, or have you gauged your opinions on music shop/trade show show-offs? Just a thought.
Obviously not... reading though this thread.
  8.
Is it flammable?
No but if you wear it while playing, you have to take it off after 15mins or you overheat.
  9.
How come you use the "heavy" head with the lighter cabs and vice versa? I'm planning on using my 2001RB with my 410RBHs and then have a seperate micro rig for practices and small/acoustic gigs. They do sound better than the NEOs IMO, but then the neos are designed to be light (and still do sound great, just not quite as great), the RBH cabs are designed purely for tone. Mikey (I think) popped down on the Sunday, it was mainly Alex, Andy and Clive. I'm crap with surnames, so that's all you'll get. haha
Just the head that I liked using with those cabs.... though I do change around a bit to be honest.

  11.
Seems to me the people who hate slap are the ones who can't do it....much like the guy who couldn't get the chick so calls her names Because there is no denying it...slap sounds amazing..with the correct tone and the right song!!
Couldn't agree more.... I love slap and believe there should be more of it.... :0) .....but then again I do use a Mac, only play in a tribute and function band, own an iPhone, thinks Guy Pratt is a cock and loves slap bass.......
  12. Hey Thom Yes I've been using the GK stuff for years as I too have a tie up with them and Beyer or Polar as they are now known. I have two rigs, one with an old GK MK1 RB1000 head and Aguilar DB112 cabs and the other set up is an MB500 with a 410RBH. I used to use 2 x 410RBH cabs but as you say they are not the lightest cabs around, though I think they have a great sound to them. I just wish they would do away with the carpet finish. never liked that on a cab.... reminds me of cheap car stereo subs.... I couldn't make the show as I was playing three functions over the weekend. Was Mikey C from Polar manning the stand? Jay
  13. It'll be interesting to see if any manufacturers take advantage of the new Thunderbolt port on the new Macbooks..... Claim it's 10Gbps..... which is quite an advancement over Firewire 800 and USB 2.0
  14. Jon...... is the Tinnitus kicking in???
  15.
It all depends on why you play music in the first play. I play (and write) music as a creative outlet. There's nothing very creative about doing covers, unless you're going to do something radical with them, in which case you're probably not going to get much work. Tribute bands, by their very nature, offer zilch room for creativity. The reason they suck is that they are killing the market for original music by creating a nice safe entertainment form for pubs and clubs to offer to the public. They are the flip side to the cheesiness that is the Stars in Their Eyes, the X Factor etc... If there are no (or very few) outlets left for original live music, then how are new bands going to develop in the first play? How will anyone ever know if they are any good or not? So don't give me all the crap excuses about entertaining the public.
Like the Murpheys.........
  16. I've been using Neutrik, Klotz and VDC cables for years and have never had a failure
  17. and this was reported back in January... Father and son team that head up Music Ground and Hiwatt plead 'not guilty' as case is sent to crown court Rick (pictured) and Justin Harrison, the father and son partnership at the helm of both the now defunct Music Ground retail operation and Hiwatt, as well as retail businesses in London's Denmark Street, appeared before magistrates on December 30th, charged with handling stolen goods amounting to £170,000, the Yorkshire Evening Post has reported. The case involves 26 guitars that the pair allegedly handled between October 7th 2006 and March 5th 2010, which are believed to be part of a £1 million haul that occurred in two separate burglaries in Verona, Italy in October 2006. Both Rick and Justin Harrison pleaded not guilty to the charges and the magistrates deemed the case unsuitable for trial before them and had the case committed to Leeds Crown Court. The pair's unconditional bail was extended to the date of the trial on February 10th.
  18. Sounds great.... do you ever play in the south of the country.... London perhaps??
  19. The Seeds of Love - Tears for Fears Just re-discovered this album and cannot stop playing it..... I haven't listened to it for about 5 years...... The production, musicianship and song writing are utterly sublime. Pino and Curt on Bass duties..... some seriously good bass playing going on.

    Live Sound
+1 for leaving him alone to do his job. If the sound guy is good he's good and if he's not, all the nagging in the world won't make him any better. And what do you know about FOH anyway?
That's exactly the thing that gets me.... it's his job. I currently work as a sound engineer/acoustician but I wouldn't dream of telling someone how to do their job at a gig.

    Live Sound

I too find it surprising the amount of people that tell the soundman how to do his job..... it comes up a lot on basschat too.... I'd be pissed off if the soundguy came up to me during soundcheck and told me how to play or get a better sound.... leave them too it, it's not your job!
  24.
Yeah I'd agree about the Octave section (that always jumps in volume even when the synth section id balanced) - I wish I'd known about the newer 3 dial version without as that looks as though you can scroll up and down through the patches rather than just up. Not had any issues with the software, however I hears its VERY funny about peoples computers, even if you blow the required spec out of the water it just decides if it likes the machine or not. Thankfully it likes my mac!
Hmmmm I've tried it on both my iMacs and a pc laptop with the same issue.... not good. yes I might see if I can try the new version somewhere and see if there is a change
