  1. I have owned several Bongos. None of them came with that option.
  2. It is not a real Bongo until it has a dink at the end of the headstock. Get to it.
  3. Nice looking bass! As an aside I also have an MTD Kingston and despite the fact that I "should" sell it I just cannot part with it. They are criminally underrated.
  4. Honestly, it is a long time since I did it, but I was bending notes up "almost" a semitone or sharpening slightly to make it happen. Sometimes pressing the string really hard into the fret was enough to make the difference. But it was definitely a thing.
  5. In keyboard world and guitar world, equal temprement does it's thing and it is fine. In my experinece, playing a fretted bass with an orchestra, very few of whom are tied to equal temprament, means quite a lot of bending notes to fit in where they "should" be.
  6. I went to the Midlands Bass Bash. I played a G&L CLF L1000. I then played my MM5. I realised that the L1000 had a certain je ne sais quoi which I desire. Do they make them in 5 format? Do they heck. I am thinking of options. The easiest is to get an empty MM5 pickup shell and whack an L series 5 string pickup in there. And get a wiring harness made up for the full L1000 experience. I am fully aware that the pickup will be in the wrong place but can live with that while I prove the concept. If I like it I can get a new scratchplate and get frisky with a router to that correct pickup placement. Can I find an empty MM5 pickup shell? Can I heck. Can anyone put me on to one? I suppose I could get one printed. TIA
  7. I have nothing to add, other than WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE? It cannot be that difficult to see that whatever made that happen was not a good idea.
  8. If it is any comfort to you, I am now locked into a CLF L1000 search. Or how to turn my MM5 into an L1000 + 1. I am gutted to have missed the Sire. I have been wanting to try one for some time.
  9. I can see your logic.
  10. Good times indeed. GAS deliberations to be made. Ah, the thrill of the chase.
  11. I don't think Jez is THAT good looking.
  12. I plays beautifully. It sounds lush. jabba_the_gut does make exceedingly nice basses.
  13. That is my favourite thing!
  14. <generic appreciation post>
  15. <I am turning into that bloke>. That is a fine looking axe.
  16. Have you seen my rate of progress as a luthier.........................
  17. I am a timber kind of bloke
  18. I hugely enjoy TI Jazz Rounds on a 35" scale. Bendy and spongy and rubbery. This is a good thing. It put them on a 33" and it was flobbadob central. Newtone round core nickels got me there.
  19. I bought something. It came and everything is very cool.
  20. I hope it has been maturing like a fine wine!
  21. I am kind of hankering after a Sei J5 and could add a bit of ££...............
  22. They do sound great. Just not as great when I am playing it.
