Well, that's a first for me: being offered money NOT to play a gig!

I'm finally fully back as a supporting member after a time in the wilderness playing a load of shows with no time to stand or stare at basschat

D'Addario strings have clarified on Twitter that it is pronounced Duh-Dairy-Oh. Who knew?!

How did I never hear of this great forum? I only joined this morning and I'm in the process of buying a bass I've been after for yonks. Result.

Been doing some troubleshooting on my mute switch/tuner output thingy that wasn't behaving as I was hoping. Turns out there was one hair-like strand of a wire that was sticking out from a soldered joint causing an intermittent short to ground. I obviously need to brush up on my wire tinning skills. *slaps self*

Took a wee break from BC, not sure if anyone noticed!

Guitar player trying to fit in a full time job, family and probably 2 hours a week max for actual guitar playing/home recording

People are weird.
I just replied to a 'bassist wanted' ad on fb that just said a date and location, message me if interested, with no fee, genre etc listed, and the person replied saying 'blocking you because you're asking too many questions' and blocked me.
Like...my interest level depends on the answer to those questions -

Uh oh. I tried a friend's Walrus Julia. Shouldn't have done that. Should not have done that.

HI!
I live in south London. im lookign for a band to join in to gig and have some fun. im familar with blues, soul, rock. I have a solid understanding of the blues. i have been playing harmonica for 30 years. I have also got a friend on the drum who also play blues, in case, you need an entire rythmn section. My style of blues is howling wolf, muddy waters, buddy guy, BB king, alert king.. i also love the black crowes, Creedance, Clapton, Muscle shoal sound...and all good general music played form the soul.

New culinary discovery... kabsah spice. Made a fabulous chicken dish last night using it.

Tuner > Compressor > Preamp/DI > Dist > Octave > Vibrato > ??? - What would you put last (effect or specific pedal)? I’m struggling for inspiration at the moment…

Gigging drummer for 40 years. heart trouble meant I had to give it up. Suffering from depression, and aged 57 I got a rubbish 2/2 foundation degree in popular music. Eventualy, after doing some private tutoring and stuff for a while, bored now, I took up bass as a challenge and have been experimenting for some time. I started out with a heavily customised stag 24 fret 4 string (Seymour Duncan 1/4 pounders , grover tuners and decent strings etc.} and a Laney RB4 160 watt amp. , learned a few classic rock tunes and did a couple of pub gigs with three like minded oldies, but I was forced to move out the area, and the band really wasn't that good it warranted travelling for. Living on my own and with no musical contacts I took a more serious approach and I now have Quicy Tolouse 6 string through neck active, with a mark bass little mark lll and a pair of Hartke 210 XL cabinets, and I am trying to teach myself to play Bach Cello parts with a view to teaming up with a flute player. Okay I always did have ambitions beyond my abilities but if you don't try you'll never know 🙂 All of this brings me to the point of my signing up to the forum., so I'll leave this and head over to my first attempt at a post.

Happy Xmas, peoples of Basschat. 🎅🎄🎉

Hi all, I’m new to Basschat and looking forward to it!

I'm a retiree from the Rat Race looking to re-start a wee rock band in the Newcastle-on-Tyne area to play 60s and 70s and anything later that rocks. I played in the mid 70s. Work took over. I also use guitar and can write songs.
Anyone like-minded out there want to join me? I'm sure I can rock for another 20 years at least!
I am also author as Kendric Ross.
My musician name was George Power, and although my band played in Scotland I became nicknamed 'Purple Geordie'.

Joy: realising that Crich Tramway Museum is only half an hour down the road from my holiday let.
Heartbreak: finding that yesterday was its last open day this year.
