I have no objection in principle. PM'd. Derby. I'd be happy to cover the East Midlands. Further if I got reasonable expenses paid. -

I don't use Skype. Why would you willingly introduce digital lag into a conversation? I don't have distant relatives that I keep in touch with nor has it been a necessity anywhere that I have worked so it's a non-starter for me. One of the reasons for not using mobile telephony as much as my service provider likes is lag. I can not have a relaxed telephone conversation on a mobile the same way that I can on a landline to landline connection. Even when the sound quality is less than crystal clear the timing of statement and response is more natural than so called "clean" digital audio. I hate laggy audio and I absolutely will not buy into it. Where it is provided for free it is difficult to tolerate too. I have a pocket Zoom recorder. Remote interviewing is not something I'd want to do. I'd prefer a day out to visit with anyone who has interesting experiences to impart to the listeners. I'm not up for the role of international correspondent as a consequence. -

I've already sucked those eggs as I am sure others have too. As I say, your advice is sound. We do have a significant number of novices who can learn from it. -
Are you bothered if you ding your relic’d bass?

This is a wind-up, right? I feel you. This is a topic for the anally retentive. I need to sit on the doughnut in Granny's greenhouse now. *unfollow* -
Good suggestion. From what I read, that might be better than going to Nordstrand pups. I've not tried Nordies nor genuine Barts in anger but my Mk I Barts may be in line for a similar upgrade. On the subject of Barts vs Nordies there are posts in the forum where folk seem polarised towards one or the other. For the moment, I am happy enough with my Mk I Bartolini equipped Ibby even though they sound a bit heavy bottomed and less well defined in the lows than I'd like. I am to be considered as being a bit wet behind the ears on the subject however.

Yes but make sure to wash your hands before you go for a wee. Your red bass will not save you from an embarrassing chilli burn in a delicate area. -
This was the bit that stuck in my craw. Correct. I have experience in both the civil and the military application of flight. Sir Frank Whittle developed the predecessor of the jet turbine engine that we know today. Manufacturers changed the design of the compressors in a major development going from the radial type to the axial type. In the seventies, Royce's designed a three spool version of the axial flow engine (others have two only). They got a highly efficient version of the engine and it was hailed as a triumph of design. That same design is a world leader now. Neither Pratt and Whitney nor GEC can match the engine's efficiency with their big engines. The British Government has to be given credit for supporting Royce's during the birth of the RB211in the seventies because they were about to go under financially before they could get the RB211 into production. RR Trent 1000 Yup. What he^ said.

I'm quite sure that you would be a welcome contributor. You've been an early achiever where building is concerned. I'd hope to hear your view of things. -
Crack a whip why don't you? Heeheehee, it's not a bad idea though and it might even work with opaque polycarbonate.

Well done that man! If it bonds well I'm thinking it will be a bit like inlaid binding only less superficial.

I think the issues you raise are valid but remember that the membership, by and large, are not exactly virgins when it comes to working with audio. Similarly with recording which implies an appreciation of the need to edit in a way that highlights the good content and limits the fluff, as it were. Field recordings can sound good too. -
You are quite wrong about the Jet engine. As someone who has freelanced for Royce's on a few contracts I can assure you of that.

Glad the preference for audio is not just me. I have read for the Derby Association for the Blind before and I tripe type a lot if there is any need for a back office keyboard jockey. I'll quietly wait until called upon. Cracking idea Akio. I hope that there will be something to gain from the idea for the forum generally but it's not something I'd pay extra for. Bear in mind that I am a tight git, ask anyone. -

I'd favour an audio version too but I think we have to consider the yoof. An audio only podcast might not be engaging enough for younger minds. Akio, I don't know if you had an AV presentation in mind or audio only. -

Actually, paper is an abrasive. Your standard white printer paper has china clay in it. It's such a fine grit that it can be used to polish some materials. The back of an abrasive paper sheet will do fine, like Grangur suggests. -

I wouldn't call it sanding but it doesn't hurt to take off the nibs and surface debris that inevitably strike before each successive coat. I'd say sanding is only worth considering at this stage if your work fails the Veet stubble test with your missus' finest chiffon scarf. -

Hey! You could get away with eating beetroot sandwiches in the interval. Finger prints will not show up like on other finishes. /flippancy I think it's going to come up even better with the finish coats. From what I gather locally, the trick is to allow your stain coats to dry fully before deciding where absorption is light or heavy. -
