  1. They were a cracking little band though. Such pointy hairstyles, no wonder you bled.
  2. If this is to be believed, yes. "The neck joins the body via a paddle-like heel extension which slots into a rectangular cut-out in the body, stopping just short of the bridge pickup. Although originally designed to be glued in, the snug neck/body join is also secured by a single bolt visible on the back of the guitar. This bolt also acts an anchor for the truss-rod end which the Mays bent into shape on the kitchen cooker."
  3. Not if you consider the hammer that Billy subjects his instrument to. More fasteners of a smaller diameter will compress the neck/body interface much the same except that the load is more evenly distributed. I don't know why he wants it like that but I'd guess it is for durability. It's a case of the right horse for the right job. The way we tend to see electric bass played these days is a bit different to how it was back then.
  4. That's phlippin well phenominal! Congrats.
  5. If the neck pocket and neck root are a close fit, it should not be a problem. If they are not, you might need more fasteners. The neck plate helps spread the load imparted by the three bolts. At the thread end of the bolts however you might find that a couple of neck removal/installation jobs leave the female threads weakened. If the job has been done with care that wouldn't normally be a problem either. I'm with you though. It never inspires me with confidence to see cars with three studs per wheel even with the knowledge that it's perfectly good engineering.
  6. Then I have no doubt that it is better than mine. To be fair to Ibanez I don't think my woolly bottom end is that bad. I run a fifteen and an eighteen inch speaker at relatively low volume (neighbour friendly level) so that could be behind a lot of what I am hearing. I'd like it tighter but I'd have to see some financial return from my playing before investing that sort of cash into my hobby playing. It's not likely to go that way but it's good to have the knowledge already if it ever does.
  7. Welcome Keith. You've come to the right place.
  8. I ham unable to hear that for all the crackling in the background. I see you have beefed up your case somewhat however.
  9. I know my Ibanez preamp has Ibanez branding on the pcb and no branding marks externally visible on the mkI Bartolinis. I'll assume that yours is a Bartolini branded pre. Does the mid band on yours have switchable range?
  10. I'd check with whoever represents the Pink Floyd brand if I were you. We could both be on very dodgy ground. Why couldn't you have gone with something like this?:
  11. We're having a Skype meeting with Mr Chown this weekend. I'll bear it in mind. Remember where you read it first. I'll grant licence for the usual fee.
  12. (Nips off out in the direction of the Patent's Office)
  13. I hear good things about bamboo laminates. Also, @Christine is considering using Rocklite for the fingerboard on a build. The two together ought to earn some eco-geek points.
  14. Yes. The only other place I can see where it might belong is Repairs and Technical. I'd put it here and If the local mods get all bovva'd about it, they can move it as appropriate. I am very interested in the inlay process. I'm just off to see if I can find the swear jar.
  15. I heard that about the mkI Bartolinis when I was choosing the SR605. Mine has the two way mid tone control whereas the newer ones have a three way version. I suspect that the three way mid is supposed to address the preamp shortcomings. It got luke warm reviews also.
  16. It's getting exciting. Would MDF work with a CF wrap I wonder? It's probably not great under compression across the "grain".
  17. That's a problem for some. Feature bloat can be a bugger when your needs are simple. It seems that no-one is bothered by it under the age of about fifty or so...?
  18. I was thinking more along the lines of starting a Rocklite topic here. Nice work on the block inlays. It looks like you do the routing "freehand" as it were. No template? That's how I like to work with the smaller power tools. Did you finish the edges with a chisel? Yes. I must stop skim reading.
  19. Depends on your intentions when left alone in a darkened room with it...
  20. I wondered about the 24th fret marker and thought it might not have been on the template. Having looked back, I see it has at the top of page two. Was it hard to do what with the frets being in and all?
  21. I'd get on better with an old kipper hanging off of my rear view mirror. Those air "fresheners" have a stench that really gets up my hooter.
  22. Cheers. I have it in mind to try that out on my Pit Bull. The passive humbuckers have a good output and the individual coil wires are accessible for tapping.
