1. Good call there man I have a normal tort guard that I can swap with if the mood takes
2. Having just got my bass GAS under control with my MIJ fender Precision + various tweaks, I've got some amp GAS well the amp head is sorted so i'm just gassing for a cab or two so I can use the fecker In general though i find i GAS for basses and effects more than amps, once i find an amp/cab setup that I like then I tend not to change it unless I really have to, in fact come to think of it apart from my lil peavey micro bass I've only ever had my Marshall 3530 head and Marshall VBC 4x12 cab both now sadly departed
3.
what do you think of the wizard thumper. i play punk music and im not sure between a wizard thumper and a seymour duncan pickup?
I like it IMO its a bit darker sounding than my original fender pup, its more aggressive sounding (more oooomf) and very punchy with a good top end again all IMO Drop Andy an email from the website and tell him the sound your after and as all his pups are custom made you can get them wound to suit i.e more bass, more output etc. hope that helps dude

Merton

bought Mertons Trace Elliot head from him, very nice bloke to deal with, likes a good bleather and his packing skills are worthy of a gold star the amp even arrived a day early cant say better than that. cheers again dude
5. this is killin me! if only i had the £400 for the cab
6. Big Freekin Cabinet
7. tis a toughie that one dude, my MIJ P is great in terms of playability and the build quality is up there if not better than some MIA's i've tried, but i like the look of the new highway1's. I would say probably that the Highway1 will hold its value more due to being a limited editon model.
8. Looks even better in this light Its now got a Wizard Thumper pup, stacked vol/tone and a villex rotary booster fitted.
9. Chris, dunno if it'll help but my p bass has been wired to stacked vol/tone when i put my villex booster in there i could take some pics of the wiring and post em? just to put another option in the mix?
10. Jazz scratchplate now gone, just the P bass pup left folks, might stick it on ebay soon
11.
Excellent. Have often wondered about putting a MM pickup in a P. Can't see the second pic though unfortunately.
that makes two of us then i thought it was just me
12. dunno what he's using but did cliff burton not use a morley power wah and his big muff to get that sound?
13.
anyone else know someone who does pickup repairs? the lowwinder guy couldnt do it. have you got a link to however that hsi person is?
Andy at wizard pickups (www.wizardpickups.co.uk) does repairs a beleive
14. EDIT: Doh! got beaten to the punch by the burpster Indeed young padwan......!
15. www.wizardpickups.co.uk my thumper only cost £50 and i think the jazz pups go for about the same money EDIT: the jazz pups 64's or 84's are £40 each so they're well in your budget
16. black scratchplate would look cool but so would tort and mirror eeeek the choice! although for pickups i'd go for a wizard thumper.
17.
Cant vouch for the amps but I have a 4x12 cab I use. Have never had a problem with it. Just bought a 2x10 (not Marshall) to give it a bit more punch. Does weigh a ton though.
Aye ma old cab is a wee bit of a backbreaker I had a 30th anniversary head a 3530 i think it was with the chrome face, 300w @4ohms and it sounded great with the marshall vbc 4x12 i sold to Bob. Shame i had to sell it as it was a cracking sounding not to mention loud amp. I'm doing some amp shopping at the end of the month when my bonus comes in and i may be looking at the new Marshall MB series stuf. . . . . .
18. Maple all the way, i prefer it to the rosewood board i had on mim jazz
19. sold Stewart a red t/shell pbass scratchplate, paid within mins top bloke
20. I have a mij p pass from the same era and i havent had any probs in that dept, although i've just replaced the pup with a wizard thumper and it now sounds soooo much better than before. I think i read somewhere once that if you up the gauge of string it can help in that dept either that or raise the pickup so its closer to the string?
21. P plate sold, Cheers Stewart pics available if anyone wants em
