  1. If there needs to be a piece of card pushing against something for it to make a good contact then tt's probably just a solder joint that needs reflowing. Take the card out and lightly push against different components to see what makes a difference, starting with that capacitor then the pickup trim pots as they would be most affected by the card/tape bodge. Probably still worth messaging John East to see what he says.
  2. It's a job lot so you need to take the rest of my junk drawer, err... junk to get the straplocks I'm afraid.
  3. Been in storage for years now, 4 black case latches with screws. Unused but somehow worn, natural relic finish I guess. Have loads of fun building yourself a box or something, I dunno. Can't even remember why I bought them.
  4. I had a wedding gig well over 15 years ago in a more rural part of Wales, no phone signal and this was before wifi was commonplace. The DJ turned up (late) with just his laptop expecting to be able to remotely stream or download his set from his home server over our PA, then started panicking when he realised the hotel had no wifi and you could just about get enough signal to send/receive a text if you stood in a precise area of the car park about 1.5m square. He was asking around for CDs, surprisingly none of the wedding guests had any and our old LDV van still only had a tape deck so he ended up just playing the new (at the time) Madonna album on repeat as that's all he had in his car. Wasn't a cheap do either, they'd paid to put the band up for two nights in the hotel and it was a good money gig to begin with. I'm lazy and complacent but there's levels to this game and this guy was the pound for pound champion.
  5. Saved £250 as well, next stop contact East to see if they'll do me a Uni pre 5 knob with a separate active/passive switch. Will probably gig it first to see how it sits in the mix.
  6. Bought a Cort GB Modern 5 from MNY, nice bloke!
  7. 4th time lucky, got a used bass courtesy of @MNY who was working just a 15 minute drive from me. Very happy with it, now just have to get some work done instead of sitting in my office playing bass all day. Excuse the awful pictures.
  8. There's plenty of single cab solutions on the used market for under £400. I had the same issue as you, just needed a compact one hand carry cab for rehearsals as the provided equipment was inconsistent, plus our regular rehearsal space has extra gear in a storage room and to get to a decent cab I'd have to shift tons of heavy gear out of the way (had to lift two old Trace cabs and an two ancient power amps with their own centre of gravity last time) which defeats the object! Ended up with a PJB C8L off here for £360. There's a couple of Epifani cabs in the classifieds for under £200 each, also a Markbass 2x10 for £245.
  9. Great score that!
  10. Get some copper tape and shield the cavity, make sure you link the bridge ground to it. Don't need to buy the expensive stuff, can get 5m off AliExpress for about £3.50 which works fine.
  11. Hahaha hopefully, I think Cort should just send me one of these for free now! Thankfully MNY is working just down the road from me so it's even more convenient.
  12. Cort haven't built basses in Korea for years now, the singlecut will be Indonesian. TBh I've had a ton of Cort built basses and they've never been anything other than excellent, even the ones with the licensed Bart MkI electronics were very well put together and just needed a decent preamp. Plenty of people bought the guitar guitar clearance basses early on (they've been on sale for a while now) and had no issues, I think the basses I've had are the dregs of their stock and are mainly customer returns. So basically you're getting the basses which other people haven't found to be acceptable. Couple that with a shop that don't really care about what they send out and you'll get some duds.
  13. I want the fancy top, specced out hardware and the Nordstrands really so will just wait for a used GB Modern. Was tempted to wait it out until the end of January and get a new one instead of a refund but I'd most likely just end up with another lemon! Was going to put an ad in the wanted section but you need to pay for that now.
  14. Right so apparently my refund is processing now so the other issue with that 3rd bass was the truss rod being completely maxed out and the bass having a little too much relief for my liking, more than the first bass which PinkMowhawk now has (the best of the three IMO). You can back off tension but it's at its limit so basically a goosed neck for all intents and purposes, playable (and giggable) as it is but if you need to make an adjustment in the future you're out of luck. All attempts at adjusting it were made with the strings slackened way off and no tension on the neck so it's definitely not a happy bass and one to avoid. I didn't reveal this earlier as I am always a little wary of shops knowing you've made (or in this case tried to make) a truss rod adjustment even though it's just a normal part of a setup, it's also why I asked for a straight refund instead of a repair/discount. I was planning on putting an Uni Pre in one of these anyway but not one I where I can't get the neck as flat as I'd like that might be a ticking timebomb in the future. Wish I'd just grabbed one of these when they first went on sale really as it looks like I've ended up with the dregs, all three of 'em!
  15. If they're a direct retrofit then they'll just drop in and the screw holes will line up. If you want to use the new bushings then you'll need to tap out the old ones which may be very snug, I use an appropriately sized socket bit and gently tap that from behind. Make sure the headstock is resting on a towel or something. If they aren't drop in then you'd need to fill and redrill the screw holes, can do this with cocktail sticks and wood glue then carefully level with a chisel. Res-o-lites will likely cover the old screw holes. Worst case scenario is the post diameter is different which will involve either plugging and redrilling or reaming. The Sire V5 should come with the adjustable Grover clones so unless it's for weight saving there's no real need to upgrade them, I actually stuck a set on my Aria STB-DX and have no issues with tuning stability.
  16. Well the third bass is now up for sale, no mention of the preamp fault (just a random "there's a ding on the neck" line, there isn't btw) so maybe they've fixed this: https://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/product/230420404129008-14542343--cort-gb-modern-5-open-pore-charcoal-grey-ex-demo-ie221 No sign of my refund yet so I've messaged them, weird how they can get the bass back up for sale. I still wouldn't buy this bass btw, I'll wait until I get my full refund to tell you why.
  17. Shameless plug:
  18. I would just message East, their support is pretty good.
  19. Yep, there's definitely some unscrupulous practices going on. Unfortunately everywhere else the GB Modern 5 is over a grand.
  20. A used Cort GB35 (or a GB54 if you get lucky) can often be had for a similar price as well. This is an absolute steal if you're local: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/3808653296123817/
  21. Ebay sold listings suggest £40-£100 so probably a bit overpriced. Stagg were a budget brand from years back, I'd be looking at a new Harley Benton or something like that.
  22. Will be your standard cheap copy I would imagine, brand is irrelevant. You'll get hit with import fees from Canada as well. There's a Squier CV 60s Mustang for under £300 in the classifieds
