  1. Could you just pinch the saddles of one of the vintage styled bridges, like this? https://northwestguitars.co.uk/collections/bass-bridges/products/hosco-vintage-style-4-string-bass-bridge-with-threaded-saddles
  2. I've just snagged the TGI Ultimate for sale here so will give that a weigh on Thursday.
  3. Gator Pro Go Deluxe - 3.9kg / 7.7lb Gator Pro Go X / Transit - 2.45kg / 5.4lb TGI Extreme - 1.87kg / 4.1lb Also the Gator Pro Go Deluxe guitar gigbag for the headless users - 3.1kg / 6.9lb
  4. I'll do the Gator Pro Go X / Transit, Pro Go Deluxe and TGI Extreme later if ya like? All are really light.
  5. I'm gonna play the long game and bump this thread in a few years.
  6. THE BEST BASS RELATED CHRISTMAS PRESENT WOULD BE THAT 5 STRING MTD FROM THE CLASSIFIEDS.
  7. Might be an idea to all write down what we want in a large bold font and just leave it on screen when family members are round.
  8. Just restrung my main bass today and stuck my usual set of D'Addario EXL165-5 on it, the bass came with a very light set of SIT strings which I wasn't fond of. After setting it up how I like I was left with 2.5 to 1.7 with a tiny bit of relief (almost flat) in the neck.
  9. This is probably the best idea really, I'd be overjoyed with a ratty old Jazz copy I could have fun cleaning up.
  10. Poor show that, they've seriously dropped the ball here.
  11. Can't believe D'Addario ruined Christmas by not doing this discount on 5 string sets. I've put a couple of mates on to these anyway so thanks for the heads up, can't beat that price.
  12. Assumed he'd be ok with that as he was looking at a TRB 6er and had one previously.
  13. Keep an eye out for a used MTD Kingston Z6? This one has sold now but £600-£700 is a fairly typical price: https://richtonemusic.co.uk/mtd-kingston-z6-natural-2nd-hand/?srsltid=AfmBOorXakYV9J3o-pbHqUfXc6V8B7PMHUi0EEMKO2JgWhuxMEuxQCjm
  14. 2.5mm on the B is pretty standard, 1.5mm on the G is low for some people. If you find it easy to play, it sounds good and fret noise isn't an issue with your technique then don't worry about it. The last two used 5 strings I've bought both had what I'd consider to be an excessively low action, if you like to vary your attack but still want the B to "speak" properly then just nudge it up a little. As long as the rest of the bass is set up well it won't take much.
  15. The one I leave in my front room (WeTune) works fine with my EHB, not tried the D'addario.
  16. I hate novelty gifts, they get put to one side for an appropriate length of time so I don't look ungrateful then go straight to the charity shops. I'd much rather have things I can use or have been casually looking at. Consumables are a good gift idea as they'll always get used. Here's my list anyway: - If they llke doing their own setups then the fret sanding/polishing pads are a good idea, best to ask what they don't have or what they need first really. -Find what brand, model, length and gauge of strings they use (search for the packet when they restring!) and buy some of those. - Decent gigbags are always handy even if they're just for storage, you can count the amount of instruments and cases to see if they're needed. TGI Extreme are hard to beat and unless they exclusively use mini basses or weird/oversized shapes there's no danger of them not fitting. - In terms of general accessories clip on tuners are always handy and you can always do with one more to leave on an instrument or in a certain room, D'Addario ones are cheap (about £12) and good. - Those Joyo/Harley Benton mini battery powered amps might actually make a nice gift, the sort of thing most bassists wouldn't rush out and buy for themselves but would use regularly if one magically appeared on Christmas day.
  17. The D'addario XTPBB190GS strings (for the Taylor GS Mini) are what comes on the Ibanez parlour basses as stock.
  18. On the original designs you can take the latching assembly apart and realign the arms, did that to mine years ago when it went wonky and it's fine now. Tried to do the same to a mate's but it was riveted together instead of using screws.
  19. Another vote for the Hercules, got mine over 15 yrs ago IIRC and it's still my main stand. One of those bits of kit you'd just replace like for like if it got stolen/lost/damaged.
  20. It's always the ones you most expect.
  21. Spotted on FB https://www.facebook.com/groups/BassPlayersMarketUK/posts/a-lovely-precision-style-bass-replica-of-a-famous-guitar-brand-but-in-no-way-the/9110129235665290/
  22. Just spotted this in PMT's sale, a used MiJ '62 reissue with hard case for £799: https://www.pmtonline.co.uk/pre-owned-fender-precision-bass-mij-62-reissue-with-hard-case-055246
  23. I don't think they can be bothered with UK customers any more, returns must be much more difficult/costly for them to process. Couple that with them being a box shifting volume seller means it might be less lucrative when inadequately packaged cheaper items end up damaged. When I returned a bass to them two years ago it was all wrapped up much faster than this. Would have been a better idea all round to ask you to make a video of the damage making sure the serial number was visible then just offer a decent chunk of money off.
