I thought the Grammas used Neoprene which explains the price?
It's this stuff: http://www.studiospa...am/invt/461330/ Annoyingly it doesn't say how long a strip you get so you may need to buy two or more

Roqsolid 15% discount on all covers until new year

Thought some of you might be interested in this, i know their amp covers are popular on here and now would seem a great time to buy one! http://www.amplifiercoversonline.com/zencart/index.php The site still makes your eyes bleed though, makes me want to order a cover to put over my laptop. -
When a cheapo Aria is worth 1k.....
depending how you read that they could be used and then put back in the packets and re sealed...
I did think that but couldn't really find a way to word it without being a little bit sick in my mouth -
Because of the added sustain thats how it was found, it was still ringing out from the last time John went in the loft and caught the A string putting back a box of christmas decorations.
I have these going spare as I have acquired duplicates on compilations. Soldier of Fortune is older and will work on pretty much anything (Quake 2 engine), runs fine on netbooks. Unreal Tournament 2004 works on pretty much anything with a video card. There's also Half Life GOTY edition which includes Team Fortress and an add on CD. I can stick the They Hunger zombie total conversion mod on a CD too if you want. Ta Steve

"who claimed he recovered it from the loft of John Entwistle's old home, better know as the Ox. Can't verify that" Why bloody mention it then? It really gets my goat when a provenance is hinted at with no effort or intention to verify it. As if namedropping a famous deceased player and alluding to a tenuous link between them and the instrument in the listing somehow adds value to it.
They obviously didnt work, as he had to sell his out of date condoms (obviously too big or just unused..)
"(please note that these condoms are out of date...please do not be put off as are all perfectly sealed and packaged as new plus i use them)." What a bizarre thing to list on eBay! Who actually buys out of date johnny bags? -

This is still the most baffling: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CUSTOM-BUILT-BASS-GUITAR-L-K-/180754012416?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2a15c75900 Ebony neck? B0ll0cks! Notice it says short scale body, yet it's a bog standard Fender copy neck with the headstock butchered. This is explained here: "I ALSO NEED TO POINT OUT THAT THE TUNING IS A BIT STRANGE MAYBE YOU CAN SORT IT OUT OR EXTEND THE BOTTOM OF THE BODY SO THE BRIDGE CAN GO FURTHER BACK...ITS ASHAME FOR SUCH A NICE INSTRUMENT TO BE HUNG ON THE WALL...THEN AGAIN WHY NOT...ITS A WORK OF ART..." -
Why do I need LESS volume in the second set?

Your drummer might be a bit tired and isn't whacking his kit so much? -
Oh dear.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CUSTOM-BUILT-BASS-GUITAR-PRO-AIRBRUSHED-L-K-/180754643413?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2a15d0f9d5 I've mentioned this guy before, he's local to me [shudders] and has a habit of butchering guitars, giving them a half arsed motorcycle gas tank spray job and sticking them up on eBay for many times their value. Here we have what looks like an Aria Pro body with an Aria STB neck on, the P pickup rout filled in and the tuners ground down to a funny (and sharp looking) shape. It now sports a fuzzy amateur paint job which qualifies it to be called a "custom built" instrument with a "pro airbrushed" finish. So that's parts from 2 cheapy basses that have been bolted together and painted in a shed, seems like a bargain for £999.....

Very cheap strings - if that's what you like ;-(
lemmywinks replied to KiOgon's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Probably the same as most of the generic Alice, Castle, Johnny Brook, Cheetah etc ones, you can get them for around £4-£5 a set off eBay. I've bought quite a few sets of the Alice and Castle branded ones from a Crack Converters clearout (about £2.50 a set!), getting to the end of them now and not had a single bad one. Take ages to calm down and always sound like cheap strings but they're more than usable once they do, miles too zingy for my liking out of the box though. I've had a set on my Aria for ages and they sound pretty good now, more than enough for an around-the-house bass or a backup. -
Beware of the Barefaced bubble on here, nobody who has ponied up their hard earned is going to say they are sh*t on a forum that thinks the sun shines out of a Barefaced arse.
Apart from the people who have, like this guy: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/70650-barefaced-tvintage-review/page__hl__barefaced%20vintage%20review There's also other posts where people who have bought Barefaced haven't found them to their liking. Alex does have a return period so there's no pressure to keep a cab you don't like either. Amazing that after 48 posts you have such a comprehensive understanding of the forum, it must have taken you ages trawling through those old threads from before you joined!

Is it worth getting courier insurance on a £700 bass?
lemmywinks replied to CBbass's topic in Bass Guitars
Something else to remember is that some couriers (DHL) require photographic proof of a damaged parcel, before it is opened! So the buyer would have to have the common sense to either not sign for it or not open it and contact the seller before checking inside which I think is almost impossible to stop!
Interparcel required detailed photos of the exterior of the parcel, the interior showing all packing and the actual item itself. I was a little worried as the package was not damaged at all and the seller had packed it extremely well, the cab also looked new. The damaged to the driver was most likely caused by a sudden jolt rather than being crushed. Fortunately I got a cover note from John at EA detailing the likely faults and what had caused them, also what repairs would cost from EA and what my options were. I think this was very beneficial to have and would reccommend shooting a quick email to the manufacturers of any damaged items, after all it's hard to argue with a professional opinion. -
First gig last night with my Auralex Gramma Pad
lemmywinks replied to tonyf's topic in Accessories and Misc
It's especially handy if you ever play those big old empty wooden stages or dancefloors. There were places that I used to gig that gave me headaches trying to position my cab to get a manageable sound and the Gramma sorted it straight away. -
Is it worth getting courier insurance on a £700 bass?
lemmywinks replied to CBbass's topic in Bass Guitars
This is interesting. I use interparcel and always take out enhanced cover when I post anything. However, their list of prohibited items specifically mentions items with magnets or magnetic material in - which would include speakers and pickups I would have thought.
Yeah it specifically mentions ferrite magnets and speakers. I described the item as a bass cabinet and when I put a claim in I was clear to use the words "ceramic driver" rather than "ferrite speaker". I figured it was unlikely they have messrs Claber or Fitzmaurice working in their claims department so tried my luck hoping it's work. It did! -
Which Basschatters bass would you most like to own? (and why?)
lemmywinks replied to EBS_freak's topic in Bass Guitars
Either Warwickhunt's Bolin or The Funk's Infinity. In fact if Jsixties hasn't sold his Infinity then that one too. I also love the mean green Pedulla that Shockwave did. -
I think it was mentioned (or rather hinted at) that it just sounds equally loud at 8ohms as it does at 4ohms, no switching or anything. I suspect a lot of amps are like this tbh, although comparing them with like for like cabs at different impedances is tricky. The extra volume that comes with going from 8ohms to 4ohms is pretty much always because someone has added an extra cab!
Seems more Bugera than Ibby.
It looks very much like the Promethean and nothing like a Bugera.
-
I've been intrigued by those amps for a while, you never hear much about them - the only person who I know has one is Paul up there /\ /\ /\ - but you'd think they'd sell loads, even just as backup amps. The 250w one was even cheaper too.
But if you could get this concept to work, the idea of an 8x10 "lego" cab which could easily fit in most cars would sell bloody quick IMHO. Especially if you could go out and buy 1 or 2 at a time relatively cheaply
Surely you're not saying someone should build two boxes, each with four of the aforementioned 10" speakers in which can then be stacked on top of each other? To be sold seperately? You're mad, it'll never catch on!
-
It would be handy on out of town gigs though, you could but your butties and a bottle of Fanta in the cab. plenty of room for some monster munch and a mini pork pie too, you could stash that behind the tweeter assembly.

Is it worth getting courier insurance on a £700 bass?
lemmywinks replied to CBbass's topic in Bass Guitars
Has anybody ever had a payout on a insured bass getting damaged/lost/stolen/delivered to wrong place/just plain disappeared?
I had a payout on a damaged EA cab shipped via Interparcel. Stupidly I'd stuck with the base £50 cover which wouldn't go anywhere near getting the custom driver fixed properly. Ended up getting the £50 + original fee back (£58 in total) which went some way towards replacing the driver with a suitable neo one so I didn't end up losing out in the end but the lesson is there - get the appropriate cover or risk being very disappointed. -
Trace made 2x10 cabs.....

Is it worth getting courier insurance on a £700 bass?
lemmywinks replied to CBbass's topic in Bass Guitars
Definitely. If it gets damaged you want to be fully covered, although there are much cheaper companies. Usually insurance is £5 for every £250 increment with the companies I use.
