  1. I knew who the seller was just by the pics and price tag!
  2. Again with this rubbish: "So give old John Hornsby-Skews up north who builds them a break and try one for yourself!" Why is he trying to imply these are UK built guitars? JHS is the importer (it's spelt John Hornby Skewes btw Mark....), seeing as Mr. Skewes is in his mid 80s and left the company in 2016 I seriously doubt he is assembling Encore parts in his garden shed. MDP did the same with those budget pickups on another bass, allegedly from John Hutchinson of Janika Guitars in Nottingham - ie cheapo Chinese jobbies from the Janika eBay store. Surely he can't see this bogus sales patter and embellishment as anything other than complete dishonesty?
  3. They're Indonesian Corts made to varying specs, as said above the SDGR has a slightly different scale length with really tight spacing whereas the BTB has wider spacing. If you compare them to other Corts they'll usually have the same hardware and electrics so you aren't just limited to those models either.
  4. I think that gold bass looks ok, wouldn't play it myself but for what it is there's nothing wrong with it. Would look better with 3 concentric pots rather than 6 single ones.
  5. Or just put a P neck on your Jazz bass.
  6. Looks like standard USA Fender routing to me.
  7. The annoying thing is the primary school paint brown with the woodgrain scratchplate and a floral motif actually looks alright to me, a bit of a geography teacher's bass but it looks "together" and cohesive. Like he actually had a design goal and put some thought into what he wanted it to look like. Then he dropped a couple of tabs and set about it with with an angle grinder.
  8. Looking at his previous attempts at modification I'm guessing it involved a perfectly good bass case, a saw and a case of Special Brew.
  9. Came here to post that, you can pick the headless kits up for barely any money and do a much less time consuming and far more elegant job than that. The end result would probably be one which would sell quite easily too. For some reason I quite like that wonky looking Kramer though.
  10. That's ace! I've been trying to get our keys player to wear an energy dome for years, the pillock calls it a hat...........
  11. I shop pretty regularly on there and it's no different from buying anywhere else really, they seem to have a few Ibanez branded parts for good prices including those big humbuckers with oversize black pole pieces. In fact I have AliExpress bridges on two basses at the moment and they're both great, a lot of the hardware you see on UK parts resellers is the same stuff but with a higher price tag.
  12. Just had a quick look for the fallout thread (the bass was sold on the marketplace here) and it was 2009. EDIT - Old bald fella, had a penchant for wearing tartan trousers.
  13. Yeah I had to message Mr. Peebles after said bass player scammed me on here by not paying for a bass. FWIW your mate seemed like a decent bloke, the tartan trousered mess of a bass player less so!
  14. Not a James something is it? Bryce?
  15. Would explain the spelling errors!
  16. That fretless is lovely @Beedster, keep having a sneaky look at it on your FS thread! Exactly my type of fretless if you remove all that chrome stuff.
  17. I put this together for under £300 with careful used purchases, done over a couple of years though! Fishman Piezo bridge with a Bartolini preamp, skimped on the tuners (Wilkonson) and pickups (Duncan Designed) to keep the cost down with an eye to upgrading them when suitably priced parts came up but I never bothered. Neck is Mighty Mite (back before they shot up in price) and the body is from an old Cort built Hohner. Looks, sounds and plays like a much more expensive bass. I wouldn't immediately discount cheap hardware from AliExpress etc either, I have a Schaller copy bridge fitted to an old Jazz bitsa which has been great and I have one of these on my Cort which is surprisingly heavy and all I need in a bridge: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/A-Set-Chrome-Vintage-L-Shape-Saddle-Bridge-for-5-String-Electric-Bass-Guitar-Top/32701082348.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4dEVbgCU
  18. Ah right, the seller said they were £110 so I assumed they were USA. Can get the licensed ones for about £15 each and they ended up selling for £68 posted which is a bit naughty if they're licensed. The licensed ones are great btw, mentioning just in case the OP is put off them by this slight derail! Had a set on a Cort and they were rock solid for an entire gig as well as being light as a feather (as the name would suggest).
  19. I had one of these when I owned an acoustic guitar, great quality cases.
  20. A set of USA Hipshot Ultralites has just sold for £50 too, plenty of bargains knocking around.
  21. On here recently I've bought a pair of Nordstrand 5 string pups and a set of 5 Schaller tuners for the combined total of £120, there's been East preamps selling for under £100 and a Gotoh bridge on here at the moment for £40. No reason you can't put together a monster spec bass for £500-600 if you're patient, even less if you just want a basic Squier level neck and body.
  22. I like the interesting and varied angles of the tuners, perhaps he has had a cetain forum favourite eBayer install them for him on a commission basis? Also how is that low B staying in the nut, is it tuned to pitch then expoxied in?
  23. Oh and defret it too! 😁
  24. Use black nylon coated strings on an acoustic, sounds much better. Also ignore the poster who thinks you need special strings, that's nonsense.
  25. Gone, didn't expect it to last long. Anyone off here?
