  1. I should post a clip too... but I am very bad at it.. no good recording facilities, always a bit 'lost' for what to play without some context. But okay, I did a -test-run' and it sounds 'okay' (could be much better though, so plesase use your imagination) and I will share something next days. IMHO the the beautiful black thing has more to offer that what is been demonstrated. I have owned and still own quite a few high end basses, which include custom Fodera, Sadowsky, Ken Smith, Alleva Coppolo, vintage Fenders/Music Man, Spector USA, Xotic, Steinberger, Status etc etc and oh yes: Alembic, but no bass I owned or even even played has such a 'grande' full range presence and smooth playability. The string spacing is quite perfect for many I think, just a bit over 18mm on the low strings and a little less on the high strings: very ergonomic. But that one thing you cannot measure is there in full glory: how it feels and inspires to play. This is a true gem for the connaisseur. Alembic is not for everyone: some hate it, some love it. Everybody will agree it is something special.
  2. Hi! I have not... and I have no great recording set up.... i'm afraid it won't do the bass justice... but I can try something tomorrow
  3. Alembic Europe 5 in beautiful black and fantastic/hardly played condition. Europa electronics: 3 knobs and 3 switches. The knobs are: volume; pickup blend (pan) with center detente; and filter. The switches are: bass cut/flat/boost;treble cut/flat/boost; and Q on/off.
  4. It seems the configuration of this old modified bass is quite a bit like some of the newest Sadowsky's...;-)
  5. Thanks Cascanicoff! Both basses are great players. The amber one is a tiny bit more ‘scooped’ whereas the blue one is tiny bit more mid-focused with the outside pickups activated, which is a fair comparison. Maybe I should offer both for sale and see what happens... or I should keep both... anything goes!!
  6. It is. I sell it reluctantly.. really.. no sales talk.. I do so just because I have another 'oldie but goldie' which has quite a bit more playing wear etc. so I thought the blue beauty is the better one to offer for sale.
  7. I think it is a player more than a collector... in fact I would never buy a bass just to collect it...
  8. So, if you want EMG's changing pickups is quite easy.
  9. Can you share a picture of the pre-amp? These EMG's are most probably 'active pickups' so swapping them out for 'warmer' sounding ones means finding other active pickups or replacing the pre-amp too.
  10. Yes EMG size but original. I am the 2nd owner and I know the first owner who custom-ordered it like this.
  11. Selling this one is a tough decision really, in fact I would never have expected selling it, but times are changing for me and I am thinning the herd which leads to selling great basses that happen to be in the same sonic area as others I have. Up for sale is my fat, funky, Fender-ish Fodera VW Deluxe Custom 5 built in 2004. 35” (easy to play: no additional stretching compared to most 34” basses) Madascar Kingwood board Dove-tail maple neck Tiger maple front Mahogany body (I think) 4,5 kgs Seymour Duncan dual coils Dual action truss rod Etc. Some playing wear but overall in very good condition and technically 100%. Very solid bass, (low) action, string spacing (+/- 19mm) and neck curve anyway you like it. Comes with original hard shell case
  12. Here is a quite unique old Sadowsky J5. This beautiful light blue thing bas been played and modified but it remains to have that Sadowsky DNA all over the bass. Admitted, to some the adding of 2 ‘period correct’ Bartolini pickups may be an acquired taste but with a three way toggle switch per pickup it ads very musical tonal variations. The great early ‘94 maple neck, these necks are special really (Anderson?). The finish seems original to me, at some points it is becoming a bit greenish: same discoloring that happens with old blue Fenders. The neck seems to be refinished in a yellowish clear coating at some point. It’s done professionally. The pickguard seems custom made, don’t know by who. The bass has signs of playingwear all over but no abuse: generally speaking it looks pretty good. Most important is that it sounds and plays awesome, it is light (unchambered!) and well balanced. Other than mentioned modifications the bass seems 100% original. In the early nineties these Bartolini’s, Gotoh tuners and bridges were the ones that were used by Roger and they still work perfectly fine. The Gotoh bridge allows for afjusting the string spacing which I find to be a nice feature since I like the spacing to be just a little less than 19mm. The truss rod and the electronics work flawless as well and the frets have enough life in them for many years to come. The bass comes with an original Sadowsky soft case or Sadowsky gig bag.
  13. Pickguard = vintage No pickguard = standars
  14. Hi, nice old Smithy. It looks so glossy: is it a refin? Comes with a OHSC?
  15. Thanks Bokkie! I think they are: 'made in Germany' it says. The bass is 100% original and this is what Alembic used back then. Maybe they still do on their models, I don't know actually. Ido know I am the first owner and never changed a thing!
  16. Alembic Spoiler from 1989. Some specs: birds-eye maple top, mahogany body, 3 piece maple neck(through) with ebony board including OHSC. 32 inch, 2 truss rods, AXY pickups, Volume/Tone/Pickup selector, Alembic low pass filter with Q-switch, chrome Alembic GOTOH tuners, Brass bridge, just below 4kgs on my kitchen scale etc. This Spoiler has that unique Alembic sound: bright, full and dynamic, with a sweet flavour that comes with the years. I am the first owner (!) and chose this one over 3 other Alembics in the shop at the time and I played this bass from 1989 till about 1995. From then on it rested in it's case. It has been played but considering a 31 years old instrument it is in very, very good condition. Technically 100%.
