Driver, repairman, "what should i get for XYZ" advice-giver. Plus the one that recorded drum tracks for when our drummer broke his elbow. Oh and bassist, backing vocalist and part time drummer. Ya know, the cement of the house that is our band.

Just been looking for lessons on both bass and 6 string in my local area but alas, the good tutors of East Birmingham don't seem to have times or availability to fit around my current work hours so I'm looking online. I was earlier recommended Yousician by a friend who used it to learn his guitar basics and after downloading i was hit with a paywall about 20 minutes in. Anyone else used it and think the €15 or so a month price tag is justified? Are there better online alternatives?
(Doesn't look like a million bucks, but it sure sounds like it!)
See I think the Strat definitely has a certain look. The right colour combo and they're great to look at (like mine).

picked up my first guitar yesterday. Second Hand Squier Stratocaster from my YOB, in what fender call wine red (although it's so dark it could be seen as black unless you looked hard enough). Upgraded with USA electronics and Kent Armstrong Pickups, as well as unbranded locking tuners and straplocks (I have no idea which kind). Set me back £190 and they threw in a gig bag, strap and 2 sets of D'addario strings for an extra tenner. Guitar player for our band came with me and picked it out over an Epihone SG and newer Squier gear. Since 1.30 yesterday afternoon I think it's been out of my hands for about 7 hours and that was when i slept.

I think the genuine relic work looks good. I'd be more than happy to leave it as is

Sold my epiphone EB0 to Karl today. Comms were quick and very friendly and Karl is a top bloke. Would do business with him again without hesitation.

Small electric shocks from strings and bridge

And no I haven't been on the receiving end of some life-ending accident, although everyone's worrying has been reassuring or amusing, I'm undecided between the two. -
Small electric shocks from strings and bridge
Harryburke14 replied to Harryburke14's topic in Repairs and Technical
Sorted fellas, if I'm using the bass and charging the phone then don't touch both at the same time, or put them in the same extension block. Also bought a new actual Apple iPhone charger and a rubbery case for the phone so that there's no chance of a charger fault or being able to touch the aluminium casing of the phone. People at PMT sent the amp back to Ashdown and they've re-earthed it also. Combination of all of these things - no electric shocks since. -
I recommend the Fender Mustang series if you want a decent practice amp at home. They're pretty cheap and have a tonne of built in effects, headphone jack, USB etc.
Yeah I've seen them advertised and read some very favourable reviews on them. We will see. Very tempted to (if/when I get a few quid together) nip into PMT Birmingham and seeing what part-ex deals they'll do if I trade in my old epiphone bass (on sale on the forum marketplace at the minute). Otherwise, still keeping ears and eyes open.

Guitar test with Gibson firebird through all home amps I've got led to some clipping, so new amp too now. Looking more and more like starter pack zone.

It would be along the blues, classic rock and funk lines, definitely no metal. I've asked our guitarist to run one of his older guitars over so that we can see about sound. If no good, I'm more than happy to buy a little amp or something. The other idea I had was an amp simulator and use that into the bass amp to get closer to a proper guitar amp sound.

Ah. Potential stumbling point. I have read today that guitars can damage bass amps (and basses damage guitar amps). Does anyone have any knowledge on this? I always thought that bassists like Mike Kerr plugged into guitar amps no problem and guitarists into bass amps no problem (can't think off the top of my head). Seeing that all of the amps in the house are bass amps, would I need to get an amp too? That would then mean I start looking at starter sets as opposed to just a guitar...

***Now Sold*** It is with a heavy heart that I am looking to move on my very first instrument ever. Bought for me for my 13th birthday, this EB0 is the bass I learnt on and even played my first few gigs as a young man on (Liverpools Cavern Club included). That being said, it has since been taken over by newer, long scale basses and as a result has been sitting gathering dust for the best part of a year. And with me looking at taking up the 6 string guitar, the 1-in-1-out rule comes in. The bass is in good condition all things considered, with light wear to the hardware from dust and what-have you. There are some scratches to the neck plate though that must have come from a belt or something. It's been used and looks like it, but no damage to the paintwork, frets, or any of the wood. It also comes with a set of mostly unused Daddario strings that still look shiny. Also, a free fitted gig bag. According to the serial number, it was made in Indonesia in January of 2009. I've seen these go on EBay for upwards of the £80 mark, and seen them go for even more on some occasions. And at less than half of the RRP I'm sure it would be great for any SG-style or short scale fan or indeed any beginners (just as it served me for that purpose). ***IF YOUVE READ ALL THAT AND NOT NOTICED ITS SOLD THEN JUST A REMINDER ITS SOLD***
