  1. Absolutely love your cabling attention to detail, quite superb.
  2. +1 And ensure that you have 90 degree joints. The benefit of the battens is two fold, good 90 degree strong joints and additional strength for fixing feet screws into thin wall cabs. I'm confident that Phil has built quite a number of cabs so we avoid going through the same "learning curve" that Phil has experienced.
  3. Aside from the Spector branded official cases what suggestions do Spector owners have for a value for money case for a 35" scale Legend 5 Classic and Legend 4 TN?
  4. Double P would be my choice but reverse the bridge Pup. Just saying!!!!

  7. I built a 10ins combo cab with the speaker cab dimensions were similar to your target sizes. I used a Celestion neo 10" 300w 8ohm driver with no tweeter and tuned the cab to 50Hz. It sounds really good and compares quite favourably to my BF One10 which I subsequently sold. The combo cab had less coloration than the BF One10 but could match that Old School tone with some amp EQ settings. I think my contribution is around page 6 or 7 of the thread. I have previously used Beyma 12s in two Basschat builds I am sure those 10s you have will turn out fine. Good luck with your build.
  8. Reaching the 24th fret is about personal technique. I don't tend to venture that far up the dusty end but it is possible if you have the right lefthand stretch.
  9. So here's another that's joined the party. https://www.notreble.com/buzz/2021/08/06/phil-jones-bass-unveils-the-bp-200-bass-head/ I have a sneaky belief that all these 200W amps are produced by the same Far Eastern ODM and the brands are simply badge engineering the same platform. Sad really that the big corporate organisations are recycling a generic design instead of investing and developing at least their own front ends. Seems sustainable competitive advantage has been out sourced.
  10. So spent some time this morning A/B my latest acquisitions, a Spector Legend 4 TN and a Legend 5 Classic. The 4 TN has Aguilar DCB G3 Pups and Aguilar OBP-2 pre and the 5 Classic has Tone Pump Jr & Bartolini Pups. Using the stock strings and Zoom B1 Four into Fender Rumble 500 and Fender 1x12 cab. First observation was the higher output gain of the Tone Pump Jr over the OBP-2 there is quite a substantial step in output. The DCB G3 are much more polite than the Barts. Both are very clean & articulate, but the Barts just seem to have a bit more Grunt. The centre detent on the bass & treble controls of the OBP-2 is a welcome help to finding your starting point. The variety of tones from both basses is vast and offers a range that should appeal to a broad church of bassists. My initial conclusions are that I prefer the Tone Pump Jr & Bartolini Pups of the 5 Classic but the slinky fast neck of the 4 TN is an absolute dream to play for a 4 string. I wonder what a proper adult Tone Pump pre and EMGs would sound like in upgrading the 4 TN?????? Perhaps a project for next year???
  11. Congrats on securing such a Fantastic bass. I love the subtle, classic appearance.

  14. Mrs DaBass says that this Forum has got a lot to answer for. Two Basschat 1x12 cab builds One 1x10 combo build. Five Bitsa builds TOO many purchases following great reviews. Rehearsals twice a week. Bathroom needs painting. The main hedge needs cutting. You promised to paint the outside of the house this year. You go down the beach every day. You go down the pub three evenings a week. AND you go down the club to watch the rugby and don't get back until 11.00 Anyone else heard this 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪
  15. NBD Spector Legend 4 Neck Thru in Black Cherry. So I was very pleased with my recent purchase of my Spector Legend Classic 5 that I purchased a Spector Legend 4 Neck Thru in Black Cherry from the Jimmy Egypt site. It was one of the last basses of the previous Legend 4 NT range, it has Aguilar DCB G3 Pups and Aguilar OBP-2 pre. I searched for the older version because the latest Legend 4 NT is a P/J and as I already own a couple of P/J basses so I wanted soap bar Pups for a change. The bass arrived before 11.00 am the next after purchase and I am so pleased with bass the finish is superb the neck is slim and fast with a great range of tones on offer. Great bass. The really good news is that Mrs DaBass was out down the village when DHL delivered the bass, so it's currently hiding behind the door in my Study/music room. if she happens to notice a shinny bass on the stand with the others I will use my normal stock response of " I have had that for ages!! you don't pay much attention to my hobby". Happy Days!!

+1 The Tech21 VT Bass DI Deluxe is a versatile pre that offers Analogue flexibility. No fancy displays just use your ears to assign 6 tones to each of the preset footswitches. DI out for FOH and 2nd output jack for backline or powered monitor. Simples.
  17. A very versatile instrument , I love the simplicity of the 3 position switch selecting such a broad range of tones. Thanks for sharing. Lovely bass , money well spent methinks!
  18. Rock solid bass player with a simplistic style that was always there building the foundation of the band. RIP Dusty.
  19. With any Bitsa build there will be the need for a little gentle fettling. Unless you purchase matched components, eg Northwest Neck & body or Fender neck & Body. As an amateur I just find it easier to gently sand the neck rather than the body neck pocket. Clearly if you plan to "part out" the Bitsa at a later date one of the parts is not going to be absolutely standard. I believe there will always be some slight variations in the profile of neck ends and body neck pockets but getting them to fit and look good is all part of the Bitsa Building experience. It maybe worthwhile comparing the neck end and the body pocket profiles to a standard pickguard to see which is the closest. I have found that a good fitting pickguard can hide many poor neck/body joints 😂
  20. If the results of the rehearsal are positive, then I would be inclined to build a duplicate of what you have achieved and fit a tweeter switch to both. That way you will have 100% redundancy in the event of a cab failure. Normal use with 2 x cabs with only one tweeter switched on to avoid the issues already explained.
  21. @Happy Jack is there any neck dive? The head stock shape appears much longer than on my 2007 Gibson SG bass and my 1969 Gibson slot head EB3. Both are fine for me with a 3" leather strap but the longer headsock may suggest centre of gravity moving up the neck a tad.
  22. Make a paper template of the body neck pocket. Tape a sheet of paper on the body above the neck pocket and trace the body neck pocket. Carefully cut out the trace and stick it to the underside of the neck. Make sure you stick the tracing the RIGHT SIDE UP. Pencil mark the neck joint to depth of the neck pocket and take time gently sanding the neck down to match the tracing.
  23. Lovely instrument, while not a fan of green basses per se I really love the simplicity of the control setup. Neck Pup, P Pup & reverse P Pup seems so logical to tease out "step" changes in tone. Everything looks functional the 3 screw front jack socket, throughbody string option all "just enough" and no more. Looking forward to hearing sound clips. Congrats on your new member 🤣
  24. +1 Took the combo I posted previously on this thread to a band rehearsal in a smallish rehearsal studio last Friday and it had absolutely no problem at all keeping up with 2 loud guitarists, shed building drummer and keys. I was amazed how the little combo performed and I don't think my BF One10 would have been able to cope. Badge for Mr @stevie and Mr @Phil Starr please.
