  1. I know someone who still uses emagic Logic 5.5.1 on a Windows XP machine. (as a second DAW). Back in the day, Logic on a PC rocked all over Logic on a Mac. Stable, no crashes and brilliant, water tight Midi.
  2. The 2007 live in Burghausen concert, is great. It's up on Youtube.
  3. (you had to have been there).
  4. Yeah, I wasn't clear. I meant that as well. Just convert ikay's word doc.
  5. No meagre effort at all. ikay. Some folks are still operating in the paper, analogue world. You certainly would be helping them. But, yeah. iRealPro is great.
  6. It might be an idea if you can do a very in depth, detailed, extensive, review of each DAW for BC. It will save any future newbie having the brain freeze, indecisive grief you are having....
  7. Presonus Studio One is worth demoing. You get 30 days. It’s mostly drag and drop. One of the easiest to be up and running in no time. https://www.presonus.com/products/Studio-One
  8. Great album.
  9. I have been using Cubase since back in the 90's. The Steinberg key (Syncrosoft eLicenser) has never been an issue for me. I also store my VSL Libraries on it. It's just stuck in the back of the PC out of the way. I suppose, if you are using a laptop there could be possible breakage problems. Losing your licenses or damaging your eLicenser key is not much of a huge problem these days. Although this has not happened to me, I do know a couple of people who used the 'Zero Downtime' without a problem to retrieve/reinstall licenses. https://helpcenter.steinberg.de/hc/en-us/articles/206532304-Steinberg-Zero-Downtime (Cubase/Nuendo don't use iLok, so I can't comment on how that works for recovery, if indeed iLok do recover for you). At present, I have an assistant composer gig for about three months (virtual tea boy & Midi house keeping/score prep) with someone over in LA. This works through using Steinberg VST Connect Pro. As far as I know, there is no DAW other than Cubase/Nuendo using this system (it works a treat as well). https://www.steinberg.net/en/products/vst/vst_connect/vst_connect_pro.html
  10. Transcriptions turn up in this very 'General Discussions' forum as well, are all these to be removed unless cleared ? Talk Bass and many other musicians forums have Transcriptions & chord sheets on their sites, I wonder how they deal with it?
  11. Where does that leave all the transcriptions down in the Theory & Technique section? (Note for note lines with accurate chords and correct tune titles - PDF & links) Just curious really.
  12. The chord chart posted in the OP, isn’t totally correct. So you can’t really be done for copyright infringement. But yes, a good gesture. Top marks.
  13. Here you go - Bass builds nicely towards the end. (Great tune and a groovy arrangement).
  14. A couple for us ‘older’ groovers.... Rocco Prestia - Back To Oakland (Tower Of Power). Robert ‘Pops’ Popwell (recently deceased) - Those Southern Nights (The Crusaders).
  15. I understand what Ambient is saying and yes, 'Reaper' is great value for money. It's just different strokes for different folks. A DAW is more than just an engineering tool box, it is also traditional composing/sound design/game music software etc.... (A big list to choose from, Reaper, Digital Performer, Logic, Cubase/Nuendo, Studio One, Reason, Samplitude, plus a few more). Workflow, layout, video handling, notation, sound libraries available, drag & drop etc, all come into play. These days, all DAW software is up to the job. Most of the vendors offer 30 day unrestricted demos, try them all. What fits one person might not fit someone else.. If you are a novice & want to use midi, Reaper doesn't come with any sound libraries, you will have to buy third party, so the cost will start to mount up. But, saying that, there is plenty of free stuff out there that is very good and in some cases, excellent. (there are download links in this same recording forum).
  16. You should receive quarterly statements through the post, or a PDF attachment by Email for payments made. Like I said above, these should have been received a couple of days ago. d
  17. If you opted for paperless quarterly statements, you should have received those a couple of days ago. Payments went into bank accounts today. Well mine did.

  19. Haha...Brings back memories. In my youth at college I would do that with Brecker solos on a Sony Walkman (on Cassette tape). Not sure why though....
  20. Check out some of Chris Potter solo transcriptions on YouTube. Terrific transcriptions, great for chop practice.? Makes a change from the Parker Omni Book.
  21. Yeah, I agree with that as well.
  22. Absolutely. Any of those top Bassists from that era always give a nod to Jaco about being influenced in some way. I suppose, slightly contradicting myself, Marcus did go for a Jaco Fretless tone back then.
  23. I thought they both arrived about the same time? I know Marcus started doing low key (jingles & tv) sessions in 75/76 and Jaco with Weather Report about the same time, along with his solo album. Of course he had been recording with Pat Metheny a couple of years earlier. Marcus really started doing all the big stuff at the later part of the 70’s. No doubt though that Marcus already had his own style underway when Jaco joined Weather Report. I remember listening to Jaco before Marcus. The first album recordings of Marcus I heard were with Lenny White (1977/78). I should think that there were other ‘name’ recordings before that though (Hubert & Ronnie Laws spring to mind). I love both Jaco and Marcus and don’t really hear any similarities between the two. I have heard Marcus do some pretty decent Bebop solos, so not all slap and tickle. He played a lovely melodic, Fretless solo on Dave Grusin’s version of ‘Friends & Strangers’ in the late 70’s. Not that any of the above matters, or is correct of course. Just a friendly pub type chat about Bassists. Carry on.
  24. Blue Maqams by Anouar Brahem.
  25. Maybe he played the lower notes and got someone else to play the octaves. **
