  1. My boy has to connect to the internet once a month for Sphere.. If he doesn't, then the software would deactivate until he does, assuming he is paying his monthly direct debit. (a one off annual fee is slightly cheaper). As it happens, he is connected all the time, so there hasn't been any problems. So, I should imagine it 'phones home' once a month, probably on direct debit day, or just after. You could go down the crossgrade route for just ST1 5 Pro. On top of the usual crossgrade price, at the moment, there is an extra 25% off that for the next couple of days. About $225.00 for a digital download. You get sent serial number(s). (I've used this site many times over the years - It's legit, with no extras on top, or any long delays) JRRshop.com | Presonus Studio One 4 Professional Crossgrade $164.00 for the yearly 'Sphere' pass. With the current exchange rates at the moment, a very good deal. JRRshop.com | Presonus Sphere
  2. Two resources (if you are not already aware of them): 1) The official Cubase site with a shed load of information and tips. (27) Cubase - YouTube 2) One man and his songs: This site for the Cubase Groove Agent Drum Sampler/player (which looks daunting at first). 24 short videos. (27) Steinberg Groove Agent 5 Tutorial Ep #1 - Introduction - YouTube Also this one from the same guy for Groove Agent 5. (27) Groove Agents Tips Ep.01 - Choke Groups (or Pad Exclusive Groups) - YouTube He also has practical tips on Cubase to get you up and running. (27) Practical Cubase Guide Ep.01 - Introduction - YouTube If you run into any brick walls with Cubase, there are a few users on here who should be able to help you out. 👍
  3. Good grief...haha. 'Barbie The Musical'.
  4. One of my boys uses ST1 V5 (pro). VST is fine, just as it should be these days with any DAW, including VST3. My boy went down the 'Sphere' route. He was starting from scratch, not using upgrades etc... I must say, for just over £13 a month, you get an awful lot, including Notion 6 and all it's Instruments. That DAW really has come a long way very quickly. I've been messing with it for a couple of days, it has a great workflow with the super fast drag & drop. PreSonus Sphere | PreSonus
  5. Are you as smart as your Blue haired aunty?
  6. Haha... Bert Kaempfert with Ladi Geisler and the 'Knack Bass' at it's finest.! I do believe we (me and your dear self), nearly had an entire thread to ourselves on the subject... Knack Bass - Bert Kaempfert Orchestra - General Discussion - Basschat
  7. Terrific stuff, Peter..!! Love the playing, the arrangement and the very creative approach. 👍
  8. Open up your Profile page/click on share. When the window opens, copy the link and then just paste into your Basschat post. All your tracks will then be available as in Basslard's post. If you want just the one track, open up the track page and do the same, or just copy the address from the address bar.
  9. Rap, before 'dudes' wore their trousers around their ankles and wrapped themselves up in bling. The arrangement is credible and stands up (IMO, of course).
  10. I love Steve Lukather's sounds. Always gritty, tight and in your face (solos and chords). I hate that Guitar sound in the solo in Boogie Oogie Oogie. But oddly enough, the clean rhythm chords and the little funky single note lines (with what sounds like delay), I quite like. Maybe, that's a different player though.
  11. I dig some of the hair styles of players from the 1960's... The trouble was, you spent all your session fees on Hairstylists after the sessions though.
  12. Voted and well done everyone... 👍
  13. Hi there, Peter and welcome. Go to the YouTube video. 1) Click on share and a small window will open. 2) When the small window opens up, click on copy. 3) In your Basschat post, just paste in the copied link and it should open. 👍
  14. Yes, it's not bad at all, especially for a freebie. I got it a few months ago when they were pushing it over on 'VI-Control'. Unfortunately, I don't think there are any free licenses at the moment though. Which is a shame. EDIT: They are suggesting subscribing to their mailing list for possible more licenses in the future.
  15. If you would like to get stuck into 'Groove Agent 5'. (Any of the versions), this guy has put together a series of videos. Twenty Four in total..!! They vary in length, anywhere between 10 and 30 minutes long. It's a fantastic, in depth, Drum Sampler, but, it can be a bit difficult to get it fully under your belt. This series of videos is just what's needed and I can highly recommend the YouTube channel. 👍
  16. I do like most of the usual top Rock, Country and Fusion suspects, mainly because they have been around during my life Journey. But to be honest, I always get drawn back to the likes of Wes Montgomery, early George Benson, along with the great Flamenco and Classical players. I can quite easily listen to whole concerts on YouTube of these players with no problem. Pat Martino is a favourite of mine at the moment:
  17. I never particularly liked any of their music, but it's always very sad to hear things like this. No age really.
  18. Plenty of professional pit shows have extra keyboard parts on track. (clicks used, of course).
  19. Frank Zappa? Plenty there to get your ears into. Hans Zimmer - The Kraken?
  20. Blimey, what's not to like? It all sounds great to my lugs. Top stuff. 👍
  21. There is also the free Spitfire Labs 'Soft Piano'. It comes with it's own sample player and is really quite nice sounding. LABS — Soft Piano (spitfireaudio.com) Maybe try the Demo of the Air Piano that uses it's own player (So need for Kontakt). Review: Air Music tech Mini Grand : Ask.Audio AIR Music Technology - German-engineered virtual instruments, software, and effects
  22. 'Piano In Blue'... $99 (around £72) and my favourite (also always highly praised). Especially nice for anything Jazz related..!! Check out the demos. Great tone and very playable. Cinesamples - Piano in Blue | Columbia Records' historic Steinway D Concert Grand piano And on sale at $50, is the SSS Signature Grand. I use this a lot as well, it has ten dynamic layers and is very responsive. Signature Grand - Pianos - Virtual Instruments (simplesamsamples.com) EDIT: Sorry, apart from the Novel Piano for Halion, the other two would require Kontakt full version.
  23. Before you spend, or at least try as another Piano, give the Sonic Atoms free 'Novel Piano Sample Library' a whirl. It runs in Halion and is pretty good. You might be surprised. It plays very well. Download Link: Novel Piano - Sonic Atoms
