  1. For me, if you're the one setting up a band, you need to have the vision and know what you're aiming for. This just smacks of desperation, trying to appeal to everyone. It's the ad of someone who doesn't know what it is they want to play. I'd avoid, personally. There'll be a long march ahead before you arrive at a cohesive set with a stable lineup. Too much time will be wasted finding the true direction.
  2. He plays Jerry's fretless from about 45 minutes in
  3. I prefer Spock's Bass Lessons. Logically.
  4. That might have been the guy who did it in the first place, Sick Steve.
  5. I've seen the "You must log into Facebook" screen loads of times. I'm still not going to sign up 😁
  6. They look great, hearing them is the problem.
  7. You're welcome... I bid you welcome... 😁
  8. He was playing John Birch's basses in the mid to late 70's, then BC Rich, then Spector, then Vigier, then Lakland, that I know of. The famous Rickenbacker from the Never Say Die video was a loner and he hated it.
  9. Hopefully they're offering it in yellow, too. I have an irrational lust for a yellow Ironbird since seeing Johnny Rod wield one with WASP a long, long time ago. I don't think I need that haircut, though 😁
  10. I couldn't shake off the feckin Street Lightning idea so tried to make it work. Conspiracy theorists wearing tinfoil hats and attracting sky-based electrocution was the best I could do. Yeah, I know. There's always next month. The technical stuff: Yamaha drums heard by thomann mics and behringer preamps, as always. Bass is L2k, guitars are a Gretsch 12 string and an Ibanez RG. Some of it has wah, fuzz, univibe, delay and probably more fuzz and more delay for extra zap using a real Fryette amp DI'd into a Palmer speaker simulator. Organ is a free Avid thing. All smooshed together in protools.
  11. I think @Maude has one of the second one and @Dad3353 knows more than most when it comes to Hofners
  12. Piggy from Voivod played the guitar version of the Born To Rock design in the years before his death. He said he would never go back to playing a wooden guitar, though they didn't sound too different. The neck isn't loaded, that bar above carries the string tension so the neck remains completely stable. Very interesting design but a bit too expensive to take a gamble on without trying beforehand.
  13. Not according to anyone who understands and makes clones of it, like Carey Nordstrand 😉 "The 2B-MM preamp is a faithful reproduction of the original 2-band Music Man ® preamp. Like the original Music Man preamp, the bass control is boost only, and while the treble control is boost and cut, it does not have a center detent."
  14. It's all about the looks. They don't sound any different because of the shape, unless if there's a specific electronics package in there. Albert King didn't sound like Megadeth even though he played a Flying V.
  15. The 3-band is bass, mid, treble cut and boost and has detents.
  16. No. The bass control is boost only, it's only flat when turned all the way down. Anything above that is boosting the low frequencies. The treble is cut and boost, flat is somewhere in the middle of the travel. The thing people do with the 2-band model, where they turn all the knobs up full, is why the G disappears, it's not the pickup, never has been.
  17. The dot move is more likely to have been caused by the nut being in a different position or the fret inlays being a slightly different scale. We don't know that the fretboard replacement and the original dots getting filled in happened at the same time. Measure from the nut to the 12th "fret" inlay, is it exactly 17"? No-one rational would have the dots replaced if an aftermarket part didn't work out for them, they'd just put the original part back on. Besides, the Badass bridge is a drop-in replacement, already successfully installed on thousands and thousands of Fender types, and is adjustable, it is not the reason. EMGs have minuscule magnetic pull and are intended to be set up as close to the strings as possible without getting clattered by the strings due to your playing style, so it isn't them either.
  18. There are no short cuts to finger dexterity. Chromatic exercises, one finger per fret, will get you there, but you've got to do it and stick to doing it correctly. Keep your thumb in the middle of the neck, not hanging over the top. E 1-2-3-4 A 1-2-3-4 D 1-2-3-4 G 1-2-3-4 D 1-2-3-4 A 1-2-3-4 Repeat, repeat, repeat E 4-3-2-1 A 4-3-2-1 D 4-3-2-1 G 4-3-2-1 D 4-3-2-1 A 4-3-2-1 Repeat, repeat, repeat E 1-3-2-4 A 4-2-3-1 D 1-3-2-4 G 4-2-3-1 etc etc etc These are also great for getting your right hand fingering/plectrum strokes in shape. All downstrokes, no up, down, up, down, etc. Also, if you find it hard to have one finger per fret, perhaps cast a glance at your left wrist. It should be fairly straight, not contorted into a right angle. Adjust your strap length as necessary so your wrist, hand and fingers are all quite straight when fretting.
  19. Pass Me Turps
  20. A guy used to come to our gigs and scream for 'Hammer Smashed Face' every time. We never did covers but I was at other gigs he attended and seems he wanted every band to to play it. He must have really, really liked that song.
  21. 34" scale, graphite, 12" radius, Jazz-sized, 4-string neck with 24 small frets. Downsized J body made from a fancy looking, light coloured wood with 2x G&L MFD pickups. L2000 electronics with the active bit removed and a blend pot instead of the 3-way switch. A bridge made of metal. Sadowsky knobs. Elixir stainless steel 105-45 strings. Maybe the body is trans emerald green stain. Or purple. Or Orange. That'll do, pig, that'll do.
  22. I gigged with only one string before. You're all bourgeois swine.
  23. S8 serial is anywhere from 78 to early 80's. The hole the bridge pickup is sitting in is not original, so I wouldn't get too caught up in returning it to original state. That ship has sailed. If it were me, the neck dot situation would do my head in, so I'd be looking at getting the fretboard replaced, a new one fretted so the original dots are in the right place, get them refilled with black dots and I'd keep the bridge and the EMGs. They're better than what it left the factory with, IMO of course 🙂
  24. Often the free shipping ones are listed multiple times with different prices, some where shipping is not free. Look out for this, always check the seller's other items.
