1. ...and so another theological warfare thread begins
 2.
As the saying goes, "Anyone who hasn't had a Fender by the time they're 25 has no heart. Anyone who still has a Fender by the time they're 35 has no brain. And anyone who has a Hohner B2 has no head".
If we're talking about Bass Heaven - well, look unto the Good Book for guidance, wherein it is written in the Old Testament: "He who takes unto himself a Fender, yea even unto a 'previously cherished' Squier Badz Maru, is thrice-blessed by the Lord and shall sit upon His right hand for all eternity, yet he who worships at the Altar of The German Antichrist shall be cast screaming into the lake of fire where they shall roast until Judgment Day (and no inconsiderable time thereafter). So saith the Lord." Book of Rehoboam - Chap 8 vs 23
 3. Very weird image. My first thought was it was like a model, or something out of a doll's house. Because, if you had a doll's house, you'd have to put 4 huge (but tiny) cabs in it so Mummy and Daddy Doll could have a huge row... Then, my meds are running a bit low...
 4.
Sorry if I'm ranting like an old man
Fear not. I'm an old man and what you wrote was nothing like a rant. As for w*nky comments, never noticed any. But then I tend not to get into bands with t*ssers. You can spot 'em a mile off and take evasive action.
 5. Before this gets locked, I just want to know if the monk ran a kitten sanctuary. I'd definitely donate to that, as long as the kittens didn't have to sleep in traffic cones.
 6.
Ive never really been able to "get" DC. It doesnt help that the track of their we cover in the band does not require the use of the fretting hand throughout the entirety of the song (Hell Aint A Bad Place To Be), so I use it to drink a pint with during the song.
Bearing in mind which band we're talking about, I'm sure the song was deliberately written with that possibility in mind . Personally, I welcome any song in the set that enables one or both of my hands to have a little rest.
 7.
Have been in touch with Elixir about the Nano webs but thay can't tell me if they have any Nickle in them or if the coating will wear off (Doh)
Flipping Blimey - you think they'd know. FWIW, depending on how hard you play, the 'gore-tex' wrap eventually flakes off - but it takes a good while. Buy'em off the bay for max cheapness. Also, go have an allergy test done. And ask your Doctor if it's exczema. That's another possibility, which may have nowt to do with bass strings, etc...
 8.
for some reason i had it in my head that this was a strat, and had to re-read the OP to check it wasn't. it only occured to me afterwards that it wouldn't be in for sale: basses if it was a strat. i must be going crazy
Nah - not crazy. There was indeed a SS strat, and guitarists bang on relentlessly about them having 'Holy Grail Mojo' and ' Awesome Tone'. Which is why it probably popped into your mind (no offence intended). But if you're still worried you might be losing your mind, I have a sure fire but very secret test. Just send me £200 and I'll tell you what's involved.
 9. Finally bought this and was pleasantly surprised at how they've (finally) pushed their envelope a bit. More song variety, textures, counter-rhythms etc. And some nice bass lines. OK, it's a bunch of old Bobs doing their schtick for the 99th time, but much more adventurous than the last few albums. Whether it matches Back in Black or Highway to Hell is debatable, but give it time. For a bunch of blokes pushing 60, not bad. If you've heard it, what do you think?
 10. Well, if you like honesty...IMO you're not looking your best at the moment mate. Chill out - there's lots of good stuff here and lots of nice people. Give it another go...
 11. Can also be used as a giant bottle-opener.
 12.
Weller's frustration with Foxton's playing concerned feel and looseness
Weird that. First things you notice about Foxton's style are melodic structure and gnat's-chuff tightness. So if Weller wanted 'feel' and 'loose', why did he work with Foxton for so long? In reality, Foxton carried the songs - listen to the live recordings and Weller's guitar is basically blarting around on blocky chords - all the melody comes from the bass. ...and Foxton doubles (and harmonises) most of the vocals....almost to the extent that Weller's further back in the mix than F. No wonder 'From The Jam' sound...er...right
 13. Price varies - some people value them highly - £200 orhigher. OTOH, I've seen one at a car boot for £25.00
 14.
Dwarfcraft Devices distortion box
Imported from Middle-Earth?
 15. Informed opininininininon also has it that fuzz boxes sound good with dying batteries. Cue marketplace for semi-discharged 'vintage' batteries and arguments over whether Tesco's or Duracell have more 'Mojo'.

They retail for nearly £1300 in the shops... and this has a BIN of just under £500?
And about £80 shipping (cheap) + VAT + Customs duty (which adds the shipping cost to product value for levying purposes), handling fee from courier company for paying the duty and then the cost of a new transformer and tech to fit it...(120v it would appear) - just keeps ballooning. I've gone this sort of route, and it's worth doing the sums first... - but as they say, YMMV.
 17.
Looks like Sterling's been dodging the pies of late.
Blimey, I didn't know he was an old guy. (Like me). Oh, yeah, the bass. Meh. (Young person's word, I believe.)
 18.
angry chattering squirrels throwing nuts at a tin roof
Priceless. And true. That's why it's funny.
 19. IMHO, he's charitably given a home to some of the doggiest, sad-arsed, most butchered and angle-grinder-rip-saw bastardised instruments I've ever seen. And for this, he deserves our thanks. But not necessarily our money. That said, I just scrolled through his shop list today, and there are actually some interestingly bizarre offerings (actually in one piece) - just about 50% more than I'd want to pay....
 20. Can't believe no-one's mentioned the Ashbory - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashbory_bass and the truly worrying Roland G77 synth bass http://www.helpwantedproductions.com/G77.JPG
 21. The only bit that looks perhaps slightly wrong is the headstock - very, very clean. While we're speculating wildly (as ladies of our age are wont to do) may I posit the following scenario: *Bloke buys bass circa 30 years ago. Dings it, getting it out of the box. "B*gger", says he. *Plays it a bit; really likes it and goes out to buy 10 Woodbine to celebrate. *While daydreaming about marvellous new bass on way to corner shop, walks under bus and killed instantly. *Widow immediately puts bass under the bed where it remains untouched for years. *Widow croaks last week. *Executor now flogging it. See, problem solved and just as likely as any other explanation
