  1. Looks like the crowd funding didn't make it... https://www.gofundme.com/f/jack-songs-an-allstar-tribute-to-jack-bruce?utm_campaign=p_cp_display&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=customer
  2. The forgotten bridge grounding is a myth. All the basses I had to fully shield, and we are speaking hundreds if not thousands, all had a grounded bridge and a theoretically perfect ground continuity... The only way to solve this typical Fender (and relatives 😉 ) issue is to do a perfect shielding with all cavities linked to have a total continuity. The graphite paint or so called copper paint is not working at all, which is explained by the poor conductivity of the paint (check with a meter if you don't believe me) and the lack of links between the cavities. I've been telling that Faraday principle for years and I'm glad someone else is also "telling" it.
  3. I've just fitted this Noctua model in my Markbass Combo 121 Lite Alain Caron and it's working flawlessly : https://www.amazon.co.uk/Noctua-NF-A6x25-FLX-Premium-Quiet/dp/B009LEKGGE/ It comes with all the adaptors needed, but you'll have to use the 3 to 4 one and transfer the black and white wires to the Markbass connector, nothing extraordinary to do with a decent soldering iron. I've used the Ultra Low Noise Adaptor to reduce the fan noise by 18 dB !!! compared to the stock Markbass fan. Here are the measurements made 5 centimetres away from the fan to get useable measurements, so the measured noise is not correct as it's way too close. 1. Markbass original fan (already quiet Fonsoning) : 2. Noctua at maximum speed (no Ultra Low Noise Adaptor) : 3. Noctua at minimum speed (with Ultra Low Noise Adaptor) : This is the original fan :
  4. The Precision bass is the epitome of the single pickup bass and simplicity, so yes it's all and everything you can get, or switch to its evolution (Music Man or G&L). It will be hard to beat, indeed.
  5. Nope, it's a 30.5 inches scale. https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_beatbass.htm
  6. Thanks Macca. 😉
  7. Compared to a Fender, it was cheap at around one third of their selling prices. Using an official inflation calculator (Bank of England), these mid April 1962 £30 GBP are worth today, mid January, roughly £700 GBP, which is certainly closer to the reality as an USA Fender bass is roughly costing £1500 GBP and was announced at £100 GBP mid April 1962, but according to the same inflation calculator, it now makes a rough £2300 GBP simply showing that instruments nowadays are way cheaper than in the 60's. So this Höfner was definitely a cheap bass back in the day and is sold today at least 4 times what it should really cost !!! Thanks Macca. 😉
  8. Maruszczyk and Messinger have their own affordable custom shop. Here is their configurator : https://www.public-peace.de/custom-shop Don't forget to check the luthiers, they are not always ultra expensive.
  9. @k-sad has one IIRC.
  10. And the original American MusicMan SUB's were passive.
  11. Here's all you can get by Thomann, use their filters... https://www.thomann.de/gb/misc_4_string_basses.html?feature-45023[]=H&feature-8509[]=Passive&oa=pra&gk=GIEBS4&filter=true And short scale basses too : https://www.thomann.de/gb/short_scale_basses.html?feature-45072[]=H&feature-45072[]=J&feature-45072[]=S&feature-45073[]=Passive&oa=pra&gk=GIEBSC&filter=true
  12. MusicMan SUB or OLP. And many luthiers basses.
  13. @Clarky is right, it's chrome hardware on both basses, so maybe it's Alan Davey's former Ric.
  14. Download this, it's a kind of bass wiring bible, it's in German, but the diagrams are universal : http://www.ak-line.com/medium/Bassschaltungen.pdf
  15. No, it's not, the Dual series are dual channels (or twin channels) with mono output, so here a 1400 Watts output under 4 Ohms. https://www.grbass.com/portfolio/dual-1400/
  16. Following too. Hey Nick, remember that Brian May's home made guitar has an oak neck, which is supposed to be a sonically dead wood, so we might have another good surprise here with Ben's build.

    What happened?

I found an old photo of my (El) Maya taken in November 1985 as an exercise for an imaginary album cover. Now calling @Bassassin to tell us exactly what model it was.
  18. Do you still have windows and doors ?
  19. Why did I sell my Wal for peanuts in the 90's, why, oh, why ? 🤦‍♂️ Just as @dyerseve, I usually don't like black basses and fivers, but this one is just haunting, and not only me, apparently. GLWYFS.
  20. The LED's are really powerful, don't stare at them, Russ. That's the only "grief" I could find, the rest is excellent and the tuner is useable with a sixer, even if a bit slow compared to a Peterson or a TC Electronic, but nothing to really worry about. You will love this head, for sure !
  21. The Boss GT-1B ticks all the boxes and is cheap : https://www.thomann.de/gb/boss_gt_1b_bass_multi_fx_pedal.htm That said, if you don't need an expression pedal and that you can forget the headphones out, these 3 other "strips" can be what you're looking for : Valeton Dapper Bass Effect Strip : https://www.thomann.de/gb/valeton_dapper_bass_effect_strip.htm Tech 21 Bass Fly Rig V2 : https://www.thomann.de/gb/tech_21_bass_fly_rig_v2.htm TC Electronic Plethora X5 : https://www.thomann.de/gb/tc_electronic_plethora_x5.htm But as others said, keeping the Headrush and explore it might be the best idea.
  22. Thanks @ianrendall : I found that my Aria Diamond bought in the 80's was called the 1930. I binned it in the 90's, but still have the tailpiece with the wooden insert and the mother of toilet seat diamond on it. 🤦‍♂️
  23. I prefer the Glue Monday.
  24. The strings changing is really fast and clever on the Le Fay as it's a self locking system (without any locking device). Check this : That said, on the Bogart basses, the tuning keys are used as a locking device, which is very clever too. 😉
  25. I think they need one of my packing masterclasses. So, their motto is : Take the money and don't give a sh*t. Awful !
