  1. That does sound very cool!
  2. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FENDER-SQUIER-PRECISION-BASS/222850080938?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 Very nice Fiesta Red CV Squier, price seems a little high to me though.. He's right in that they are sought after, I'd love one, but not sure I'd part with £350 for one.
  3. Ah ha! Eureka moment! It seems lined Basses (granted I only did a quick google images search) also have dots in the position where you'd find them on a fretted Bass. To me having both seems confusing, I think I'd be going for the dots and therefore be out of tune. Whereas Unlined just have the side dots in the fret line position. Seems to make more sense, to me anyway, I think I can see which way this is now going.....
  4. Indeed, this seems to be the case, it's proper 50/50 so far. Maybe I'll pickup one of the Thomann HB jaco-alikes and see what I think.. My only dilemma is I've seen an unlined ESP/LTD fretless PJ on Gumtree nearby which I think is a bit of a steal. Plus it's got a proper precision sized neck/nut and a PJ layout on a rather nice looking body. One of these: Can only really afford to get one or the other right now, hmmmmm...
  5. As the title says, I’m looking to buy my first fretless, just to have one in the armoury as it were. It seems to me that having a lined neck would make it easier for someone who’s never played fretless before... What’s the general consensus on this?
  6. Indeed, plus both together should sound monstrous!
  7. Congratulations, Lovely Story and a Super cool Bass. Did you play 'Wherever I lay may hat' first?
  8. When I saw the pic of the 3 configurations you were thinking about, this was the one I thought you should go for...
  9. First, make sure the neck relief is where you want it before doing anything, as a little more relief in the neck will raise the action at the nut. If there's nothing to be gained by adjusting the Truss rod, there's a few well known bodges for filling and re-cutting nut slots (just search youtube), but the only real clean fix is to replace the nut. I will say if you need to raise it by 1mm, it must be cut very very low....
  10. Being such a 'one-off' Bass, I think some sound clips might very well help with the sale. Very cool looker, GLWTS anyway...
  11. Recently some better shops have opened up in the South Wales Area, but before that it was dreadful. We got a PMT in Cardiff City Centre, and I hear good things about 'A Strings' which is in Pontypridd. Before that we had the ridiculously overpriced Cranes in Cardiff/Swansea (now closed), and Gamlins is still there in Cardiff, but they're not the most 'interested' bunch really. Also GM Music in Cardiff where you literally cannot swing a cat.
  12. No I still have it, just stopped bumping as it wasn't getting much love at the time. I have since had the neck pickup cover signed by the man himself too...
  13. Subscribed - Looking for a cheap fretless to dip my toe as well.....
  14. Congrats, Very nice! Nice gig too ( I assume it's a Dusty Springfield tribute)..
  15. Lucky you! These are like Rocking horse poo these days.....
  16. I'm glad this isn't a Fretted Version. My Mrs would be very upset with me! Lovely Bass, GLWTS.
  17. Indeed, it's nice if it sounds good on-stage, but as long as FOH sounds good, all that really matters is you can hear yourself..
  18. In the covers band, it's our own PA which I'm charged with setting up/operating, so that's nice and easy. More difficult in my originals band, I still use the Helix, but we're the same as you, sometimes there's only time for a line check so I can't use my in-ears. In that case I'll normally ask for a wedge mix. If I can't have that, I'll make do with whatever is bleeding back from the Rig / stage sound..
  19. I would expect the main differences to be the weight and neck dimensions. MY PB50 is quite heavy (don't know the exact weight sorry), and the necks are very chunky. I like that about it mind you. I'd expect the squier to have a modern C neck and be lighter... But I could be completely wrong!
  20. In-ears fed from the PA, I have a full band mix, with my vocal and the bass louder than they should be. Love it!
  21. Helix LT is what I use, no complaints! I don't need the extra ins/outs that the Full Helix has, and don't need the scribble strips or a separate headphone volume. There's not much more missing from the LT vs Full Helix.
  22. My thoughts exactly Russ. Not a cheap solution, but good grief, it really works! I don't even have an amp on stage any more, Bass-Helix-PA, in-ears for monitoring.
  23. I'm particularly impressed with the neck tint. Would you mind sharing how you've done that?
  24. Amazing work Discreet! Every time I look over my guitar rack and see the PB-50 there, I think about the ones you've done and how I really should do something similar.....mine has the Wilkinson Pickup in it so I'm not sure I'd need to replace that.. I've even got the headstock re-shaping template...hmmmm..
  25. Haha, another plus for these then! The list goes on! But I don't need one, really I don't.... Will Karlfer be able to resist though, I wonder! I've a feeling these might be right up his street.....
