1.
All gear except ur bass is provided. Just turn up, plug in and go! The onboard techs are great and u rarely have to soundcheck as it's pretty much the same gigs every week!
on board techs? Like the sound of that!
2. Over the tears I've aquired so many leads - all different types. When gigging I'm wireless, so the only ones I actually use are my OBBM guitar leads to connect my multi fx and a XLR for the cabs. If I don't take 2 basses, I'll take a spare set of strings (played in for the same reasons mentioned by ezbass) a spare strap, my batwing guitar stand and a spare of each cable type. I always have spare 9v batteries, but will be screwed if the multi fx packs up. It's a ME50B and I've no reason to expect it will, but I might invest in a cheap DI - just in case.
3. How did the gear thing work? What did you have to supply? I assume gear maintenance was down to yourselves?
4.
A must for any south wales jazzers! Laurence Cottle Big Band at swansea jazzland, insanly tight bigband! Theres some great stuff at http://laurencecottle.com/listen/
Laurence Cottle rules! Black Sabbath on a thread about Jazz?
5. I mean things like leads, XLR cables, 4 way plug extentions etc. Is the rule 'one of everything and a spare' good enough? Or do you take more, for example if you use 3 guitar leads do you need to take 3 spares?
6. woof-woof!
7. When I was younger and my reading was up to speed, I'd see the adverts for basses players wanted on the cruise liners. I considered it but never did it. What did I miss? Has anyone here done it?
8. What are the Axe basses like to play? I mean in terms of weight and balance?
9.
Sorry Rhys, the Hamer Impact is a VERY rare model & it took me years to find one at a good price. It won't be leaving me anytime soon
plus i've already got dibs!
10. If I might make a suggestion for an event? How about a set up master class. The idea being someone (who knows what they are doing ) stands at the front with a bass and goes through a set up, and teaches everyone else who all have their own bass in front of them. Everyone could bring there own tools to suit their bass, if the same someone could let it be known beforehand what would be needed?
11.
I've been wanting one of these ever since I got hold of Live After Death and saw the photos of Steve with his. After 24, or so, years mine arrived today.
I'm not using that Courier! Sweet, is there a difference in weight to other P's?
12.
plus the one on the behringer - does the job.
there's a link somewhere to a guy ABing a Sansamp with the Behringer. The difference in sound is negligable or not noticeable. IMO. YMMV.
13.
For reasonably cheap and cheerful active DI boxes you could look at the Samson S-Direct or the Behringer DI100 Andy
beat me to it on the Behringer.
14.
London is a very expensive place to live, shop and even pay for a bus fare, but that's because our stores are afflicted by a very high cost for the rent for their premises, licenses etc, all these overheads are items which an internet outlet is not subject to. Hence internet killed the shop star!
this to me, seems to be the problem that is overlooked. The internet is blamed but the high rents are accepted? Why aren't the landlords who charge these high rents blamed for creating/maintaining a situation where the businesses that pay them can't afford to be competitive? The subtext of every argument that we should buy from stores that can't compete with internet prices, is that we should line the pockets of greedy landlords. In Camden there are campaigns against the chains moving in and undercutting the independent businesses who can't afford to compete because of the high rents. No-one seems to be campaigning against the high rents.
15.
OK so I'm gonna be hitting Denmark Street for the first time in May...
What used to be Andy's Music is now Music Ground. Andrew Preston former owner of Andy's still works there. I took him to court when he [s]stole [/s]sold my amp on sale or return, and didn't give me the money. I didn't get anything because he eventually declared bancruptcy. I still have the debtors list from the official receiver, it contains lots of punters like me, who had items [s]stolen [/s]sold and never got their money. Have a look around by all means, but possibly one to avoid doing business with.
16. Is it wrong that I think that is absolutely awesome?

Myself and steviedee had a bit of an effects trade. Excellent communication through out, product well packed and as described. Can heartily recommend edited to correct dodgy spelling.
18. can't believe I've just seen this thread! I have a Hamer Blitz - Explorer type shape - it's a beast, and IMO cool as the proverbial. Yours is looking sweet, can't wait to see it finished.
19. come on guys, more pics needed!
20.

oh yes
21. has anyone gigged these cabs yet?
22.
Yes but with all due respect, people pay in to a gig to hear and see live music.. not tricks or party pieces.
that's the point though isn't it? there isn't any music happening - guitarists tuning etc - so it's all about keeping the punters entertained and trying not to lose the momentum.
23. when I was teaching, I used to encourage and work on little tricks and party pieces, so that during a gig if there was such a gap then step forward the bass player and entertain the crowd for 30 seconds or so. As I was working with rock/metal bassists it worked quite well.
24. Everyone remember to take lots of pics!
25. The Hamer, the Rex, and as you have 2 one of the Axe basses please
