  1. I think it would be very advantageous to have running in parallel to BC, even sharing content, so I can get my bass fix more passively. It is very easy for me to sit and listen to a podcast while driving Excel or writing a paper, whereas I feel guilty if at work I spend more than a few minutes here and there on the forum. But, I love to dig in to the forum for more details, which are also google-able/searchable, when I have more time. I would definitely listen to a weekly summary of the compressor thread for example, maybe with some clips. Or, the Top 3 NBD/NAD/NCD threads. Or rig rundowns, again with clips. If something takes my fancy, I dive in to the BC forum to check it out, in addition to my standard visits.
  2. Rather than starting a thread from scratch... Did anyone get one of these, and get on with it? Didn't catch my attention first time round, but it seems quite interesting.
  3. The fact that it has an inny and an outy for power? I have actually needed to use that a few times, but I don't know how common a feature it is with non-Boss pedals... I see your point completely though - I rather just surprised myself with the selfdoublebluff of the joke suggestion turning out to be maybe the only must-have pedal I own! Edit - seems lots of tuners have ins and outs... Still, I won't be buying a different tuner until it breaks and then I probably buy another one, so it won't be leaving my board - I'm sticking to my answer!
  4. TU-3 I typed that slightly tongue in cheek to begin with, but actually, thinking about it, it's truly the only pedal I would be uncomfortable performing without!
  5. I barely had time to photograph it, never mind upload pictures last night, it's too good... However, now I am at work I will be sure to take some better composed images at some point soon to show off how well this has been put together, but for today this will have to do. As you can see, it is bog standard, apart from some extra feet and a rotated badge to allow for portrait and landscape (default) orientation. 12 mm ply, and ceramic magnets in case anyone was wondering. An easy carry (scurry!) from the post office to home!
  6. Oh man, this is good... I know there are many who sing the praises of tks on here, but I'm over the moon. All the cliched words apply - punchy, articulate, clarity, reactive, rich, sweet... I have read that these 1x12s can be a bit lacking in bass, but at loud home volumes with rounds on a jazz and flats on a P, it sounds mega full. Flipping loud too - I'm running a Eden 260 through it, and it packs a real wallop. Rear ported, metal grilled front, recessed cable inputs, immaculately finished, very nice, thick soft case. Many happy hours to be had with this - heartily recommended...
  7. I rate Hotrods a lot - we got some for our drummer who was torn between wanting to play how he wanted, but was aware enough to know that sometimes less is more. Took him a couple of sessions to get used to, but it made a big difference to the sound and also the vibe - he could still leather the kit so not feel constrained/like he was holding back, and therefore keep his 'style' without the headaches. Worth a try for sure.
  8. I get to pick up my freshly baked S112 from TKS today... It was available on Friday, but national holidays and a Sunday has meant I have had to wait... I said "I would like a cab please" on the 27th of April, which means it was 3 weeks dead from first contact to delivery. Not bad for a cab made just for me, considering May is awful/amazing for free days in Scandinavia. Photos to come, but I had to post something in an attempt to make it through the working day!
  9. I agree - I got a fretless Deko, and it's absolutely fine.
  10. I thought 2 was quite woolly but I liked it the most, 4 was the most modern and articulate (best for the mix? Depending on the mix yada yada), 3 was in between, and 1 sounded like rubber bands. I believe electronics have a larger influence than wood on the sound of electric instruments, so I guess 2 is the alnico and maple, and 3 and 4 are the Ibby or the ceramics. Which means that it's most likely the Yamaha I don't rate, which surprises me. Looking forward to the results...
  11. Love the name - are you a geologist or a fan of Italian mountains...?
  12. The T in TKS, unless I am missing something He is the one replying to me, which I think is pretty neat.
  13. Literally 2 hours ago, I ordered an S112 direct from Tommy, with the extra feet, a speakon-speakon cable and a padded TKS cover, couriered to my front door, for SIGNIFICANTLY less than half that...
  14. Failed Imagineer, Propagandhi. That bass run in the middle eight has some wonderfully selected notes.
  15. My Sandberg Umbo is relatively wide for a jazz - online stats say 39mm, but it isn't, more like 40 and a smidge. This is still no where near a precision, if that is what you are after, but thought it worth a mention... Maybe signature basses are worth looking at in general, as they are more likely to be non-standard issue?
  16. That DC8 has been the star of quite a few threads in the last 12 months. It's outputs, as far as I can tell, are not strictly isolated - rather the 6 lower ones are together isolated from the 2 higher. That said, I am still very pleased with mine and haven't had any issues other than needing to tape over the LED, which is thermonuclear in its brightness.
  17. At the risk of fulfilling Skol's prophecy... Computer to do the recording - Check. See above for comments re. decent monitoring. Software - Check-ish. I use Ableton live-lite, but it only allows for 8 tracks in one project. This is fine for me, as I send parts I record elsewhere, but it could be a limiting factor. Interface - I like the Scarlett stuff. I would recommend getting one with the most channel inputs you can afford, as this gives you the most flexibility and makes your recording efficient i.e. play once, get multiple tracks. I like to record the instrument direct (out of the amp, DI or e.g. LS2), at least one cab mic and sometimes a room mic, so that is 3 if not 4 inputs. It only takes a few minutes to set each mic up, and you greatly increase your 'productivity', even if you end up never using that particular track. Mics - if you are not recording a guitar directly, you need to mic it's speaker, obviously. Can of worms time, but I have heard tell that budget mics aren't that much worse than mid range mics, and that you have to fork out a tonne before you really hear the benefits. SM 58/57s are a standard for a reason IMO. I also use an AKG112. They aren't too expensive, especially second hand. Just jump in to it and learn by doing, it is pretty fun! A fine way to spend an afternoon...
  18. We are a little strapped for choice down there eh... https://classicandcoolguitars.co.uk/basses-for-sale/ This guy is happy for visits when I spoke to him last, and you could do worse than getting a Limelight. I was seriously considering one for a while, but went cheap in the end. Otherwise... London Is yours the red one on MM by the way...? Edit - Sorry, and in response to your question...! If you are only using a neck pickup with medium Tone, it sounds like you want a Precision.
  19. These are the tips I would have given. I'm not going to change the world with my singing, but can hold a tune and am happy enough doing backing vocals if the lead singer is good. I struggle the most if my monitoring is bad and/or the other singer is wonky; I can get dragged off key if so. I have also done lead a few times, and the first line of each song is always the hardest - once it's underway I settle in to it. Sometimes, if volume levels allow, I even sing the first bar to myself one early, so I know my pitch is set. Singing at volume is also much easier than singing in the living room - notes are much more attainable, and my voice thickens up. I have heard tilting your head up slightly helps open everything up too, so I ensure my mic is nice and high.
  20. D'Addario do short scale Chromes as well - the ECB81S. I bought them online in error once, but chucked them on a shorty P bass and they sound great! Subtle of course but with a nice voicing, not just a dull whump. Dunno how well they would fit a 25" scale though... That's 5 inches shorter than my short scale, and I don't remember having loads of excess silk before the pegs.
  21. Fat Mike from NOFX is the only one I listen to regularly that hasn't yet been mentioned. I think the guy from Less Than Jake shared lead vocals. Have we had Troy Sanders? Does Prince count?
  22. I have a Nano POG and had a US600 (actually to add a 5th to the octave up). I found the US600 didn't play nicely with power, was noisy, didn't always have great tracking and had a fairly unpleasant (to my ears) tone, and I say this as someone who likes some Behringer stuff. EHX Pitchfork is an alternative, I think Mooer do some too (was it the Tender that was a bit too close for EHX's liking?). Or... DigiTech Whammy?
  23. You're very welcome, and what a great price!! I was reminded when I saw it yesterday that it seems to have a nuclear powered LED - nothing a bit of tape doesn't solve. Hopes it fits the bill for you!
  24. A bunch of us tried the Fame or Vitoos DC8 a while back. I have had no issues with it after a few gigs and practices, nor have I heard any complaints. Very well specced, and the housing itself is rather small (indeed, the cables coming out seem to take up as much room!). Mine was £50 posted for the Vitoos version.
  25. Cue guffaws, twirling of moustaches, brandishing of cigars and quaffing of brandy A good point to consider for sure... Banging playing in any case.
