What a great collection of basses in this thread. I cant believe i haven't posted in here yet. Although i dont own them any more all my Lakland's have been great, and i will own another one day. I'd love to know who has these now. Ive seen the 55-01 on here recently but lost track of the DJ and DD's (ive had two, or three including one i did send back to Thomanns)

I think seeing yourself perform can be a real eye opener. I hate seeing me play (i tend to stand there looking bored a lot of the time) but thankfully we dont get many gigs videoed. It does give em food for thought and i do try a bit more to move around but sometimes when the audience are just sitting there (social clubs) its difficult to feel motivated. We do audio record almost every gig though, and the bass is always prominent, although it never seems like that at the gigs. We strap a digital recorder to the singers mic stand and this gets us a pretty decent recording. This really helps me as i can hear what i played, and keeps me on my toes as i know the rest of the band will hear it.

This looks great. It might be the answer im looking for in my gig bag thread (other than the price). Ill have to have a look in to this bag but for what its worth ive laid my bass down on various surfaces, i dont really think about it too much but i do tend not to like leaning it against things that might get bumped, causing the bass to fall. Saying that i do tend to stand the gig bag upright to un zip it most of the time but i have taken the bass out on its side many times as well.

Bugger, can't believe I spelt it wrong after all this time. The Matt Freeman would be my choice if buying again. Love the maple necks.

Probably worth using the search function as there are loads of threads about the Squires. For what its worth i love my CV's and cant see me needing to replace them at any time in the near future. I wish the CV came in the same finish as the Affinity, i hate the CVP colours.
I'm sure you'll be fine appearance wise - apart from a couple of places our audience isn't yet entirely made up of be-quiffed pyschobillies!
I was talking more about the fact that I like to go to gigs naked lol. Stu, spot on. Another situation where any old camera won't do. I get the feeling those flashes going off are people using their cameras on full auto, rather than purposely.

Nice one. The Shoreditch is within walking distance for me so ill aim for that. Any week days are fine (as things stand at the moment) so ill keep an eye out for date changes. Looking forward to it, although i think ill stick out like a sore thumb lol.

Definitly the right way to shoot a band. I can't believe people use flash at gigs. Pointless and if anything it desstroys the atmosphere. You gigs always look so exciting. Not many bands seem to make the effort these days. I guess the image fits the music. I'd love to shoot you guys if you play in my neck of the woods. In fact if anyone is gigging in central london or just outside it I'd be happy to come along and try my hand at gig photography. Free of course. EDIT: Oops, typo in first word. Corrected.
Hi, i have one for sale: http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry1493863 more pictures via mail!
Probably worth reading the thread (or at least the title) rather than just posting indiscriminately. -
Looking for a gig bag with full length shoulder strap
dave_bass5 replied to dave_bass5's topic in Accessories and Misc
Thanks Dr M. Ive had one and while it did indeed hang low it was quite painful to wear, as the metal clasp sits right on the shoulder bone. Heres the one i have (excuse the stupid look, im not used to having my pic taken). -
Under what circumstances would you leave negative feedback??
dave_bass5 replied to TheGreek's topic in Site News
Sorry guys. If no transaction has taken place, no feedback can be left. A deal is not done until it is done. Timewasting happens and It has happened to me many times at the cost of selling a bass. Deal with it, its part of using internet classifieds.
Perfect answer and the way I read the first post it was the seller who pulled out, should the other party who was told it would be on hold and was (probably) trying to raise the money also leave feedback? I understand the reason foasking with another buyer but not being able to come up with the funds to buy something doesnt warrant bad feedback IMO. One was messed about and one was let down. -
I'm really in to black strings on a maple neck at the moment but still not a lot of love for the black blocks.
-
Oh well, I think I'll flog the strings. I'm really not enjoying them as much as my Black Beauties. There just seems to be some mid presence or thump missing. They are great for the rockier stuff but not quite as good fr the older Motown/ sixties stuff.
-
Tonight wil be my second gig with mine. I've been enjoying the feel of them and quite like the tone at home, so tonight is make or break. Either I'll keep them on or sell them to help fund some DR's.
-
Oh dear, i really shouldn't have looked at that video. Black and Maple looks soooo tempting, and the narrower neck is the icing on the cake. If i hadn't just spent the same amount on a new AV receiver id be ordering one today.

Looking for a gig bag with full length shoulder strap
dave_bass5 replied to dave_bass5's topic in Accessories and Misc
Thanks NJE, ill look in to those. i have heard of them before but each time ive looked at the pics on line ive not been able to figure out how low it sits. I had forgotten about this thread so apologies for not getting any pics up yet. ill do it this weekend. For what it worth i checked my bag and although i said the strap runs all the way to to the top it doesn't, it stops about where the headstock starts. Dave, im with you on the bouncing back bit, thats why ive always used this case not matter how much the bass is worth (and as ive said, ive had absolutely no issues with basses getting damaged). -
Is this from the Classic Albums TV series or something else? Great clip though, very interesting.
-
The CV's are better IMO and there are plenty of owners/threads about these basses on here. Both have a good rep.

Class D. Going back to the traditional ways now...
dave_bass5 replied to Clarky72's topic in General Discussion
When i tried to break away from MarkBass i got a GK 1001-RBII. I hated it. I felt compared to the SA450 it sounded thin, lacked the punch i was used to and seemed to need pushing to get the volume i was used to (and the GK is rated slightly higher). This obviously has nothing to do with class D amps as neither have them, its just down to different tones for whatever reason. If you like the GK tone then the cleaner, more polite GB tone is the issue, not the power stage IMO. -
Take a look at Transcribe (seventhstring.com) - drag and drop from iTunes, change key, tempo etc. I have found it useful. I think there is a free version too.
Thanks for the heads up. I just had a look at Transcribe, it looks pretty good and easier to use than opening up Audition. I also find Guitar Pro a great way of leaning songs, assuming i can get decent versions of them to work from. Ive used many apps over the years but always seem to come back to using big programs to do the smallest of jobs. I think i just prefer not to have duplicate programs on my PC so if the big one does the job i tend to use that, even if its more cumbersome. Stupid i know. I must admit when i learn a song i learn the notes, not the chords. This might be the wrong way of doing things but ive always done it and it works for me. If someone was to ask me the chords of most of the songs we play i doubt i could tell them. I know the notes im playing, and im guessing i could work out the chords from those.
-
I tend to do it the hard way and make new versions of the songs in Audition as i tend to use iTunes to play most of my music (its all kept in iTunes match) A few years ago i was in two very similar bands doing very similar sets, but it quite different keys. I found it easier to get a 5 string and just transpose the fingering. Not ideal and a bit extreme but it worked for me, and gave me an excuse to buy a 5 string.

The Fender American Standard Precision 5 String
dave_bass5 replied to Schnozzalee's topic in Bass Guitars
I had one a few years ago. It was a very nice bass, sounded just like a P bass (naturally) should and the B string sounded fine IMO. I did find the neck a bit slower than my Lakland's, that's just personal taste though. I would love another although id be more tempted to look at the 5 sting Lakland P first. -
And vocalists? How often do they get the praise they deserve, eh?
We keep em alive, thats enough thanks considering ;-)
Ouch
Just kidding mate. I think Ped kept you off the list because you dont shoot any black and white photos
