  1. The tiny basses built by @Jabba_the_gut do put one into a terrible quandary, they are items of such beauty that once you are actually holding one you simply don’t want to give it back. This is a pic from the BFSW Bash and let me assure you I’m considering the distance to the exit, how many people I’ll have to knock out on the way and whether of not I can vault over two rows of collapsible tables after eating that many roast potatoes and falafel. I regret having seconds.
  2. He’s right, shut the site down 😁
  3. Monday 8th April Notes to self: - Check tyre pressure. Tidy garden in preparation for summer. Stop dropping my trousers every time a camera is pointed at me.
  4. Four and a half hours after leaving I’m back after the Bash. I’m still stuffed with glorious food, everyone was lovely, my throat is a little sore after trying to talk over the thrum of a gazillion basses. I swore a lot today, mostly an uneducated man’s inarticulate exclamations of delight at @Jabba_the_gut’s astonishing builds, such great quality, so much so I have a new aim, to only own two basses, one fretted, one fretless, both short scale and both Jabba builds. Extraordinary basses, really just extraordinary. @scrumpymike and team run a great event I don’t know half the people I met (and swore at) and didn’t get to meet half the people there (who I didn’t swear at). Have I mentioned the food? A couple of points, @wrinkleygit had (imho although I wasn’t alone) the best bass in the building, a Jabba fretless, I swore an awful lot about that bass in particular, I was settled with the Rob Allen and now I’m considering selling it, I suppose that’s the way with musical instruments, you make your way, slowly, towards your personal bass nirvana but never really arrive... </esoterica> @Witters needs an Ibanez SRC6 in his life, don’t we all? More fun than eating sherbet dib dabs whilst on acid, ahem, although not quite as transcendental. Oh yes, before I forget, the food... A 346 mile round trip, worth every mile, see y’all next year.
  5. I think the phrase is ‘clucking bell’ I just tried @wrinkleygit‘s fretless, built by @Jabba_the_gut and (never thought I’d have to string these words together) it’s better than the Rob Allen! I’ll say it once more... better. I really don’t think he realises just how astonishingly good his work is, glad I’ve got one ‘in production’ they will soon be properly sought after. Genuine works of art.
  6. @Frank Blank‘s acoustic corner ready for perusal...
  7. My order is in so no queues for me!
  8. I’m sitting outside the Hall (listening to Adam and the Ants) trying to wake up!
  9. Even me, a recent convert to FRFR, looks at that beautiful rig with envy, even without taking the sound into consideration, it just looks so cool, so cool...
  10. Man I’ve got to have one of these...
  11. Right. That’s me packed and heading West, see you tomorrow.
  12. Me too, love the look of that.
  13. No problem and no rush Sir, I’m looking forward to trying a shortie, never got around to it last time! See you Sunday.
  14. Man alive you design and build basses directly from my head...

  17. Back to the Tiny Desk for some funk...
  18. We need one of @TheGreek‘s ‘use it or lose it’ motivational messages on here...
  19. This is the ‘manual’ for the Godin, I have never found anything online that really gave an idea of what it’s really like. If you want to try it through your own amps I’m happy to bring it to you.
  20. I have a fretless Rob Allen Mouse (30” scale) and a fretted Godin A4 (34” scale). I have tried many acoustic basses and the Godin is the best for me. It isn’t particularly loud acoustically but when amplified it retains the characteristics of an acoustic bass in a was none of the others I’ve tried does. The Godin’s on board eq is also detailed and very varied. If you want to try them drop me a PM.
  21. I must admit I’m partial to a twangy pluck.
  22. Cheers @Deedee, I particularly fond of D’Addario strings so they might be just the ticket!
  23. Thanks @HazBeen, man that’s light! Must try them all out!
