  1. I know what you mean about rounds. They do add a load of grit and presence but I just love the feel of these strings. They last for years and years without losing all their brightness. It’s a hell of an outlay but I’d change rounds every 3 months if I had them so probably costs about the same. So very little string noise when recording as well.
  2. I’ve got a parts jazz with active emgs strung with ti flats. It sounds and plays great but probably isn’t worth a huge amount. Badass bridge, all parts neck, mighty mite body, gotoh tuners It records really well and stays in tune. I had a sadowsky metro and ended up playing this more so sold it.
  3. Thanks for the info. Glad to have inspired a session to dig out the gear. I’m going to do the tomorrow for another attempt. My sansamp and darkglass fuzz aren’t really suited for this but I’ll try again.
  4. I’m obsessing over this bass sound. Any ideas how to replicate it?
  5. Love the colour!
  6. I agree. This comment sticks out to me as it really shows how times change!
  7. Nathan is such a brilliant player. He’s fast becoming my favourite demonstrator/ reviewer. Pedal sounds good.
  8. Love it. The absolute best 5 string bass I’ve ever played was a sh Nordy at bassgear. Just the wrong time financially unfortunately. I’m sure this is a killer instrument.
  9. Congrats. I had one for a bit! The controls are VERY reactive and influential on the others. I loved the character around 11 and blend around 2. Staggering value for money.
  10. That’s never an arrangement for bass guitar. That’s a piano score isn’t it? Unless you’ve been told otherwise I wouldn’t play the part as written. It’s got an F below your low B on the 5 string! That wasn’t what was played on the original recording. This could work as an exercise to follow a chart, but you can’t play the exact notes, it’s impossible. Is this on your audition? It’s more of a challenge to take the music, play something that follows the chord changes and make it sound ok!
  11. Devin townsend Karnivool meshuggah
  12. Best of luck. I also did three years at acm many moons ago and it looks like many of the same tutors are still there. They’re very supportive and encouraging. Read the brief for the audition line by line and ensure you come prepared with what they’ve asked for. It’s easy to miss something and when the time comes it wouldnt be great to not have everything prepped. Practice as much as you can and try to relax, play the tune and show you’re enjoying it!
  13. I think it often depends how long they’re kept in storage outside of the factory, how the warehouse maintains temp/ humidity and how they’re transported in between. Back when I was in the mi trade we typically found the brand new models factory fresh (ie new US deluxe fenders) were usually better setup than the typical stock (US standards) which had been sitting in a warehouse for goodness knows how long. Anything that arrived in the winter from the US was always in a state and needed a thorough overhaul pretty much regardless of who we ordered it from.
  14. That’s really amazing. New version on the way I imagine.
  15. Great review!
  16. I’d be disappointed the retailer didn’t give it at least a once over before sending it out. This wasn’t a cheap instrument. Shame as it might’ve saved you a load of frustration and time.
  17. Not sure if this has been posted (sorry it’s a long thread) but here is a great instructional video from a Reading based season bassist Don Chandler. There is a whole series of these, really well paced, clearly recorded, very insightful. As a real novice to this genre I found this a great intro, there’s so much you can do with only a few notes!
  18. This is true! Our mutual producer friend had a session interrupted by a team from french tv asking questions about the spice girls!
  19. So I could buy a custom shop p bass, jazz bass, a rick 4003 and probably still have change to get a secondhand nt warwick for the same money AND still have change for the bus ride home. I just don’t get the pricing model.
  20. Name on the headstock 🤪
  21. Godin have a similar headstock.
  22. How trad jazz do those pickups sound?
  23. That’s spoons the music instrument!
  24. I bought a zoom based spoons lesson. Really. 😂 It was totally fantastic. Hilarious to watch the other people on the call trying to keep up (as we were) with the amazing teacher.
