I love that you play bass in your car. I've been debating a travel bass for the train..

Crying shame the big fence had to go up. Glastonbury was such a diverse festival crowd, the music was just a sideshow. Now its like applying for a green card just to qualify for permission to be able to attempt to be one of the 20% that gets a ticket. Means only the most organised people end up going. Who wants to go to a party full of really organised people?

Ah Lionel is alright, got a soft spot for him. Given they've had Mumford & Sons headline, that really was end of days

Their previous - Roly Wynn was a fantastic bassist, adore his lines on Pungent Effulgent. @bubinga - if you haven't already, check Ayurvedic

Better tone than the original. It's opened my eyes to the bass on that track, didn't really ever credit with Extreme being anything more than Nuno's looks, and Bill & Teds. Now to track down more of the brilliantly named Pat Badger..

Ah - fair play for replying ! I take it all back. .

Definitely done by the team, SBL has a few people working on it. Be interested to know some of the numbers around the site, how many subscribers, and how engaged people are. I was snared by a Facebook ad initially
He plays with a single glove on the left hand. He has a skin problem caused by contact with the strings, I believe.
Focal dystonia, it's a nerve condition. Skin problem guy with gloves is Etienne M'bappe (John Mac's bassist) - his sweat corrodes the strings (!)

Loving the BBC4 music docs at the moment - this, Jack Bruce, story of the Riff, Dave Grohl series, that new Funk thing. And that radio doc on slap bass. Hope this calibre material continues after the inevitable license fee hammering
If Trujillo needs to raise funds simply sell the 'Bass of Doom', sorted. I'm surprised it's not in the Fender museum already.
Not money, given Trujillo's current job. I guess it's the PR machine trying to get the movie social shares.. Hope Trujillo will be donating the bass somewhere public at some stage soon.
A Masterbuilt really ought to be at the top of CS in terms of quality control but wait times are long and prices are high
What sort of price would you be looking at for Masterbuilt?

Appreciate this thread is from Feb, but can see a few still following it. Does anyone have any recommendations / avoids, for a 5 bass rack? Is this Hercules the one to get ? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hercules-GS525B-Guitar-Rack-Guitars/dp/B004P0MWCU/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1417181124&sr=8-13&keywords=bass+guitar+rack

Most unusual 'First New Bass' story? Here's mine...what's yours?
Drax replied to Mick The Hat's topic in Bass Guitars
The only thing unusual about mine was that it didn't look anything like I wanted it to. I desperately wanted it to look like this: But my Dad decided he wanted to manage a band, so it ended up looking like this: Not my actual bass. It came from a shop, but I ended up getting some lessons from its original owner who gave me an LP that he had used it on (Dickens - Standing Out (with the worst album art I have ever seen)) on which it also got a mention on the back of. Which was nice. I loved that bass and it broke my heart to have to sell it.
Just had to look that up -
Most unusual 'First New Bass' story? Here's mine...what's yours?

Paper round wages bought my first new bass, a white Washburn. Bored of the colour one day I 'borrowed' my dad's electric sander and stripped all the paint off, in the lounge.. Filled the entire house with toxic white paint dust we were still finding years later. -
Typically someone isn't happy https://medium.com/@spencerlee/this-story-could-be-told-in-a-much-more-concise-way-that-leaves-the-band-looking-much-less-like-a-ce267daf11b7
+1 I've played bass for years and before that a lot of classical training on piano and trombone. However my bass is entirely self taught. If you pointed to a string and fret I'd still have to work out what note it was rather than just knowing. Having a decent classical background means I can still find my way around the fretboard, do nice little runs and arpeggios, etc. In other words scales and chord progressions (+ intervals & cadences!) are more important imho
+1. OP Learn the shapes of scales and arpeggios. So long as you can find the root, the rest just follows. It's all about the shapes..

If they can play well, it really doesn't matter. Clothing taste is completely subjective anyway and your perspective skews as you get older. Notions of smart / scruffy are in the eye of the beholder.

It's energising and inspirational seeing young players coming through. In so many other walks of life you don't see good young talent being given the chance. Seeing Marcus Miller last week, his current keys Brett Williams is 22, and was outstanding. His sax Alex Han (now 26) was tapped up all through Berklee (of course) before eventually joining. Difficult to know if the commercial schooling you get at music school has a positive effect on music. I know two very talented people who've been through the british system, now running great businesses with function bands, but they don't really enjoy music anymore, it's strictly business.

It's made by the same people that made One Day in September, (and also Searching for Sugarman) so hopefully will just be a good film in it's own right, regardless of any views of Jaco. Just hope the talking heads are people like Jerry Jemmott and Mike Stern, and not Stuart Maconie.

You wonder why they're doing this. Millionaire Robert Trujillo charging $2000 for an in-person lesson. Why bother? Doesn't say if this money is going to the Pastorius estate, it's not like he needs the money. I don't get it. Really looking forward to the film, but some items in this auction seem at odds with the admirable sentiment that has driven Trujillo to bankroll and produce the film.
It's SBL that I'm signed up to, not the other one..
Cheers. Yep I'm also a paid up member of SBL. After working through 2 Janek lessons I think this might be more my bag..

Cheers Hugh. Is this the $87 / 3 month sub ( www.videobasslessons.tv ) - Which courses have you done here and found useful? And what are the other teachers like? Considering taking the plunge on the strength of his free stuff.
