1.
People seems to be asking a bit more for the more recent Mexican Fenders but I personally, for a used standard mex, wouldn't want to pay much more than £350. Less if it was a bit battered or in need of some work.
It's really quite an old one so I'd be thinking 265-275
2. STill a bit over priced in my opinion - unless it's a shop with bills, staff, vat etc
3. Made in Mexico in 2003 There are shifts in quality based on date, some premium, and not premium but still really good models are made in Mexico I had a 97 and it was woeful but most 2000 on has been better made
4. Not all squiers are created equal Neither are mex jazzes- suggest you post the serial number ?
5.
I luuurve the look of an unlined board...that minimalist look...been trying to find somebody who makes black frets (for my fretted basses) to no avail.
You could always "paint it black" I'll get me coat
6. personally I dont think you can realistically expect altruism from all members and a certain number will have a primarily mercenary outlook. I include myself in as far as that because my purchases are based around a hobby (nothing more; its not like I pay the mortgage with gigging) and so I feel the need to sell for the maximum possible, and buy the best value possible because at the end of the day I have to have enough spare money to feed the children and keep a roof over their heads. If person A sells for too low an asking price and their item is swiftly resold by person B for more, possibly a lot more, then I don't have an issue with that. They should have asked for a higher price or sold elsewhere for a faster result. Regrettable but also avoidable. I do think however that if person C sees person A selling for too low an asking price but doesnt want it themselves then maybe a quick PM nudge would be helpful to avoid sellers regret.
7. I really like Warwick Red - cheap and you can buy two set packs, They are consistent, I've not found a bad set yet. Fender 7250s are nice too. 8. they'd have to be great to be worth that much
9. i have played lots of fenders and I dont think any were better than the bitsa of jap pieces that the bass doc made for me. I'm not ashamed to haev a fender decal on as they are fender spec parts and it looks good. I woud never sell it as a fender in any attempt to add value so I really dont see the issue. If it makes you happy and you dont try and trick anyone financially I really dont see a problem
10. hope to ship today mister. Please bear Easter working days in mind for delivery, and advise safe receipt ? A picture would be lovely, along with a note about what you're fitting it to
11.
Not to me he doesn't.
He's using the present tense.. I'm basing my assertion on that : can, not "used to"
12.
When Limelight (Mark Richards) first started selling his clones they were supplied with Fender decals. Limelight ceased offering the option after a shouty thread here on BC about fake decals and issues of legality. They now sell them with a bare headstock.
I do vaguely recall that, but the poster seemed to be saying that it still happens, when what I think he is seeing is post-sale owner changes
13.
Do it! Do it! Do it! http://basschat.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/%3C#EMO_DIR%23%3E/smile.png
ok ok ok http://basschat.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/%3C#EMO_DIR%23%3E/blush.png repeat this pattern hereafter G-----|--------------------------------------------- D-----|------4-5------------------------------------ A--/6-|--6-6-----6-6-5------------------------------ E-----|-----------------7----------------------------
14.
They certainly used to. Do a search for "Limelight" on here & see how many of them have Fender decals
sure - but who added them ? I dont see any on their site with them
15.
Totally this. It's only other musicians who notice. I've never understood how the likes of Limelight can legally sell an instrument with another companies logo, but that's another thread.
they dont - limelight dont put fender decals on. They may make replicas but they are surely wary of being accused of passing off
16.
Quite surprised no one has mentioned strings yet. Do you have rounds or flats on there? Flats would make it less bright
The original poster did, in his original post "I've already tried flatwounds on it (which I didn't really like), and pure nickel strings, neither of which had that much of an efffect." there will be a test later, lollipops for those who score high
17. Jazz basses can sound like that - I recommend split coil humbukcers in jazz bass dimensions -bonus is they'll be quiet
18. That I did not know, thank you Perhaps I'll post the riff as I see it here and you kind folks can constructively criticise it
19. Thanks - I was referring to the tab sites with regard to being flamed. I've seen some fruity comments there and I'm really not in the right place for getting some
20. You can stick a brass plate on the headstock; I used to use a guitar one called a fathead Here you go http://www.guitarsite.com/newsletters/990816/10.shtml
21. I purposely put one in my 75 replica - it has el cheapo internet pickups; everyone loves the sound and it's totally quiet noise-wise so either the copper plate adds something in sound, mass or resonance or it's a totally amazing bass anyway and adds nothing. It doesn't harm it; so I suggest putting it in. It was good enough for Leo
