1. There is a thread here somewhere where a TI string dealer says that Thomastik often get their gauges mixed up in a set and they have to check before sending out to customers. Don't understand why, since they don't make many sets. Any way you can check the gauge is actually what it is supposed to be? Sorry can't find thread - try a search (on way to office party )
 2. Oh No! I presume Sheffield's Joe Elliott will do a tribute on PlantRock?
 3.
Status do their Hot Wire strings in black nylon. I've got a set on a P bass and they sound good. Developed to work with piezo and magnetic pickups it says on their site. £21.50 for a set of 5 plus vat and postage be nearer £30
Thanks, I'll give these a go, price looks good.
 4.
I just looked at stringsdirect. Seemed to be mainly bronze or nylon. They use bronze cause they're louder,so I've heard,. Can't see the harm in trying others though.
Just found LaBella black nylon tapewound, at £47 for a set of 5ive. Any others? UD: Bad luck, probably only had one. Would have thought the website worked fast in real time, perhaps not. Must be a shed load of acoustics, but the 4our strings went fast, did not fancy a black one - not my favorite guitar color.
 5.
I'm a little bit concerned that someone will see them, and fail to notice exactly how short-scale they are "The Real Hustle" demonstrated a scam once when they were selling chairs online, and then delivering the same chair in the photo, but it's only a few inches high.
Was there a similar scam in the '60, someone selling 'Cup Final Seats'? You got a small fold up seat for rather a lot of money.
 6.
Strings are bronze and rather heavy for my liking, so they'll get replaced sometime soon (which will double the price of the bass). Well worth £26.
What are the string options for these? Never owned an acoustic before and I have flats on all my electrics - anything similar available? Or is it limited to nylon/bronze rounds for the tension.
 7.
[sub]Try as they might, that Warwick Thumb is not attracting any interest...![/sub]
Not on here, but it is listed as the top seller in the deko category. 8.

Laura Nyros

There's a name that does not come up often enough. These days I rarely play CDs. Yesterday I got a new (to me) car, first I've ever had with a CD player. I've had New York Tendaberry in the player all day.... First heard that album when I was 16, many moons ago.
 9. Delivered! Used the last gallon of fuel driving into work to collect bass before taking car to scrappie. £50 + NBD + NCD Good luck with your deliveries. I must be on a 'hot' ParcelFarce route... Bass looks OK, can't find any faults except crappy strings - but that may be me.
 10. Yes, Looks good, seems to be only 24 hours later than usual due to seasonal demand. Mine left local depot heading for delivery at work - but I'm off today
 11.
...To cheer you up here is a Christmas rock-fact:...
Up the Irons! Up the charts! Up yer a***, Cowell! http://www.kerrang.c...stmas-number-1/
 12.
Had the 'shipped' email this morning :-)
Stuff seems to be moving slower than last week. Usually in the UK by now, no sign of mine on the tracking Maybe a tracking notification delay though.
 13. Any synth builders here know anything on this? Looks rather few components for what its supposed to do? http://www.thomann.d...with_tempco.htm There is also a Moog kit (simpler, more expensive)
 14.
Totally agree with you about DC resistance. I posted on a thread elsewhere that it makes me laugh to see (especially ebay) sellers referencing the resistance reading as a way of classifying a pickup!
Something on this here, and a good explanation, but they still don't tell you what their inductance is. (if you need to know) http://www.seymourdu...why-it-matters/
 15.
Am I right in assuming that pickups in series present the combined impedance of both so in effect you have the equivalent of an overwound coil and the reason for the thicker (muddy?) sound is that you have something like a 250K pot connected where you really ought to have perhaps a 500K? I suppose you could try to engineer something like a 250K resistor which gets connected with the pot when you go into series mode?
Going from 250K to 500K is not going to make a lot of difference, certainly not a big remedy for muddyness. What is happening is the series configuration doubles the inductance, which will significantly cut treble (lower the -3dB point to half the frequency). Pickup manufacturers tell you that inductance is important, then don't specify what value their pups are. DC resistance, which they seem to like, does not tell you much (although it may imply a bigger/smaller winding, but you don't know the wire gauge - usually.
 16.
Reportedly, a new problem has turned up re electronic instruments: the modern lead free solder which is said to diminish life span to an expected 10 years, roughly, as resoldering all the cold joints after 10 years is said to be not viable. I'm currently trying to investigate this, as well as other pros and cons with different systems, but am not done yet. For the time being it's worrying though. In comparance, my Roland electronic piano from the mid eighties is still going strong after almost 30 years.
Lead free was a big (EU) mistake, done without scientific justification. Only a small percentage of total lead use is electronics and mining the alternatives are more polluting. Then there is the lead-whisker problem . I hate the stuff, never been able to do good soldering with lead free. Iron bits get wrecked very quickly. EU madness. 17. During the recording of their third studio album, dynosaur prog-rockers Emerson, Lake and Palmer lived entirely on ham and cheese sandwiches.
 18.
Nope, I just look here: http://www.thomann.d...and_basses.html If a decorative R-458 comes up, I'd be very interested.
Ah, I just searched on Deko, etc and only got the HB acoustics. Good idea about the software poll, some things can sell off fast.
 19.
BTW: There are a couple of new 'decorative' items today.
You must have magic mojo in your fingers - I've noticed some things don't come up in a search.
 20.
Does it include a 'fix the transit on the way home' bit? If it don't it ain't much good to an average muso.......... 21.
Does it cover truss rod replacement ?
Don't think it does?.......
 22.
And all along the watchtower - I really can't get that. Enough to play it but not enough to really feel it.
Hendrix recorded the bass part on a short scale (Mustang?). Redding was down the pub.
 23.
Pretty good value I reckons...
Yep, I've just managed to put a H-B Deko into my fuel tank, will all be gone forever by Friday....
 24. Ditto to all that. I never did find a spray can top to keep the screws safe, despite being repeatedly told to do so Some neck width measurements in the case studies would help.
 25. Damn, they sent me a voucher and I succumbed to the evil scheme to sell off these acoustics.
