1.
think it's actually the nut that needs sorting to get the action down to where I want it rather than just a case of lowering the saddles but I'd rather let a pro do that in case I make a mess of it.
Saddle height is adjusted to taste, but looks like you had a sweet spot previously. On the other hand there is only one correct nut height. If you fret at the third fret, there should be daylight under the first fret. I think it should be a few thou ( 6 ?) You need to check each string and I'd definitely get a pro to adjust. This test is only good if you know the frets are level!
 2.
and one high fret which makes a couple of notes from the 15th-17th fret on the G string fret out or buzz. I can sort the high fret without too much trouble.
same problem as my HB. I suspect the neck frets are pressed in with a tool and the body frets can only be hammered in. My loose 17th fret has slight evidence of being hamered to get the treble side down. Ive pressed it in and it does not buzz now, have some superglue ready when I get around to it. I wonder if the 'Fretless' label inside can be explained by they started out fretless but were later fretted (with some QA issues) ?
 3. When I looked, it said something like 'limited stocks available', for the custom line. I presume the fast sales were a single item.
 4. Former Wichita resident Glen Campbell was the first guy in town to own a cell phone.
 5. I assured them I'm capable of counting the pickups, they have now sent me a UPS return label. No NBD in the forseeable future I suspect the inner carton was incorrectly labelled by Squier, but since it is now repacked I cannot check. So no fault of Thomann's, seems to be the case that most of the posts in this thread are not about Thomann faults. EDIT:Just re-opened the outer box to put note inside, as requested. Inner box is marked up incorrectly by Thomann, so a Thomann cock up, not Squier.
 6. Reply to my email received from Thomann, after re-sending to another address (thanks ambient, for the pointer). They want me to send a photo of the wrong item before proceeding further. I've just re-packed it. I'm sure I'm capable of counting the number of pickups on a bass. Clearly there are fewer than the one sold to me.... I'll keep you posted. Now't will happen until Monday now.... Since it is a B stock item, now sold out, looks like I'll have to cancel. One UK dealer is offering to match UK and european prices. Wonder if they will if I have to go for a non-B grade?
 7. Thanks both. Never had a delivery longer than 4 days in the past, even in late December, but today's was the wrong item!
 8.
....which has to be the worst design I've seen in ages...
I take it you've not looked at the Walker's Crisps site then? (don't ask why I went there!) Actually they (Status) are very good and usually deliver strings post free in 48 hours. One order was one day later and they sent an apology email!
 9. Anyone who has emailed Thomann about problems with an order already delivered - how long before they have replied? Looks like they have only one email contact address and no direct access to the person designated as 'your contact person'.
 10. Just noted a Service update on Parcel Force website (as I await a NBD....) Last updated: 8:51 Wed. 14th Jan. Paris incident Heightened Security Due to issues of national security and potential threat to the public, there has been increased screening of parcels arriving in the UK. Royal Mail Group is assisting the national agencies and hope to minimise the delays as far as possible
 11. Fret 12 at 17 inches. Fret 23 about 1/32 inch under 25 inches (should be 24.99, using 'the 18 rule"). Fret 24 also about 1/32 inch under 25.5 inches (should be 25.5) (subject to the accuracy of a Stanley tape rule, which agrees with a B&Q rule, no expenses spared on measurements here!) Intonation generally poor (to my cloth ears). Fretted at 12th sharper than harmonic, though I have changed the strings, maybe the bridge was set for the original bronze rounds.
 12.
30 minutes later it was pouring down and nearly impossible to drive.
R Dean Taylor just got on with it. Mind you, he was going to see Jane.
 13. Website seems to be running now (at least the Squier bass section is). Noted a few colour options missing on a couple of the basses I looked at last year. One, oddly, only available now in black, which I don't think is a best selling colour. (shed load left on the shelf?)
 14. In a recent survey, 93% of rock bassists said their biggest problem was callused fingers, They were not able to pick all the chocalate bits out of the foil wrapper without dropping them and always got chocolate stains on their pants. (a nod to this thread http://basschat.co.u...ost__p__2528957)
 15.
You should try the Status Hot Wire Half Wounds, they're smooth but have some twang and growl to them as well as thump. You can still get a low action with them, too.
Thanks I might give it a go. I fell in love with TI flats, but are rather expensive with GAS. The Status flats seem to be tightly wound (you can't see the windings like you can on D'Addario or TI's) so I guess this is why they are stiffer. A nice blues thump if that's what you want though.
 16. The Status Hot Wire flats have now been taken off! Played them over the weekend, could not get the tone back with any amount of knob twiddling. If you like playing with foam under the bridge, they would probably be fine. They are quite stiff and do allow a very low action, which was nice. Might be OK on my P, but I'd rather the Jaguar growled a bit!
 17.
I'm choosing between the black four string fretted and the five string fretted and fretless. I'm leaning towards fretted (since it'll sound like its own thing rather than a double bass imitation), just not sure how useful the B string is on an acoustic. I like the natural better than the black though, which nudges me back towards the 5-string since the natural 4-strings have sold out.
Exactly what I did. At least the 5-string was a cheap introduction for me to 5s. I almost always avoid any sort of black guitar and missed the natural 4 by sitting on the fence. A voucher pushed me off...
 18.
I think when the strings need changing I'll try a set of flats.
Just arrived a set of Status Hot Wire flats for my short scale bass. Absolute bargain at 13.99+VAT, post free. The Jaguar has lost a bit of its 'growl', but still sounds good, a little more rounded perhaps, I can turn the bridge Pu up a bit. Slightly smoother feel than XL Chromes or TIs. It's a 40-100 set so tension not too high. Not sure what the string life will be, the other sets of flats would likely last forever, G string on these looks a little fragile. (0.04)
 19.
...then it uses Mac OSX's built in speech synthesiser to speak the brand/model number of the newly listed instruments.....
A bit like sat-nav.. "Make a u̶-̶t̶u̶r̶n̶ Deko purchase when it's safe to do so."
 20.
The Lemon Pipers of "Green Tambourine" fame don't smoke pipes nor do they like fruit.
You have to wonder just what they were smoking. On the other hand, The 1910 Fruit Gum Company really do like fruit.
 21. I did something similar, feeding bridge + neck pickup into two seperate bass amps but got ground loop hum. I found an audio isolation transformer to isolate one amp channel. (did not want to drop off an amp earth) Seemed to work Ok, not sure what the transformer was, expensive looking, I think from a professional tape head unit. As quick to make but not so pretty
 22.
Just how big are the acoustics? (Say in terms of how wide the lower bout is).
5 string: Lower bout 42cm Tail to head 124cm Maximum body depth 12cm
Is the unplugged volume reasonable?
Not sure how to define reasonable...
 23. Saddles drop out when string removed. Geeky observation: they give details of the pickup windings turns, wire gage, DC resistance, resonance and Q factor. Q is meaningless without specifying a frequency, and if it is 1000Hz, the inductance is 7.47H and 5.97H (sorry I'm a geek)
 24.
No good for me, I have calluses on all my fingers and thumbses from my various stupid techniques on various stupid instruments. am often laughed at when seen trying to work my phone with the side of one of my fingers.
I now have problems picking up small components (M3 nuts, screws, washers...) with my left hand or first two fingers of right hand.
