1. I think I need one for live work in one of my bands. I can't find one for sale anywhere. I know the guy from a Genesis tribute band picked one up off the bay recently for £300. They seem to be thin on the ground though. Cheers, Nigel
2.
Jazz Cafe in January, I think.
I'll try to be there! Thanks.
3.
Cheers, mate. The Zappa tune is awesome.
That and Peg are my fave tunes on Aja, but they're all marvellous. I'm going to have to check you lot out if you play in London! Cheers.
4.
Great playing, great sound. Great!
Thanks Wil POD X3 Live and the natural Wick growl. There's some really great playing on here as craigmartini said. I'm a bit in awe of how he makes something that challenging look so effortless, on stage too. Great stage presence!
5.
Kinda puts everyone else's to shame
Cheers mate. I know what you mean though.
6. Superb bass for the money. Can't believe I sold my Jack for a ton, my fault though, have seen them go for over £200 S/H.
7. Seen these? Apologies if this has been posted already .. http://www.crazy-pike-basses.com/3.html
8. By god, that's just what I need! Shame it's passive but what the hell, it'll be going through a POD X3. Seriously what sort of money are you looking for? Any issues with it? Looks in decent nick. PM me if you wish.
9. Agree, doesn't look right at all that body.
10. Survival in North Acton, not far from the tube station, decent backline, drums (no cymbals and bring a HH clutch), PA, four SM58s on stands, decent mirrored rooms and facilities. Really nice people too. About £24 for three hours with kit, £21 without kit.
11.
I've been enjoyiong this months one too - esp the Squarepusher interview - damn he's a control freak live I struggle remembering which end to blow through, and hes running sequencers, lights and blowing a gale - git!
Mike Flynn is a great interviewer. The Squarepusher piece is so interesting from a philosophical point of view.
12. Some cracking shots in this thread! Here's a couple from a gig two weeks ago, first outing for my Corvette Fretless in its new white livery.
13. I don't really know Megadeth much at all, but it sounds to me like you'll have that down if you give some time to practicing with a metronome. It looks difficult but you are nearly there with the fast parts. Nice one! This is one of me doing a Zappa number .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=focGv64Wj0A I hardly ever play with a pick but you kind of have to to get Scott Thunes parts
14.
The BassPOD (Mk1) was the mainstay of my live sound for years; that Skate Park tone was pretty much what I used all the time, but as time went on I bought a hotter amp that obviated the necessity of using a POD. I'm no purist, I love Line6 stuff, but right now I'm in a happy place with just an amp and cabinets. P
I suppose it was the sheer practicality for me. I used to be a bit up my own arse about valve tone. But I hate carting amps about, and all the sh*t you get with sound engineers. So basically the POD offered me a plug and play solution, sound guy just has to make minor adjustments for the room, no stage overspill from an cabinet either. I just double DI into the desk, pan hard left and right, not much else for the sound guy to do apart from levels. Plus, with Kit's band, I may be playing some guitar live while she takes care of the bass on the keys, so I set up the relevant patches, plug in the guitar, no problem.
15. I'd just keep at it if it were me. I'm pretty organised but I'm quite the procrastinator. I've got three bands at the minute, although two are not at all busy, one is though and the other two will be picking up soon. I have a full time day job with a lot of responsibility, studying hard for a diploma required by my job, love going fishing, have to cook almost every night, love to go to the pub, etc. etc. It's hard getting a balance, but you can do it. Calendarise as much as you can and get a feel for your week. Do plan for yourself a bit of time out to chill. I reckon you'll be fine. It's getting a picture of my life in my head that works for me. I can sort of see my life for the next month in my head. It makes it easier.
16.
"Have to say, it feels bigger than it really is". Have you overheared my missus at any point in time?
17. I've read much more of it now. Have to say, it feels bigger than it really is, lots of good stuff in there and the reviews are getting more mainstream in terms of gear price. Quite like the contrast of Squarepusher and the two '80s pop bands. I'd still like to see a letters page though. Overall, I'm really pleased with the way it's going and look forward to the next one. Do you reckon this is down to the direction of Nick Wells then?

19. Superb mate! EDIT: I mean Joe L's post. Brilliant!
20. Yeah I only use a couple of models at the most, the ampeg and the Sub Dub pre, with a little compression. BUT, I use a fair few effects on some of the songs I play live and being able to have stereo chorus, flangers, delays, synth type sounds, with great distortion models, etc. is so useful for me. I use the volume pedal a lot too. I suppose really wanted opinions on the quality of the core tones, personally I doubt anyone could really tell the difference between them and a real amp and cab, especially in a full band setting. Very subjective though, I didn't really like many of the tones in that video.

22. Wow! This sounds amazing! Great work from those involved in the organising! May I suggest I install my POD X3 Live in the quiet Room? I'll bring headphones in which you get exactly what a mixing desk receives when you DI to it in stereo. I don't think dood ever confirmed he'd demo his, so I'm happy to hang about and show people how to get around using it.
23.
Don't be tempted to buy Bass Guitar for Dummies. It's utter tripe.
I have a copy of that, It's not utter tripe. It's arse water.
