Bloody hell, there are some good stories on here! Mine's not so nice. A long, long time ago when I lived in Wales, we were sound checking in the afternoon. me and the drummer sat down with a pint. The singer and bassist (I was a guitarist back then) wife and husband, were still on stage when we saw husband send a very powerful swinging punch into his wife's eye. No idea to this day what it was about, she was hurt pretty badly. I was numb for the rest of the day. I went to the dressing room half an hour later, they were in there, hubby doing that usual wife-beater sh*t of saying sorry and I love you, and was I roundly told to f*** off by the singer. We did the gig. I was young then, but if that happened now, I'm not sure how I would react, apart from instantly leaving the band of course, probably screaming at him with rage. I think I would want to remove the man's testicles. He's dead now anyway.

Gig tonight but feeling poorly. Help me get through it.
Thanks Jack, I like your plan. I will give that a go.
I like Jack's plan as well Man, I'm so lucky with the bands I'm in! -
Here's a link to another owner / seller from 2006
Ah, I'd seen that, at least it helps with the value of postage in the USA I've been having a think and I reckon, since it's probably all wood, that it was a fairly easy bass to manufacture. The very high price of £1,100 in the 1980s may have been purely to offset the initial cost of tooling up to produce the proprietary hardware. Steinberger probably weren't licencing theirs out at the time, although that's conjecture on my part. The fact the bass is rare is obviously because it was unpopular for whatever reason, and not particularly innovative. I'm sure it's a very well made bass, not sure why it doesn't have HBs or active circuitry though. To me, it's little different to the Hohners, although they are active of course. Wonder if that guy in Italy will get that much for his. Mr Bassman, have Washburn themselves been of any help with specs and value, other than to tell you how many were sent to the UK?
-
Good question I'd like to know what it's made of. Is it all wood, if so, what sort? I know the hardware is proprietary. Looks like rosewood boards. The single neck versions on Harmony Central get reasonable reviews but the prices paid are all over the shop. There's a slightly derogatory appraisal on the Ed Roman double neck site but they would say that since they are offering to custom build a better quality one for you with real Steinberger parts. There's also a dude in Italy with one for sale at €1,450, but will he get that? There are variants too apparently, with the FL neck on the bottom. This bass is an absolute bitch to find out anything about. I think I'd really like it, but I have a value in mind I won't go beyond and I don't want to get into a bidding situation. If anyone can find out more about this thing, can we share info? Cheers.

Think you'll have the same problem with your Dean EUB, no pic, no info, very little to go on.
...And it was bloody ace fun. Looks like we might be asked to support them on two other gigs as well. So we are well made up.
Great band! That must have been enormous fun! I know the guitarist, got a feeling he might not be with them at the moment though. Where was the gig? I was seeing posters in London at a venue we played recently, can't remember where though, Rhythm Factory perhaps? Anyway, great support slot to have! Nice one!

Useless Bass, Useless Bassist or Useless Sound Engineer?
xilddx replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
I couldn't comment on either the bass or the bassist unless I actually heard them. So it must at least start with the technician.
Ah, but when he hits what I think is G on his D string (assuming he's tuned in fourths) it's really loud, but you can barely hear any other notes, other than one he's playing that's really badly intonated. -
The man's a **** Pedro - bloody guitarists. I remember when I was in my last 'guitar' band, I drove home from Bristol one night to Preston for a rehearsal cos we had an important gig the following Saturday. We had 20 mins rehearsal at the most and then ran through Comfortably Dumb and he couldn't get 'his Comfy sound' so the remainder of the night was spent tweaking his Boss ME8. The band didn't play another note and after an hour and a half, we gave up and just left him to it. I had to leave at 5.30 in the morning to make it back to Bristol in time - I should have just stayed in the 4 star hotel there and got pi55ed
That's ridiculous! This is why I don't play in bands that have a guitarist, I don't play in bands with bloke singers either.

Useless Bass, Useless Bassist or Useless Sound Engineer?

He's also ALL OVER THE PLACE! He must have smoked so much sensi before the show. Monster riddim skillz though! I saw this when it was broadcast and never forgot it. So, Useless Bass, Useless Bassist or Useless Sound Engineer? Or a combination? -
I think he probably does that to impress, no? It's possibly the only part of the song he enjoys playing, the rest is just some boring chords. He gets a kick from playing his solo in front of you. I can't stand that approach. I'm with you, I'd get pissed off with that sh*t in a rehearsal. Luckily I never get that in my bands. He was probably naffed off at you because he would have been really embarrassed after thinking you might be enjoying it, what a come down.
At the Jazz Café a year and a half ago. First gig at a decent venue and second gig with the new line-up.
Damn, that's funky.

Steinberger Spirit Double Neck (Bass & Guitar)
Those Steinberger Spirit things are small and cheap enough to make your own from two ..
Hah, I was having a chat with a bass builder friend of mine and we cooked up an idea of getting two Hohner cricket bats, bass and guitar, and doing just that. I may consider this if I get nowhere with getting a stock double. It would be laughably easy to do! I really like the Hohners as well, I've had a Hohner headless bass and guitar before. They are so good for the money. Cheers. -
TBH I've never heard of Arbiters before - is this a fair price ?
I nearly bought one just before Christmas on the bay, same as this one, I think it went for nearly £400 if I remember. Thay are Japanese, I think from the Fujigen Gakki Factory. They are very good quality, like early Ibanez. Bassassin is an expert in all things Jap so he will know, drop him a PM. Arbiter also distributed Fender, and were also known as Dallas Arbiter when Dallas acquired them. Very good guitars as far as I know. -

xilddx replied to Linus27's topic in General Discussion
I had to do a gig last with really bad flu and had asthma too. I felt terrible, got through the gig, but for the next few days I was f***ed, it really took it out of me. The gig is king though. Good luck mate, just eat lots of fruit. -
My music appearing in a film! (A Bit Of Tom Jones)
xilddx replied to Ray's topic in General Discussion
Congratulations mate! That's fantastic! What a buzz Looks really good too, will it be on terrestrial TV? I remember the shock, and the buzz, I got when watching Long Way Round with Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman and one of my band's numbers was played on the soundtrack. Wonder if any album sales were generated from that, somehow, I doubt it, but you never know! -
I've just noticed that the last two names of attendees on the list both have models of fender amp in their name coincidence? surely not!
Both Captains as well!

No rituals anymore, but I also go for a piss and ensure I have a stage beer ready. I'm usually a bit distracted and impatient to get on and you can't get much out of me in terms of conversation. Anyone else get this perennial bloody nuisance that after you wash your hands before going on stage (I like to have nice clean hands before going on, do you?) the f***ing hand dryer never works? At best it's as powerful as gerbil breath. No venue seems to provide paper towel dispensers any more!
Yeah, but you know the way it is. When you want something at a certain time , it's never there. I''ll keep a lookout in the meantime
Thanks mate! I also have a saved search with instant email notification on the bay too. I have played a Steinberger Spirit guitar (very good for the money) and a Hohner G3T, the Hohner was better, but they don't make a double neck. The Spirit's for live, I have my Warwicks for recording. I've really got a bone in my chops for a double neck now -
