1. Going well so far, got the white coat on, Mary Kaye style, with the halo but solid on the back and sides, translucent on the front only. I went with the Plasti-Kote super acrylic in the end as I did some more research and it appears to be suitable. I got it in Porcelain. Looks lovely! Will finish it with clear coats of of the same product, and buff it up nice, probably satin as the wood grain is not filled. Thanks for the help gents!
 2. Cheers lads! Respraying my new Wawick over the next few days, then I'll (hopefully) have my ideal fretless and my life will be GAS free, apart from ...
 3.
Why not leave your bass without the coating. Some say (including me) that it'll sound better without! Davo
It'll be a thin coat, but I take your point. Problem is with that honey violin stain, I may puke over it if I see it for much longer, so it needs something over it. I'm going for a Mary Kaye or possibly solid white finish.
 4. Anyone know of a internet supplier of polyurethane spray paint? Not having much luck. Need to refinish my bass pretty quickly. Cheers, Nigel
 5. I'd go for a really cheap fretless with a high-ish action.
 6.
As Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane would say, `Good news, good news'!!! Well done mate. Nick
Thanks Nick! She's gone to a great home. Relief Cheers, N
 7. I'm sure you'll join me in thanking a very nice young chap from Brum called James who loved the bass and took it off me for a very fair price. We are both delighted!
 8. I can walk with one shoe on, but I can't run very fast.
 9.
In passing, a suggestion has been put to Steve (CrazyKiwi) about the possibility of a free monthly tuition post here on basschat. The idea is, that members will be able to get free tuition tips on different technique areas each month, similar to that found in most instrument magazines. The information will be supplied via The Bass Institute (http://www.icmp.co.uk) and hopefully available as a download straight to your desktop, although these sort of technicalities are yet to be discussed in any detail. The advantages of the post are, that the forum could directly suggest different areas that they would like to know about and investigate, hopefully in turn they will then be supplied with information that they can directly relate too each month. Obviously the information in the post will be based on the majority of the suggestions, but hopefully it will enable The Institute to supply a page that is less of a blanket cover and much more tailored to the individual members. Any feed back on this idea would be warmly welcomed, hopefully it could be a really good addition for all. Very best, Phil Mann The Bass Institute (ICMP)
Sounds superb! Now all we need is the same arrangement with the marriage guidance council.
 10. You're a better man than I, thank you so much! That's incredibly useful!
 11.
I tend not to take anything apart so afraid am not much help with that. Just wanted to add that the finish you want looks great. I really like translucent paint effects.
Thanks mate I really can't handle wood finishes at all. I particularly dislike spalted and really heavily figured woods on a bass. Love them for my furniture though!
 12.
I'm sure you've popped over to the Warwick forum as there are one or two posts about 'wick owners sanding oiled finishes. I'd guess the only thing to be wary of is the stain soaking in more in some places rather than others. I considered it with a SS1 in nirvana black (the stain looked like it was non-standard, almost dark burgundy) but sold it in the end as dark oiled finishes are really hard to completely remove. There was one thread about a guy who sanded off the honey violin finish on his streamer and it looked good in the end (but took him ages).
Thank you I did! But my searches proved fruitless. Would you mind telling me what your search terms were please? Also, I'm only planning to sand it back a little, the grain enhancement of the stain is actually not unlike how "they" do the Mary Kaye finish anyway.
 13.
I've taken a SSII apart before, just to out of curiosity after I first bought it really! It was quite an interesting experience - Warwick clearly are one of the best manufacturers of bass guitars in the world, every cut and join was absolutely seamless and the hardware was a snug fit all over. Never got as far as taking the control cavity surround off though - I can imagine that would be considerably more tricky than removing the bridge, tuners etc. I would advise taking measurements (ie bridge height, saddle height, pickup height, distance from strings, 12th fret height etc) before you remove the parts, especially if you're currently happy with how the bass plays. That way, you can put it back together again quickly and make sure the action is exactly the same as before. Danny
They are beautifully put together and have so many little ergonomic and convenient features built in. I'm a total convert after hating the idea of them until last year. My Wicks are my best friends.
 14. Can confirm it is simply screwed in, I checked when i got home this evening, never noticed those screws before! Thanks YouMa I'm going to sand it to lighten up the butt ugly honey violin stain a bit and then spray white over it but let the grain show through, Mary Kaye style but without the halo. More like this ..
 15. "bass solo on the opening track" tells me all I need to know about this, thanks bilbo.
 16. I need to do this for a refinish. Are there any tricky areas? I only need to take everything off the body, but the control cavity surround looks tricky to remove. Any other things to watch out for? Thanks in advance.
 17.
MiM P I got off the bay a couple of years ago... Ebay pic Pimped... Cheers
That is very pretty!
 18.
The dude I'm waiting for big things from is Dwayne Thomas Jr (check him out on the Gospel Chops DVD)
That mutha is in the ZONE! So cool he upside down too. That's the most inspiring piece of bass playing I've seen for ages! That was without a doubt a true reflection of the person playing it, at a very high level of technical and aural facility. The guy f***in GROOVES!! You've got me all excited now EDIT:I generally hate slap too. This fella makes it sound like it should.

 21.
The white jazz. PIMPIN'
Have to agree, that white jazz is seriously pimpy dude. I wish you'd put a bridge cover on to hide that horrible badass though
 22. We do a punk jazz swing version of Pretty Fly For a White Guy by the Offspring, which is a really naff number I reckon. Boy is it fun to play though
