1. Clarky's band All The Queen's Ravens .. Really clever 'fusion', amazing live too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EysgZI-BPc
 2. There are some brilliant bands on Basschat, I have a good few favourites. If you go here you will find some great music http://basschat.co.u...are-your-music/ I'll kick off with these .. hernandoitwt's two bands, Intraverse and In Tyler We Trust, superb bands, real quality. 3.
took me 20 years to learn how to practice get stuck in, hard work sorts 99% of life's issues.
Wise words.
 4. Play whatever makes you sound how you want it to sound. If you use effects all the time, play at home with them so you get your timing right, some effects skew the attack. Amps can do too. Having said that, I play the bass acoustically most of the time and only plug in when I'm running through songs.
 5. Signed and tweeted and FBed. Hope it helps.
 6.
Would that be a Feraudian slip?
Awesome
 7. Depends what you want to do at the moment and how much you want to do it. Without practice and experience you won't know if you have natural aptitude for music anyway. You need a good tutor to put you on the right path and give you manageable targets. Your tastes and ideas will develop and change over time and you'll start to find out whether you are happy emulating your musical heroes or deciding your own aesthetic for the instrument. Patience, practice, and lots of listening and interpreting - all done because you are enthusiastic and loving it - will pay off and you'll be better than a lazy person with natural aptitude. But patience is the key. You will plateau, you'll get frustrated, you'll break your own boundaries, and you will never stop learning and surprising yourself. You'll hopefully derive much joy from it. Best of luck man.
 8.
Nige, you're such a milquetoast these days. Where did all the fiery passion go?
I gave it to George Osbourne
 9. 'PLODDING' is such a f***ing ugly word. One thing I've learned over the four years I've been in Kit Richardson's band is that less really is SO MUCH MORE. I used to try to be 'clever' and the thing is, the songs need the frequencies, the essence of bass, the richness and rhythm. Not a load of auld ballocks from a bassist who thinks he will get respect or self-worth from slinging in twiddly bellend sh*t every few bars. You need to decide if you are a bassist or a musician. You have to train your mind to make decisions that go against your need for adoration and learn to enjoy it. The band, the singer and the songwriter are the priorities, NOT the individual backing musicians. The OP needs to flip reverse it.
 10.
Yes indeed Nige - it's the understated vibe that for me really seals the vocals - I love Donnie's delivery and lyrics - we gave him the idea of playing around with the meaning of the title between something socially conscious and something more metaphysical - he nailed it IMO
Totally Mike. He's got a lovely philosophical vibe going on with this, and World Pass By, and he knows how to put that across with words instead of simply sounding angry and pissed off at the material world with its greed and lack of compassion. What he does is subtle, it makes the listener actually LISTEN, I think that's a vital component of what you guys are doing. Personally, I don't understand the attitude most people have to 'rap', it's like there's some sort of shield up, a prejudice that prevents any sort of realistic appraisal of the words. Good rap is audible poetry with music and it takes a real skill with words. Whereas Lemmy 'singing' Ace of Spades commands such respect, a lot of folks think 'rap' is just f***ers who can't sing shouting about tip-drilling hos or whatever
 11. It's always a pleasure and an honour to meet other BC members, I always have a great time at the bass bashes, and meeting BCers at gigs. For all the impressions of Off Topic being a tricky place and not for the faint-hearted, if you meet your 'opponents' in real life you'll find they are all lovely people. Nice thread witterth
 12.
And his other band -
Oh lordy, I love this too. Sheer quality!
 13.
I generally like the track and production etc, and it's all very well put together. Top marks. However, I am another one uncomfortable with the (Lyrical) pitch, and agree with the point(s) skej21 made about it being atonal/dissonant etc. Just a view from my ears of course, and not intended to cause offence. But like I said earlier. the rest sounds great.
I suppose I can understand what you mean, but to me it's all good. It's got attitude, and for me it's a wonderfully understated performance and the lyrics speak for themselves.
 14.
:D amnd girlfren say it's the same for her and bikes !
Dude, where have you been?!
 15. Given that these are budget instruments all made on the same machines and probably all the same dimensions, You should have no problem at all. Most Fender necks will fit most Fender neck sockets. In fact most scaffold poles will fit most Fender neck sockets, especially the three bolt '70s ones
 16. Here you go Jake, there are quite a few. Might be heavy going reading them though! I also hear good things about Interparcel. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?app=core&module=search&section=search&do=search&fromsearch=1
 17.
Nah, I went and joined a band again.
Good man.
 18.
If you're not in a band then give it up. Sell all your over priced bass gear and go buy a motorcycle... I did.
Yeah man, that's why you have all that bass gear and joined a bass forum.
 19.
Yes, believe in your balls! Though gigging does tend to make them sweaty, I find. Scrotal adhesion is a small price to pay for the benefits of live performance, however.
If your balls get sweaty, wait until you get home and make a nice Moroccan Martini for your loved one.
 20.
This is something I would enjoy getting involved in. I can't imagine I'd ever have the balls to get up in front of a crowd.
You have them, they are there, you just have to believe in em.
 21.
Are you for real? A salesman doesn't get an hourly rate, Bankers bonuses are not based on hours worked. Authors and musicians are paid for the volume of sales and the amount of use of their property. That is right and proper. Car mechanics are the session players and literary editors. What would an hourly rate be for me when I drove from Surrey to Lancashire and back in the same day to play the Colne Blues Festival last year? Do you think I should just be paid for the playing time or am I also allowed to claim for the rehearsal and travel time? Roy Orbison said that he knew a song would be a hit if he wrote it in 10 mins. 1 million sales or 10 mins. What should he be paid?
Dad IS serious I completely disagree with him of course because by his reasoning, no amount of training or imagination or innovation or creativity, or ability or skill or knowledge is factored into Dad's theory. If you are a heart surgeon you get paid the same as a strawberry picker or an arc welder.
 22. For all you nippers out there - when you start reaching 50, and you get out of bed in the morning and need to make a nice brew before grabbing your Bass Guitar Magazine and performing your morning caca (which is the only time you will get some peace and quiet), you will look like that guy while you're waiting for your kettle to boil.
 23.
Careful Nige, there are a few more comments over in the recording section! Great piece of work, I love the way it is made up of very distinct sections which all flow nicely into one another. Does it qualify for this month's competition?!
Yeah that's all cos of me! Seriously, you're right, I jumped the gun. However, in general terms what I said still has the cold ring of truth. People will talk all day about a music vid with Marta playing a Jamiroquai number, but barely give our own members' music the time of day
 24.
I know what you're saying mate! A video is on the horizon... I'm playing the buff chick and Mike'n'Donnie are doing the Furry thing in kitten suits. We're going to get arrested, but it'll be great for publicity! (Seriously though, we are planning a vid).
I was hoping Mike would be the buff chick! As we know, buff chick virtuoso bassists are da bomb on Basschat, or cross dressing orientals. (Seriously though, I'm very disappointed you've had no other comments. Peeps should sling their headphones on instead of playing silly word games in Off Topic)
