I didn't say there was any logic to my outburst! Just inexplicable dismay . I got this (maybe old fashioned) view where when i want to see a band i like i go for the music and the atmosphere - being surrounded by like-minded souls etc. I don't want to go to a corporate event with "Blackberry" flashing on video screens behind the artist and men in suits lurking in the shadows and many punters guests by invitation from the corporation.
Argh! It wasn't a GIG with paying punters! It was a corporate event with entertainment, like they have at most corporate events.
Here's a sign of the times. The bit about the stabbing hardly registered! I am so used to reading about stabbings now that i kind of skimmed over that bit. I was more confused/dismayed about their being a party organised to celebrate an Instant Messaging service...
Weren't they promoting the BBM service? Blackberry are losing market share and need to up their game and do some marketing. What is there to be dismayed about?
I don't think Jessie J counts as an artist..
Is this supposed to be a joke mate? She is very talented and a great singer, performer and songwriter. Also her bassist is a respected member of Basschat.
Yep - finally flipped It was the first headline i found on the BBC website and on reading the story found myself a bit dismayed - thats all.
What, about the 'stabbing' with a bottle?

I don't understand the point of this thread. Bands have done corporate gigs for aeons. Even Bach had a corporate gig really.
Just glanced at this. Only a few years ago this would have been very uncool. Now it seems that the corporate world are using the latest artists to promote their wares and the artists seem happy to comply. When i was a nipper there always appeared to be a healthy disconnet between popular music and the corporate world. These boundaries seem to have been broken. I blame Live Aid and such like for showing business heads how "marketable" musicians can help promote an idea, service or product. They say that you get the society that you deserve. Help... http://www.bbc.co.uk...london-17606820 Jessie J had earlier performed at the event to promote Blackberry's instant messaging service.
Have you gone slightly mad?
I think I know what you mean, it's just a case of they're having fun playing interesting/difficult music instead of trying to convey anything. It's very impressive though and I'd definitely go to a gig... although I'd probably feel like a technically rubbish musician afterwards
That's all totally cool mate, just that none of what you have written bears much relation to music, that's all.
Have a listen to the new album if you get chance siddx, you can hear it on their band camp for free. There's a lot more exciting things going on in it, of course IMO.
Thanks mate, I have checked out quite a few vids in the recent past on the other SP thread, but I'm afraid it does nothing for me, it seems devoid of romance, edgy as a billiard ball, etc.

They are fabulous, and there are some nice little things going on here and there, but I'm sorry, it bores me rigid.

http://rjvmedia.co.uk/irehearse/ Great little app. I wanted to learn a lovely but tricky arpeggio guitar line on a T-Ride album and found I couldn't hear the notes properly, I was thinking it was in purely descending and ascending minor thirds, but I started realising I was hearing wrongly and that the bass harmony was making it sound like that, it was nothing of the sort for the first half. I digress. This app is brilliant, and keeps the original pitch down to about 45% of the tempo. Great in/out section loop & repeat facility which allows you to save the track to its playlist with any loop sections memorised. Tuning to cents and semitones. Also master volume, pan, bass and treble cut and boost. Works with Quicktime video too. £7.99 as a download Mac app from the Apple Store, not sure about the Windows version. You can download a free trial. Really useful.

Recorded and filmed a live session with Kit yesterday at http://www.houseofstrange.co.uk/ with Ash Gardner at the desk. What a wonderful day. Anyway, there was a party afterwards and got introduced to Tom from THREE TRAPPED TIGERS. Bought the 'Route One or Die' album today. f*** me, it's superb! Life-affirming compositions, musicianship and sounds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4w0GfTkreY8&feature=fvst

I had no problems returning a £1400 Steinberger guitar for free. The fact they sent me B stock without telling me it was B stock was the biggest worry, and their customer service was appalling. I will never use them again. But you should have no problem returning it.
Or not it would seem
It sounds great mate! And so does Plux! I only heard a couple of them, there's only so much Jazz one can manage in a single sitting Which do you think think is his standout track?
-
We use our guitarist (and have done for years before I was in a band with him) who is an incredible designer. Check out his site: http://www.bingercreative.co.uk/
Excellent work.

It's really good, and I really like it, but what a hideous bass sound. What a weasly nasal horrible noise Tony Allen is totally fabulous isn't he!

Wow! That is as sexy as Tulisa's sex tape!

Which BC Member's Bands do you want to see, and have seen?
xilddx replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
You've also seen one of my bands I've seen The Jetsonics and hope to see them again soon
Of course! Sorry, and guess what, I was thinking about that gig earlier today which inspired this thread. I'm obviously partly brain dead I even wrote a review of that gig I seem to remember. Top night that was mate, thanks! -
I've seen Pete Academy in Nearly Dan a couple of times at the Jazz Café - always excellent. Seen Low End Bee's and Happy Jack's bands, both great fun! Saw Dave Marks in Acton a few weeks ago too. I've even been on the same bill with a couple of BC members, AliceBand was one, they were brilliant and supported Kit for our EP launch. I need to get out and see urb's outfit, Dick Venom and the Terrortones with Big Red X, Cetera in Dressed to Kill, Clarky in All the Queen's Ravens, and others. There're some real quality acts on Basschat. Who do you want to see, or have seen?
-
Fantastic mate! Give him my best! NIce one Plux! Get that link up mate.
Good point Nige, as I am no longer a zombie. And as if by magic ....
Very nice! It's very good name and design actually, I really like it.
