  1. It does look good, but (i) you need to combine it with a signal splitter - query whether that is going to lead to any signal loss in your chain (ii) put it through your amps effects' loop rather than: simply plug and play as part of your standard chain and into your amp's pre, and (iii) part with north of £200, which is likely to be OTT for many of us.
  2. That's certainly my understanding about the Stomp i.e. it provides a synth model / emulation and does not have an actual synth engine generator.
  3. The latter i.e. from 0.25 in I presume the pad a the start will require polyphonic which the FI can't do (but the SY-1 maybe able to manage)? PS it is the speed of tracking on the buzzy / hard-sync that is key point here, I don't doubt for a moment that the FI can do the core sound.
  4. Not quite. A keyboard synth will already get you there - that is the gold standard. The challenge is for a bass synth to get us close. HX Stomp doesn't have a hope, but @Quatschmacher maybe able to get to something pretty close on the FI
  5. PS what was particularly valuable was getting glowing feedback from two of the Ken Smith owners who had moved theirs on (for perfectly legit reasons) - and who clearly had no axe to grind. But were still raving about how fantastic their KS's had been. That counted for a lot to me. Anyway we digress. This wasn't meant to be a KS appreciation thread
  6. Ok misunderstood what you meant (apologies). Yes true. However, it's great to get a steer from folk who's views you rate and who have lived with certain gear for a while. Although having said that I went against the views of a couple of my BC buddies, recently, and got myself a Spector...tbf I did try before I bought. You're right though, at the end of the day there is no substitute for seeing if it works for us.
  7. Amended
  8. Can you not record directly from the Stomp? I've been using a simple Boss RC-30 for my clips.
  9. Yup, just relaying the view of fellow BC'ers who are passionate about bass synths (and whose views I am very happy to trust). Between us we've owned the FI, C4 and SYB-300 (which the SY-1 is based on) and several have owned two of the three. Bit like taking the word of Dingwall owners that their basses are great, when I've never played one, innit? Or buying a Ken Smith based on the recommendation of 3 BC'ers whose opinions you rate highly and finding that everything they said was spot on.
  10. something relatively easy for a synth that can manage polyphonic: Human League - Don't You Want Me something challenging for monophonic synths: Darude - Sandstorm Absolutely agree that filter + octave down + dirt = synthy sound. But that's really a separate point - we are looking at the actual synth engine on the Stomp vs the synth engine on the current 'top 3' bass synth pedals (FI, C4, Boss SY-1 / SYB-300). You won't find most owners of any of these top 3 selling their synth pedals because the Stomp matches their capability, in the way that we might do with other (e.g. octave down, chorus etc).
  11. Are you confusing the two threads we are currently bantering on? Or am I just plain confused if so... 😂
  12. Won't be the first or last time that happens, will it? 😄
  13. I don't want to limit cramp their style. Happy for you to play honest broker Btw young Ms Krow saw your post as I was replying and strongly recommended I spend some time listening to Snarky Puppy! My lack of knowledge of whom seems to be on par with our 28 yo female lead vocalist not knowing who Buddy Holly was...
  14. Just so folk know what young master krispn is referring to... I need to go check out Subutex and its use in the manufacture of Dingwall basses (which btw are continuing to get a lot of love on this thread as you will have noticed!)
  15. I mentioned in passing to Osiris earlier in the thread, who was pestering me to post a comparison clip of Stomp vs FI, that I moved my FI on a little while back; which makes doing such a clip quite tricky in my experience 😉 I look forward to a BC'er who thinks a Stomp can do something as good on the synth front (perhaps Osiris or Cuzzie?) posting their "evidence". But I'm not going to hold my breath... In the meantime, let's reasonably conclude synth effects: HX Stomp 0... Future Impact 1
  16. Mick in defence of China, I did get both my velcro-tie packs from the Chinese supplier (2 separate orders in the end after I found how useful they were and how quickly I got through a pack of 10!). They arrived very quickly and are now happily tidying up cables and leads in gig bags and the basement!
  17. Have a listen to the last post on the filter and synth thread for a recent example of an FI in action. FFS 😁
  18. +1^^ And if mine is anything to go by, that Berg cab is likely to be pretty tasty too!
  19. Ok this thread is starting to 'cost' me money - always a risk when you start a thread! 😁 I've gone for a 'safe' manual variant of what lemmywinks suggested. Just over £3.
  20. I'm guessing, from what you've said, that the AB1-5 has better pups than the Combustion? It seems to me that these are so often the key in transforming a good bass into an outstanding one, and it's the pups that really differentiate the budget lines from the high end lines of the same make and body shapes. Ibanez SR Std --> Ibanez SR Premium is obvious one that comes to my mind, but there must be a ton of other examples.
  21. Agree the FI is a faff - that's its one downside. I would love to agree that the Stomp can provide usable synth sounds with great tracking when playing quickly, which is one of the key tests for 'live usability' in my book. But that's certainly not been my experience. If it did, believe me it would save me spending a tidy sum on an incoming Boss SY-1; this appears to have great tracking but also avoids the 'faff' element of the FI. Although for those of us who are into our synth pedals, the FI retains its crown as arguably still the very best synth pedal for bass in terms of the quality of the sounds it can deliver. Really happy to be proved wrong on this by a fellow BC'er - I look forward to hearing some decent HX Stomp synth lines on this filter and synth samples thread (there are currently NO HX Stomp synth lines posted, which maybe says something?):
  22. 40 lbs vs 21 lbs for the two models you have shown. And appearances can be deceptive: the SC takes up approx just 60% of the space of the ST. A 212 is going to beat a 112 for overall "sound". No question. The SC is pretty much as a close to a 'half ST' as any cab can be IMO (but @FinnDave can now actually confirm that rather take my word for it!) So boils down to: more sound with similar voicing or lighter weight? Pays your money and takes your choice! Or in the OP's case, just pay more money and get both... 😁
  23. Except for the small point that the ST is almost DOUBLE the weight of the SC. Will be a consideration for some.
  24. I think you may have seen my pic of a Fearless F112 (now there's an awesome cab! ) and SC side by side? You're correct there isn't much difference in overall size between the two, however the Fearless is 50% heavier at circa 33 lbs vs a featherweight 21 lbs for the SC with cloth grille. Be good to get a side by side shot of the SC and ST anyway for future ref. @FinnDave could you oblige for us?
  25. I know you're kinda thinking that this has resulted in more gear rather reducing the amount of space taken up at home, which was an initial factor for you. But I wouldn't be massively surprised if you found that your SC did the job just fine, in which case you'll be able to move your ST on and you'll have ticked all your boxes at that point
