1. I had a set-up done the other week which in the end also required a fret dress. The standard set-up would have been £40 but with the fret-dress I paid £80 total. So about £30-£40 would seem reasonable.
2. Bah. Double gutted I missed this now. Love Chris Potters playing! Great clips. Thanks for posting.
3. Cant help with the tab but there is a decent bass cover video on Youtube which with a bit of work you may be able to learn/replicate. Looks relatively straightforward, all in a similar position around the 5th/7th & 9th frets. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8xVD-MPeUk I know its not exactly what you are looking for and you may have already have seen it, but after tab its going to be your next best resource I would have thought. Good luck with learning the song.
4. Really good Squier Vintage Modified Jazz. £220 plus postage. Black with block and bound maple neck. Older version of this model bass with the Duncan Designed pick ups. Recent set-up with fret re-dress. Low action and fully functional truss rod. Very good condition - usual amount of light scratches and bumps from regular playing and gigging but nothing significant. Prefer pick up from Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk area but can travel to deliver within a sensible distance for fuel costs. I am prepared to post (UPS via Interparcel is my preferred method) but will have to source some decent packaging to do this as there is no available hard case or gig bag. Pictures below (apologies for the reflections of my conservatory roof!!)
5.
Oh noes! You said the "D" word!
I know!! I'm expecting the execution squad at my door any minute now!!!
6. Not 100% on the components as i bought this recently as is, but I understand it to be: Fender MIM jazz body (possibly a Geddy), drilled to accommodate an American string through bridge Fender pick-ups from a Japan 75 reissue jazz Fender neckplate Mighty Mite jazz neck with Wilkinson tuners and a Fender decal Fender knobs and bell plate with a Kiogon wiring loom. It's a beauty tho for sure...
7. OK. Cheers chaps. Cheap imperial set duly ordered!
8. Potential stupid question!! I have just acquired a bitsa jazz bass with a string-through bridge as per the pic below. I went to adjust the saddle screws today with the 1.5mm key that I have always used on my other basses (at least I think thats what size it is) and it was too small. The next size up i have is a 2mm which is too big. Looking on line, the suggestion is that I might need an imperial 1/16th key to fit but I am not sure. I couldnt find a 1.75mm key specifically. Can anyone confirm one way or the other?
9.
See, that just does my head in!!! My brain tells me the lines must follow the length not the width...
I'm sort of with you there. Thats why I had always lined them up down the length of the bell-plate with the jack socket as the reference point. I picked this bass up the other night and straight away I have no idea whats going on!! Messes with your head!! Pretty sure I will be taking them off and re-positioning them...
10. Ok. This isnt about whether you prefer your pick-up volumes at 100% and your tone at 50%. I am interested in where you like the white position indicator to be when it is in the full-on position. I have just acquired a jazz bitsa and the white indicator marks are pointing up when the bass is in horizontal playing position (as per pic) but on my other jazzes I have always had them pointing down the length of the bell-plate directly towards the jack socket when full-on. So, how do others like to position theirs and also, how are they positioned when they leave the Fender factory? Does that vary too? Just curious......

Newly acquired bitsa Jazz. Fender string-through body and Fender pick ups. Lovely MIghty Mite neck - and yes, it has a Fender decal!
12. Similar to the above, I have a bitsa jazz bass with a mighty mite neck (Fender Licensed) with a Fender decal on. I also bought the bass like it. The body, pick-ups and bridge are all Fender. For all intents and purposes it is a Fender bass, just wasnt all put together in a Fender factory. I dont think there is a great deal of deception involved there, or brand snobbery.
13. Longpigs. 2 fantastic albums and then gone. Saw them a couple of times in Cambridge in the 90's.
14. I play rock covers in one band (trying to avoid the obvious ones), but in the other play a mix of indie, punk, mod and ska.
15. Interesting. I dont ever do step 3, wrapping the string back through the centre of the post. Makes sense tho as I guess it must give a more secure anchor at the start of the wrap.
16.
A bit of a guilty pleasure this... Just started listening to The Pretty Reckless on YouTube, especially the tracks Going to Hell and Take Me Down. I can appreciate the music and the ability of the band with a singer up front who has an incredible voice (and who writes a lot of the songs, too IINM); but watching the videos - I don't half feel like a dirty old man...
A guilty pleasure for me also!! We have a new female singer in our band and have just introduced Miss Nothing and Make Me Wanna Die to the set list. Great stuff, but not expecting our singer to dress (or undress for that matter!!) the same way as Taylor Momsen!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txBfhpm1jI0
17. King King in April. Joanne Shaw Taylor (again) in November and Deep Purple at the O2, also in November.
18. Thanks chaps. Think I need to go back in and hear it for myself.
19. Had a look at one of these this morning in the local music shop. Really nice lightweight body, slim neck. Felt good in the hand. Unfortunately didnt have time to plug it in and hear what it sounded like. I am in the market for a PJ and this on first look fits the bill. Anybody with any experience of one though? They dont seem to come up very often. Also the price - in the shop for £395. Sound about right? Input appreciated. Cheers.
20. At the moment I would say either Bigmouth Strikes Again or Eton Rifles.
21. Nice. If you still have this come the end of the month I may well take a little drive up from Suffolk!
22. Never get tired of it. Great song.
23. Ok. My guitarist has today won 2 tickets to the Bass Guitar Show this Sunday but neither he or I can go. Going free to the first person to respond. Tickets will be forwarded by email so email address will be required. Cheers Rich note: has been shared on facebook as well so may disappear in the meantime!
24. I have a Squier VM 70's jazz. Its my main gigging bass and I love it. Black with a block and bound maple neck and the 'Duncan Designed' pickups are great too.
