  1. Getting pickups to fit Peavey Grinds or Zephyrs can be a hassle. Both 4 and 5 strings models shared the same pickups and the nearest in size are EMGs. I went with Warman Jazzbars in my Zephyr 5. They had a different style shell so I popped them out and used wooden covers. Course this was before I discovered folk selling empty Peavey shells on eBay. If I was repeating the swap I'd place the new pickups in empty shells 👍 It's as @TheGreek says there's no reason why you can't use 5 string soapbars .
  2. Same as using carbon rods, a safeguard when using less seasoned timber. The blurb all stresses increased stability but they don't saw what it's measured against, fresh cut or kiln dried. If anybody fancies trying one, Madinter sell roasted maple blanks for 56€ ex VAT. https://www.madinter.com/es/maderas/mangos-y-zoques/mango-arce-duro-torrefactado-bajo.html
  3. Aye Stew, they're first class. Here's another example. With impeccable timing I placed an order just before China went into lockdown. Few days later Kmise email me saying things don't look great and there may be a delay, I tell them it's OK as I'm in no hurry. Following week they contact me again, this time saying I should cancel and source the parts elsewhere. Again I tell them it'll be fine 🙂 It took them another 4 or 5 similar emails to break my resolve and follow their advice 😁
  4. I've one of Willie's (Twin-Cam) necks. Yet to use it so can't comment on it. I've also bought a few Kmise jazz necks, really nice necks that cost buttons. The Kmise folks are brilliant, very proactive should there be a problem. Dealt with them plenty of times, honest and trustworthy. If I'm honest Kmise is one of the best eBay sellers. They've refunded me for goods on route, trusting I'd contact them for an invoice once they arrived.
  5. Can't answer for @Basscabman but my necks from Wang Guitar on Ali-Ex (Jinwan on eBay) have been great. Had the blocked/bound 42mm nut version on my ThunderCabronita for 6-7 month ,not one problem 👍
  6. It was no trouble, I've a pair of Zephyr pickups in the desk drawer. All I had to do was measure while the EMG page loaded up 😁 Oh the DCR is 14.6k ohm when in series 👍
  7. It'll need to be the 40 series, they're just slightly smaller than the Peavey soapbars.
  8. There's a few differences. Scale length, Grinds were 35" scale length. Pickups. Zephyrs have 4 wire soapbars wired in series, you could go parallel or tap. Grinds are 2 wire in series. Bridge. Grinds had mono saddle bridges with through body strung option. I'm pretty sure Peavey pulled the plug on them either 00 or 01 to make way for the active bolt on neck Grinds. Turned out nobody was too interested in that style of Grind so production stopped after 20 months. Afraid the only folk who could date by SN would be the factory that built it, customer service in Meridian don't even know Zephyrs exist 😀
  9. Oracle ? Wouldn't say that, I've only been singing their praises since Thomann released then 7 year back 😁
  10. Never been, info came from finance industry news page. Your quite right about regional variations, maybe minimum wage would be a better measure. Indonesia $112.04 pm 2019 Vietnam $191.57 pm 2020 Mexico $156.36 pm 2019 China $327.07 pm 2018
  11. If it's the ones sold by earlpilanz, they are the perfect fit. I provided both types of scratchplate so he could make the templates 👍
  12. Where did you get that idea from ? Figures from Statista have China at $6.99 ph for 2020, Mexico trails at $4.82 with Vietnam on $2.99. https://www.statista.com/statistics/744071/manufacturing-labor-costs-per-hour-china-vietnam-mexico/#:~:text=Read more-,Manufacturing labor costs per hour,%2C Vietnam%2C Mexico 2016-2020&text=In 2018%2C manufacturing labor costs,2.73 U.S. dollars in Vietnam. Wages in Indonesia have dropped from $200 per month in March last year to $188. https://www.fxempire.com/macro/indonesia/wages-in-manufacturing
  13. I've had 6 of them, none over 9 1/2 lbs @Nothingman Looks great. I'd go with plain or the black plate. Mind you can't use Fender plates, they have wider bodies.
  14. You can tell at a glance by looking at the horns, slimmer horns on the V2 Roswell 👍
  15. How old is your PB-50 ? About a week after I gave Brian a scratchplate to make his template I discovered post May 2018 models have a different plate. Nipped back through to Glasgow with another plate so both versions are now available.
  16. Count hit 70 before I even started thinking about the Peaveys, over 60 of them. Think I need to lie down 😁
  17. What do you think the fault could develop into ?
  18. I imagine the discount is in the same vein as them paying for you to replace a faulty pot or tuner.
  19. The mark up on pickups is obscene. Look at prices this mob charge selling to the public, are the big names paying a quarter that by bulk buying ? https://www.mojotone.com/guitar-parts/Pickup-Parts
  20. Bloody Hell, you'd never know there was a bass against that wall.
  21. Once factory supply times pass a certain limit Thomann pull the item. When the lead time is shorter then items appear again as if by magic 😀
  22. It already has increased, hikes are massive 😠 11/12/20 £300 bass shipped to Sweden fully insured £36 01/01/21 quote for sending same bass to Freiburg, Germany. £86 with basic insurance.
  23. Cheers James, been a couple of changes since then. The blue slab in the middle was sanded back , looked way too dark. Currently has an old Noll P-bass preamp in it and a massively over-wound (29.9k ohm) single coil from Dave at Bloodstone 🙂 The aged white to it's right went to live with Stew Black. Chi-Sonic Telecaster now sports a snazzy white pearloid plate courtesy of Mr Pillans in Glasgow. Sill have the body . Had a hard time sourcing pickups and a neck for it. Ended up buying a Yamaha 5'er neck and a couple of Peavey VFL pickups. Glued a block in the neck pocket ready to router out again. Then I ran out of steam 🤣
  24. Cheers. The blue started out as paisley pink but didn't measure up to the Fender finish.
  25. Some folks prefer naked 😱 Or maybe just with underwear 🤣
