1. Well i'm very chilled out watching bands at Guildford Cathedral for Wildlife Rocks.....lots of people here at one with nature and the earth and on top of that i got to see Brian May play with the Troggs.....Surreal! Hawkwind on about 3.30..... :-)
2. When all is said and done you will have a nice bass that you have a real attachment too because you put in the work and it was still a bargain :-)
3. I absolutely empathise with this.....since having an MRI on my neck for pain which showed up Spondolosis or Arthritis in Engish i have been undergoing lots of physio and rheumatology at the hospital. Fact is that on top of normal wear and tear our chosen instruments are heavy old lumps of kit which doesn't help. Hope you get everything sorted.
4. So i went the Camden Underworld last night to see Hoaxwind and Alan Davey's band The Psychedelic Warlords. Well what can i say about Alan's playing but WOW.....chording all over the fretboard with bass breaks and soloing and the sound from his rig was amazing! The growling thunderous sound from the Rick through the Fender amp Ashdown cab combination was bone shaking...... Hoaxwind were a worthy support act but the Psychedelic Warlords were immense. Highly recommended.
5. Ooh.....this could be like Bass Players Anonymous My name is Paul and.....I do not own a Fender
6.
I like Scott's Bass Lessons, but I'm not good enough to begin the course. His program of lessons I've got seems to start with how to hold the bass and alternate your fingers, then jumps to stuff that's beyond my ability. I've never found anything much that's in the middle ground. Probably I'm just being thick.
You're not being thick i find myself in the same boat with online type learning. That's why i'm ebbing on the side of getting a real live person to teach me.
7.
In the first instance, why not check out Scott's free lessons on You Tube and see how you get on.
I have to be fair and they're pretty good but i'm not sure if i'd get more out of a few hours of proper tuition?
8. I really need to brush up my skills and am undecided whether to go for these online type teachings or go for some proper lessons.....i tend to think i will glean more from getting a good bass tutor but don't know what to do :-$
9. I love jam, particularly on toast and in cream cakes.....maybe a splodge in the middle of my rice pudding too.
10.
He has written nearly every Maiden song, co-written most of the others, plays the keyboards on the studio songs, produced a bunch of the albums and probably manages his daughters band as well. Not sure whether that makes him the better musician, but he's more than just the bassist
Again its difficult because the whole of that particular band are very talented but yes certainly since around 1988 (Seventh Son of a Seventh Son) Harris has increased his input in musical contributions and certainly production. IM is very much Harris's band without doubt ;-)
11.
Without listening back to the track I would say it's probably a minor/blues scale with plenty of chromatic fills scattered all over and some two string chording that is Lemmy's trademark technique. If you use a blues scale as your starting point and improvise you probably won't be far off any of the versions he recorded.
Thanks Mark.....i'll give that a whirl :-)
12.
Steve Harris and John Entwistle?
John Entwistle i would agree with but i'm not sure about Steve Harris.....he is a great bass player but i don't know if musically he is above that of ay Dave Murray?? It is very subjective and difficult to define.
13. If it does happen then it's just for nostalgia and Liam's bunce money i reckon.
14. Truly lovely bass.....enjoy it!
15.
There is a youtube bass cover that may show you the key sections. One of the problem is with that track is that it depends on which recording you mean as they are all different. Although not that uncommon with Lemmy stuff.
I've seen the YT video and am picking up some of that. I'm listening to the version on Masters of the Universe but most versions differ with any Hawk tune and particularly with Lemmy Lol. Thanks for the input so far guys :-)
16. BC, Owing to being a technically and musically inept bass player i am really struggling to transcribe Lemmy's bass solo on Hawkwind' Orgone Accumulator. Are there any real musicians out there that could help me out please? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.....Paul
17. Just up the road from me so might treat the missus to a night out there. Break a leg as they say ;-)
18.
What's the fretwork like on them? My experience of vintages including my own is that although well built and good sounding the fret ends can be a bit sharp.
I had to stone down the fret ends on my Vintage as they were a bit sharp.....i think that was my only gripe about it though.
19. Our band is in search if a Synth / Keyboard player for our Hawkwind tribute band. We are in the early stages of rehearsing to try and progress the band and frequency of rehearsals is a little laid back at the mo owing to work committments. It is a fairly laid back project at the mo but we really do need to add that spacey oscillating element to the band. If you think you'd like to get involved in something that is taken seriously but not too onerous then get in touch. Cheers.....Paul
20. Rehearsal tonight and i gave this bass it's first outing.....all i can say is that for a budget instrument it performed outstandingly.....really good sound and very punchy......over the moon with it!
21.
I have the est96a stingray copy and it's a very solid bass
Yep.....thats what i meant i had lol. Anyway......good basses imo
22. I have a Vintage V96 (mm copy) and i think the quality for the £££'s is superb. Glad you liked it :-)) always nice when the instruments feel good.
23. I believe the Squier Bronco isn't bad at all and i've just picked up a Gretsch Jet Bass ii for just over £200 which for the money is excellent. I did also try the Squier Jaguar short scale bass out and that was around 190 quid and played very nicely. Good luck with the search.
24. I normally use a little Loctite Threadlock on the screws.....it never really hardens fully but keeps the set screws in position. All round useful stuff to keep in the cupboard for maintenance and repairs.
25. What a cracking instrument and a great birthday treat! Well done :-)
