Also keep an eye out for an 80's/90's SGC Nanyo Bass Collection. They've been undervalued for years now, and prices are just starting to creep up for fretted basses, but I imagine you can still pick up a fretless (if you can find one) for £200 or so. The quality for that price will blow you away.

Lemonrock. Lemonrock is your friend. Check out the main music pubs within 20 miles of where you live and note which bands play there regularly. Visit their band websites to spot which ones play blues. Then make a note of all the venues they will be playing in the next few months. That's your target list ...

Yup, complete bummer but - in fairness to the pub - they paid a decent cancellation fee. First time I've ever arrived at a gig to discover that it's been cancelled.

In a slightly predictable sort of way, they turned out to be midway between flats and rounds in terms of tone/brightness, more sustain than flats but less than rounds, and they last much longer than rounds. One place where they don't fall midway is feel. They feel much more like flats than rounds, with far less noise when you slide up/down a string. I liked that. In truth though, I'm a flatwound player so what I want is flats. I've ended up with all my basses except two being strung with flats, and the two exceptions with rounds. Thinking as I type this, I'm getting very tempted to switch one of the round-strung basses to groundwounds ...

You won't be needing all those amps and combos then ...

I'm in the process of putting together a much larger rehearsal space in an industrial unit near by, which should be up and running by next Easter. If peeps are still up for this idea in a few months, someone remind me and I'll be happy to host it.

I bought a Sansamp some years ago when I used different basses through a different rig. I have no need of it at all these days, but it still comes to every gig. In the event of any backline failure in my bass rig, the Sansamp allows me to run through the PA instead with minimum fuss and no drama. I probably wouldn't go and buy one simply for that purpose, but if you already have one it seems such a no-brainer to keep it with you ...
