If you're talking about half a dozen rock bands, all with pedal-fixated guitarists, then you need to give some thought to sound checks. Hard to get everyone to turn up before the event kicks off, so most bands will be lucky to get a 30-second line check. Similarly, if some acts are going to be amplified acoustic guitars plus double bass then there will be people wanting to use their own DI boxes (Fishman etc.). Are you providing a secure area for bands to leave instruments etc. before/after their own set? What about parking for bands to do their load-in/out? Just random thoughts ...

Skidder's link is spot on (see what I did there?) and those units are excellent. Don't expect to get much use out of the foot controller though ... much easier to set them as fire & forget. BUT. That's an extra tripod pole to take up space, extra cables to plug in and trip over, extra stuff to be set up and then broken down later, another large box to fit in the car. All good if you want that stuff, you play venues with enough space, and the band can deal with the hassle. The Junkyard Dogs uses loads of lighting and we're very happy with what we do, but YMMV. If you're just dipping your toes in the water, a good place to start is these: http://www.thomann.de/gb/cameo_flat_par_can_rgb_10.htm You can mount one each onto your PA poles using: http://www.electricalcounter.co.uk/products/Lighting/Indoor+Lighting/Intalite+Indoor+Lighting/Track+Lighting/Track+Lighting+Accessories/C-Hook+Clamp+for+SFL+Track+Lighting+Range,+3.5cm+Maximum/3642515555?gclid=Cj0KEQjwyMafBRCU7OCRyc2vitsBEiQAKV4H9ChLw_cJ6FuEXzI7zwxYQWBRaKCzmmMSFQIqeHi6vZsaAu4A8P8HAQ The whole lot will fit in a small hold-all, you use your existing poles, and the two extra power cables will be in existing cable runs where your speaker cables are running anyway. By no means the whole solution, but a good start place and also something that extra lighting in the future will complement rather than have to replace.
Is it not possible to go on a pub crawl without an internet connection these days?
noted, but taking you seriously anyway, my pub crawls these days are always looking for business. I never drink in a pub that doesn't do live music, and I always look for an opportunity to chat up a landlord. That means I need access to the band's website, the pub's website, and Lemonrock - not to mention Google Maps. Five years ago it would never have occurred to me to take a notebook or a laptop to the pub with me. Now I never go out without one.

The original Hofner 185 on which this is modelled used the then-standard 'Staple' pickups. It wouldn't surprise me to find that they would fit your bass, and there's quite a few of them turn up on eBay.

We use one at maybe half of our gigs. We've so far only been asked not to use it once. And we've only had the Fire Brigade out once. Sadly, I'm not trying to be funny.
and he stole the show.? the music is very cheesy too, with the cabaret man on vocals..
He didn't steal the show. When you bring on a showbiz drummer and put him in front of the band, he's not stealing the show, he IS the show. Couldn't agree with you more about the appalling treatment of a great rock song, especially those vocals. -
http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/HA4700.aspx Behringer are selling these new for £87 just now (+ shipping). This unit was bought for a project that never got off the ground and is absolutely as new. There's one of these on eBay at the moment which has reminded me that I really should list this. Fairly rare German-made power amp from the 80s, built like the proverbial tank and very heavy, 4U if you want to rack it. The two channels can be used independently or bridged for the full 120W. These were (I believe) intended for use as guitar amps, but a power amp is a power amp. All fully functional, no problems or issues. You'd need to be crazy to buy a 30-year-old valve amp without playing through it first, so it can be tried at my studio in Acton W3. Given the weight, this is strictly collection only!
