1.
Chevin A500 or A700 on Ebay. Usually less than £240. Proper power amp.
Lightweight? Ahem!
2. Anyone else wince at 55 seconds?
3. I use my Gramma Pad as an automatic default at every gig I play unless there's a really solid reason not to. It almost invariably allows a great sound - note "allows", not "creates". Exceptions? By far the worst sound I've had in the last few years was at a very small pub where my Barefaced Compact had to be placed on a padded bench which stood on flagstones. No Gramma. On the other hand, the second worst was on a largish wooden stage in a fairly large room, where nothing I could do would make the boom go away. If that had been the first time I'd used a Gramma then I'd have (wrongly) sold it the next morning. Some rooms just don't do EQ.
4. The clue is Post #8. Cloudburst spotted something that no one else had spotted, at which point the vendor suddenly dropped off the radar. Might just be a coincidence, of course.
5. Of all the blues purchases I've made (which is a very silly number, BTW), the best value I ever got was from the 3-volume "Coming Home To The Blues" set - here's Vol.1: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Coming-Home-Blues-Vol-1-Various/dp/B0000242VQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1417435528&sr=8-3&keywords=coming+home+to+the+blues If you can't find at least a dozen change-of-musical-direction tracks across those three CDs, you're just not trying.
6.
I've got a Crown xls drivecore - 'floats like a feather...stings like bee' as Mr Clay once said - think you'd be hard pushed to find anything better..........
Can't help but feel that there was a butterfly in there somewhere ...
7. I always believed it to be an original 1969 USA Fender [s]Precision [/s]neckplate
8.
I asked to try an Orange Head and 2 410 cabs that were on display. Reply "we don't allow the big kit to be played because it upsets other customers"
Well technically that probably qualifies as Health & Safety ...
9. But then the handles fall off.
10. Hmmmm ... don't think so. You can see the 'built down to a price' thing colliding with the 'now we can add loads of switches and functions' thing to create an over-spec'd mess that doesn't really work.
11. Has anyone actually read what the OP wrote? He's not asking you to answer here, but to PM or email him ...
12. Despite owning ... ahem ... a number of basses that are considerably more valuable, I still routinely pick up my SB320 when I fancy a bit of bass noodling at home. That means that it's pushing out of the way several vintage Fenders, Mike Lull, Alleva Coppolo, Wal and Status. It cost me well under £300, and that's including the new flatwounds I installed. I've been searching for a long time, but I've never even got close to finding another bass that offers so much for so little.
13. Nah - he's one of them.
14.
It is a cracking piece of wood.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/66246690@N07/6230760440/
15. When these are on wheels at the blunt end, they often have some form of handle, maybe even a loop of rope, at the pointy end so that you can walk along towing the case behind you.
16.
But one of my Halloween gigs this year was at a boat on Loch Lomond, ... It was a 210 TE combo...
Yes, I heard that the Royal Navy frequently use them as ballast on aircraft carriers.
17. An alternative interpretation of "an f-hole".
18. http://www.snopakebrands.com/snopake/correction/correction-pen/pinpoint-st-correction-pen.aspx Not trying to be funny ... this stuff really is the answer.
19. Luckily enough I feel the same way about Jaco as some Basschatters feel about Barefaced cabs.
20.
Not a big fan of Markbass amps or rather the LM series either, or their cabs for that matter. I've used the LMll a lot in a 102 combo and also have used them as supplied backline and whilst I like the combo at lower volume levels, I find the amp gets an unpleasing harshness when pushed.. which I invaribly have to do.
So, serious question, do you actually use Markbass (which you seem to be saying) or are you not a big fan (which you also seem to be saying)?
21. For all we know, your feet have fallen off ...
22.
My amp is a Markbass LMIII. For your info!
OK, so I've veering WAY off topic again, but I do wonder if there's a correlation between ... erm ... how shall I phrase this ... ah yes! ... the Barefaced NON-fanbois and using Markbass amps. I've played through a variety of BF cabs with very satisfactory (to my ears) results using heads by people like Eden, Orange and Matamp but I personally detest the uber-middy sound (to my ears) of a Markbass through a BF cab. Is it really as simple as that? People with Markbass amps don't like Barefaced cabs?
23.
I'm getting towards my first landmark age ...
Yup, 18's a big one, isn't it?
24. What's your favourite cab, Stevie?
25. I wonder what happens if you try to sell one without mentioning Muse ...
