1.
Headless would be even better. Oh, look: although I prefer parallel necks (which they do too). And they're composite so they keep the weight below 6kg.
Not that 6Kg is actually "light", you understand. As for myself, I found my double-neck disappeared quite quickly when I went on a diet ...
2.
That bit of heartwood running from the lower horn to the control cavity is an accident waiting to happen.
I thought that was epoxy!
3. I find the best way to get a great sound is to always play in exactly the same place in the same room using the same bass through the same rig at the same volume. As soon as I try playing in a different pub it all goes to sh*t.
4.
Not http://crimsonguitars.com/ then? Someone had better call Ben and tell him he's mis-spelt it!
Correct! NOT Crimson but Crinson. I used to own this: I can't remember his name now, and I never actually dealt with him (I bought the bass from Eubassix of this parish IIRC), but he was a Scots luthier of - allegedly - cantankerous disposition. He didn't do many basses, and his specialism was very convincing relicing. Were it not for the fact that I just can't get my ahead around relicing, I'd still own that bass. Twas a wonderful player and really looked the business.
5. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2012-Birdsong-Embrace-4String-Fretless-Bass-Mesquite-wTurquoise-4-of-8-38845-/322416506732 Lovely piece of carved wood? Check. Beautifully-sculpted oval hollow to receive pickup? Check? Rectangular lump of black plastic badly screwed in at a slight angle? Oh yes.
6. The thing about open mics / jam sessions is that the audience will comprise almost entirely musos waiting to play. In most cases that means that they'll be nursing a soda & lime, so even if the place is full there'll not be much to show for it from a landlord's POV. For an open mic to be viable, you'll probably need to attract local musos who might in due course become regulars at the pub on non-music nights. Whether you go open mic or bands, the key will anyway be the promotion. Posters, websites, gig listing, social media, you name it. And that never stops. Ever.
7.
Anyone have any experiences with Crimson?
Yup. And it's CriNson.
8.
... the white thing and the yellow thing and the little thing ...
You sir are a man I could do business with.
9. No, it's cause he's in Moray.
10. Anyway, the guy from Madness never used that bass,
11. Also check out work by Crinson and Bravewood. Harder to do business with than Jon Shuker, but making beautiful P-basses to order is more part of their DNA than I suspect it is for Jon. You weren't keen on my Mike Lull P5 were you?
12. There are no photos here that I can see, nor links to any. Incidentally, it will probably help if you spell Pedulla correctly.
13. That is a GREAT deal for someone. I'm trying to downsize at the moment, and I already have an SB320, and I don't live near Oxford, and I'm STILL tempted. http://youtu.be/vZic9ZHU_40
14. Another idea for a topic would be When your fiancé doesn't know you That could go off in some very interesting directions ...
15. That's a lovely piece of work, and the cracking of the nitrocellulose is simply lush.
16. But count your fingers afterwards ...
17. Mind you, it's a 4-string ...
18. Sorry to disagree, but that looks well over-priced to me. It's not that great an example, and the wear pattern on the pickguard doesn't convince me at all. YMMV
19. I've sort of stumbled into signing up (free, gratis, and for nothing) with Bandhub. Thought I'd look for guidance here, but I can't find a previous topic so I'm starting one. Is anyone else here a Bandhub member? Any thoughts as to usefulness / practicality? If the thinking is that people at their respective homes record something onto their computers, what is the SIMPLEST, MOST IDIOT-PROOF interface for doing this? You may have noticed a certain amount of emphasis in that last question. Before anyone points out the obvious, that it all depends on what I'm trying to achieve, I'm ... erm ... not trying to "achieve" anything. I've stumbled in here by accident and I'm looking for the lightswitch.
20. In all fairness, the confusing currency thing was hardly an English invention. During the 18th Century, when crowns, pounds and guineas were all still widely used in England, the French "improved" their own situation thusly:

Louis d'or (gold coin) = 24 livres, along with a half-Louis coin (the demi-louis d'or) and a two-Louis coin (the double louis d'or) (12 and 48 livres).
écu (silver coin) = 6 livres = 120 sols, along with  [sup]1[/sup]⁄[sub]2[/sub],  [sup]1[/sup]⁄[sub]4[/sub] and  [sup]1[/sup]⁄[sub]8[/sub] écu denominations (60, 30 and 15 sols)
copper coins of 1 and 2 sols: 1 sol = 12 deniers
6 and 3 deniers (the latter also called a liard) were also issued.
Confused? If you're not, then you weren't paying attention. Incidentally, a French livre was the thing most closely related to an English pound, although exchange rates moved up and down quite freely then too.
21. Chief interest for me would be that 8Kg weight ... that's a pretty sharp reduction on a ply bass.
22. IIRC, you tried my U-Bass at the Herts. Bassbash last year? And you just plug it through the PA ...
23.
Anyway. Back on topic. You may enjoy this one too Blue. https://www.youtube....h?v=eSDSand-6IY Gene Vincent on UK tour 1969. Touching, sometimes funy and other times quite sad documentary. The Teddy Boy thing was quite big until the late 70s I would say. Then there was a Rockabilly revival as it was fading out.
The rampant professionalism and extraordinary degree of organisation from 4:58 for the next eight minutes is simply breathtaking. What must the poor sod have made of the clowns he was working with?
24. You're more likely to find a buyer if you tell us where you are. Incidentally, I think it's highly unlikely that you'll experience "huge, ultra clear B-string response" from a 4-string P-bass.
