1. Listened to their recent live album and boy they are atrocious. EVH's playing is soooo bad ..DLR was the only redeeming feature ..I think he needs to go solo again and leave the rest to stew.
2. The taxman doesn't give a shittt..well known story in Northern Ireland of a famous singer who got caught by the taxman and was being done for £100,000+. Well he pulled out all these cheque receipts for what he paid the band over the years and the taxman said" why should we worry about them when your here in front of us, they are your problem not ours if you had've paid SOMETHING we would've let it go but you had to be greedy".
3.
Nah, the extra eight hours practice would be obvious by now in my slap ;-) Brian from Praxis emailed back and said pretty much what I expected, that something is completing the circuit and causing battery drain. He asked me where I bought the bass, I told him and I await his instruction. As an aside, does anybody know if swapping out the stock preamp for a Stinger would eliminate the problem? To the OP: I apologise for hijacking your thread somewhat. To the Moderators: Please feel free to move my posts from this thread to a new one if I have breached etiquette in any way.
No problem mate ...it's all battery/bass related.
4.
I recently bought a job lot of those Industrial ones although I am increasingly moving away from active basses. Again More recently still I popped into Maplins (does anyone else 'pop' these days?) and they had an offer on their own brand version AAs - which allegedly outperformed Duracell in a recent test of some sort. They are nice blue colour and came in a sturdy box, so that was good start.
I seen that test it was "the one show" I think I remember Ikeas batteries were best value for Xmas toys.
5. Can honestly say they could've easily been headliners.
6. Cheers lads... I knew basschat experience would be informative as usual. The miserable basstard in me is leaning towards rechargeable.
7. The beautiful and talented Jorja Chalmers.
8. http://youtu.be/xXlS1h12DJ8 Just a heads up. Saw Bryan Ferry in Belfast the other night and he was very good (Jorja Chalmers on sax is 10/10 💙) bass player was ok done the job used Jazz basses and Aguilar good sound. But the support act was fantastic , Judith Owen with a stellar band of A listers including Leland Sklar on bass gave a masterclass performance. Different level and well worth catching if they are going to be playing local to you.
9. Ok guys never got into Rush but read Neal Pearts autobiographical "Ghostrider" and was blown away. Any recommendations for dipping ones toe into the Rush catalogue?
10. Need two batteries for my Marcus Miller jazz and was wondering if any basschatters have any preferences regarding longevity and value for money. Any bargains out there ?
11.
Lot of people here play Sir Duke. I have nothing to add to that comment, just an observation. Although, I think I should learn it. The only SW bass parts I have learned thus far are I Was Made To Love Her and I Wish. Two absolutely stonking lines.
I was made to love her is my fav Stevie Wonder song and stonking bassline. I first heard it on Standing in the shadows of motown when Marcus Miller played it. Sir Duke is a great line for getting round the fretboard and checking out the neck of a bass.
12.
Love to go but too expensive.
Same here....also seen art garfunkel advertised recently "an intimate evening " £75 a ticket !!! How they can justify that is ridiculous .
13. Signed up for the one week trial and have to say the sound is great and superior to spotify and also better than qobuz. Still think £20 a month is too steep.
14.
so i had a newbie with 0 posts offer to but am item i have for sale along with several PM's from other people but he was the first. so i put them on hold for him & gave him payment details,3 1/2 hours after reading my reply he still hadn't replied to me to confirm he was buying or sent any payment so naturally i sold said item to the next person in the "queue" when i told the original no show newbie i received this reply "Just got your messages, thanks, it is always good to be called mate by somebody, thanks mate. At least I now know what "on hold" means. I'm glad I didn't gift you 25 quid. Cheers anyway, Pete x" perhaps if he'd bothered to reply he wouldn't be so upset. i have dealt with many BC members over the years without issue, all deals have been pleasant & gone smoothly, however it seems some newer members have a very poor attitude, maybe its a sign of the times.
Unbelievable aren't they. Had one guy buying a pedal off me "definitely wanted it" gave him my bank details and after no contact "I got one somewhere else" was my reply after querying the length of time for the payment.
15. Well it arrived yesterday and my fingers and thumb are RAW! What a bass...both pickups on Marcus growls and snaps at you...roll off the front one and Jaco funky sixteenths percolate!!! Big thanks to Dawsons ordered Tuesday arrived in Ireland Friday. Happy Bunny 👯
16. I have had the Markbass cmd 121p 12 inch combo for about 4 years now and its fantastic. When i pair it up with a markbass 15 inch ext cab it is ground shakingly good. Very musical amps.
17. Also it turns out Jaco had the first Hartke aluminium speaker cabinet built!!! LH: Jaco used the original prototype 810 cabinet until we made the first small run of 410’s. The 410’s were of course much easer for him to move around the New York club scene. Because we didn’t have many cabinets at that time we continued to use the 810 for our other artists. That first 810 cabinet built for Jaco has a lot of history. It went on several Miles Davis tours with Marcus Miller, several Miles Davis tours with Darryl Jones, and the Born in the USA Bruce Springsteen tour with Garry Tallent. It was taken off the road in the eighties, its the prized possession of Hartke Systems, and has not been played by anyone since Jaco passed away in 1987, and thus it shall remain.
18. An interview with Milkowski Sp you have checked out a number of instruments then, including headless ones such as the Steinberger? Yeah [Police bassist] Sting turned me on to the Steinberger. The first time I ever saw one was when I went to see the Police. I tell you, Sting's a beautiful cat. We had heard about each other and talked on the phone, but we had never hooked up. So when I went to see him, the first thing he said to me was, 'Hey,Jaco, come on back and check out my bass.' I like them. They're real good basses. I have one now, but I just haven't had enough time to even explore it. You see, one of the main reasons I use these same old basses is because I've worked so hard and so long on the road- forever- that to get another new instrument at this point, I really feel like I would have to learn how to play it from scratch. I mean, I know everything about these basses of mine, every bit of chicken grease and every drop of sweat that's ever been on them. These things are beat-up alright, but I hardly put any scars on them at all; the only ones are thumb marks. Other than that, I have not made a mark on them. Man, I used to do one-and-a-half flips off my asmps and land on them- looke like I was killing them. But I really never touched them. It was just an illusion- all entertainment. That's what I am, an entertainer.
19.
I believe Jaco owned one (a Steinberger).
Yeah he was sent an L2 but never paid for it so it was taken back.
20. I have the Squeir vintage modified Jazz and was wondering if the difference was that great.
21. Sting tells an interesting story of meeting Jaco backstage at a Police gig on the Synchronicity tour and Jaco played his Steinberger bass. Sting said "Jaco sounded fantastic on it and loved it ,wouldnt put it down "
22. Having GAS for one of these basses anybody recommend them. Good basses for the money?
